Chapter 78 The Surge City Magicians' Association
The continuous Dragonspine Mountains stretch for thousands of miles, almost completely blocking southward expansion from the entire northern border.
Serge City is an important northern lord city of the Kingdom of Augea, located on a vast plain on the south side of the mountains, and has been controlled by the Baron Grover family for generations.
The city was built entirely of gray-white granite blocks, and was surrounded by an endless wilderness. From a distance, it looked like a lurking giant beast.
The city wall, sixteen or seventeen meters high, soared into the clouds, and was covered with flags bearing the emblem of "red background and silver steel armor gauntlets," which fluttered in the wind.
On the battlements, guards with spears patrolled back and forth with steady steps and solemn expressions;
Beneath the city gate, a fully armed guard of a dozen or so people carefully checked the pedestrians and vehicles entering and leaving, maintaining perfect order.
The carriage carrying the four members of the "White Eagle" squad slowly converged towards the city gate, following the continuous flow of people.
The process of entering the city was very smooth. Henry, Mark and the others only needed to take out their adventurer's badges, and after the guards verified them, they were allowed to pass through.
Then, the four of them stepped down from the carriage and looked up at the bustling city.
The wide and clean stone-paved streets are lined with various shops on both sides. Street vendors display a dazzling array of trinkets and trinkets. The shouts of vendors, the laughter of pedestrians, and the patrols of guards create a lively atmosphere.
Brady stared blankly at the bustling metropolis before him, while the others wore various expressions.
Mark was also quite shocked by this, but having lived in a megacity for a period of time, he only briefly appreciated the unique medieval cityscape before losing interest and asking the question first.
"Hey guys! I'm planning to register as a mage apprentice at the Mage Guild right now. What are your plans?"
Upon hearing this, everyone snapped out of their daze.
A glimmer of hope appeared in Henry's eyes, and he picked up the conversation.
"I'm not in a hurry to go to Zhuobo Manor. I plan to visit some old friends first, and then stay for two days to spend time with my daughter."
"Unfortunately, she has an important assessment today and can't meet with everyone for the time being..."
"How about this, let's have dinner together at the Violet Tavern on Silverleaf Street at 7 pm. My daughter will be there too, and I'll introduce her to everyone."
The group already knew that Henry's daughter was studying in the city, so they were not surprised and nodded in agreement.
Then, Emily quietly began to talk about her schedule.
"I also need to rush to report to the parish in Sergei City. If you encounter any problems, you can find me at the Dawn Church in the West District. I will do my best to help."
In the end, only Brady remained, looking somewhat embarrassed.
He had no relatives or friends, and he came to Serki City without a clear purpose. Everyone in the team had their own plans, and now he was the only one left, which was quite awkward.
Fortunately, Henry smiled and came to the rescue.
"Brady, if you're bored, you can go and visit the Adventurers' Guild in town."
"Your Bronze-level adventurer status is recognized by the guilds in Sergei City."
"However, let me remind you, the monster groups around Sergei City have already been wiped out. The remaining tasks are either simple errands or challenging cultists. You should think it over carefully."
"Adventurers' Guild!"
Upon hearing those words, Brady's eyes lit up instantly, as if he had found his way home, and he shouted excitedly.
"Alright! I'll go test the mettle of these adventurers now."
With everyone else in place, Henry made the final decision.
"Then everyone, meet at the Violet Tavern tonight on time!"
"good!"
"Goodbye!"
The group said their goodbyes and then went their separate ways.
Mark adjusted his heavy travel backpack and then asked for directions along the way, walking and stopping, wandering around until he finally arrived at a complex of buildings—the Magicians' Association.
From a distance, several imposing four- or five-story buildings are linked together, forming a complex that looks like a modern university.
The entrance is a huge white stone archway surrounded by an exquisite bronze fence. On each side stand three knights in bright white patterned armor, their postures upright, holding long swords, like majestic sculptures.
Mark saw groups of young people in colorful robes entering and leaving the gate, then looked down at himself—wearing sturdy studded leather armor, carrying a bulging backpack, and exuding the air of a country bumpkin who had just arrived in the city.
Okay, he really did just come to the city from the countryside.
Mark was amused by his own words. Then, with a surge of confidence, he straightened his back and strode towards the association's gate, making no attempt to hide his so-called "rustic" manner.
The two guards at the front of the gate had already noticed this out-of-place young man. They immediately stepped forward, stopped him, and asked him sternly.
"Please stop! Show me your identification!"
Mark calmly took off the adventurer's badge from his neck and handed it over.
"I am an adventurer from Pinewood Town. This is my first time at the Mage Guild. I am here to register as a mage apprentice."
The guard took the bronze plaque, examined it carefully, and then looked up at Mark—white hair, blue eyes, outstanding appearance, and composed demeanor. Although he presented an adventurer's certificate, he looked more like a noble young master experiencing life.
The two guards exchanged a glance, and their attitude suddenly became a little more respectful.
"According to association regulations, we need to test whether you possess magical energy. Please cooperate!"
Mark nodded.
Immediately, the guard took out a thumb-sized transparent crystal from his waist pocket. Just as he approached Mark, the transparent crystal suddenly emitted a faint, ethereal blue light.
"You've passed."
The guard looked somewhat surprised, but quickly put away the crystal, his tone returning to seriousness, and he thoughtfully pointed Mark in the right direction.
"Passing through the front garden and fountain, you'll enter the main building directly opposite, which is the general affairs hall. The staff there will tell you what to do."
Mark was also a little surprised, thinking there might be some twists and turns. Was it because he was handsome? But regardless, he still politely thanked the guard.
"Thank you!"
The guard simply nodded slightly, then turned and returned to his post, continuing to stand guard.
Mark stepped through the gates of the Wizarding Guild, following the guards' directions through a stone path, through a verdant garden, and past a small fountain with babbling brooks.
Along the way, Mark also saw scholars in colorful robes gathered together, either discussing knowledge in hushed tones or engaging in heated debates.
Mark thought to himself that the Mage Guild probably did more than just manage spellcasters; it might have other city functions as well.
Mark then strolled along until he finally arrived at the white stone relief building in front of him.
Upon entering, one is greeted by a dazzling golden "mini sun" hanging from the dome, surrounded by countless streaks of light, resembling the structure of a celestial body, yet also like a giant ball of yarn.
In the center of the lobby was a semi-circular service counter, behind which sat several young women in uniform.
The scene before me resembles a modern public service venue, only with a unique style imbued with fantasy and magic.
