Delta: Who are you saying has suffered a loss of strength?

Chapter 349 The prison cell is really fat

The Bald Eagles' two squads, A and B, were running like madmen down the corridor.

Until an iron gate separating the area appeared in front of them, the group squeezed through the gate to buy themselves a little time to catch their breath.

The iron gate slammed shut with a dull thud.

The six men stopped behind the door, panting heavily, their chests heaving, sweat dripping from the edges of their helmets onto the ground.

Team B's captain glanced towards the iron gate, then asked, "So they've caught up?"

"It seems they haven't caught up. That guy is probably the explosive type; he won't last long," one of the team members replied.

"Shall we keep running?" Captain B's breathing hadn't completely calmed down. He wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand and glanced around the surrounding rooms.

Captain A paused for a moment, then observed the surrounding environment.

Behind the iron gate was a horizontal passageway, with neat rows of cells on both sides.

The passageway extends to the left and right. Judging from the direction they came from, they are already some distance from the core area.

"Is this the prison area now?"

"It should be a prison cell," Captain B confirmed from the side, "but we're on the other side, far from the administrative district."

Captain A nodded. "Since that big guy didn't chase after us, why don't we search the cells first? Aren't we still on a cell search mission?"

"What's there to search in the cells..." Captain B muttered under his breath, his tone dismissive. "What valuable things could those prisoners possibly have? We'd only find junk if we searched any further."

Captain A himself wasn't quite sure about this issue; he was just following the instructions in the mission briefing, which stated, "If conditions permit, search the prison cell area and look for any unusual activity."

As for what constitutes an abnormal situation or what specific things to pay attention to, not a single word was added above.

He pondered for a moment, thinking that since there was no immediate danger of pursuit and he couldn't go to the core area for the time being, it wouldn't hurt to search the prison cells while he was at it.

Otherwise, if I really do nothing, I'll feel a little guilty.

"Search it out," he said. "The message from above is that there might be something strange in this area, and we should just keep an eye out for it. They won't give us any specific details."

"Let's search around. If we find anything, we'll keep an eye out for it. If we don't find anything, it won't cause any problems."

The group exchanged glances, but no one explicitly voiced any objection.

The interior space of the cell area was much more spacious than the narrow corridor outside. The central corridor was very wide, with a ceiling height of about three or four stories.

The cell doors on the first floor were open, while the corridors on the second and third floors were surrounded by iron railings, through which one could see the equally open iron doors of the cells on the upper floors.

This three-dimensional structure instantly elevates the complexity of the space, and the vertical extension of the line of sight makes the originally compact prison environment more layered.

"The terrain here is complicated. Don't get separated. Advance in close formation to search!" Captain A ordered in a low voice.

Then, teams A and B lined up and slowly advanced down the corridor on the first floor of the prison.

The six men lined up in two rows, keeping a distance of no more than two steps between them, and slowly made their way down the corridor on the first floor of the cell.

The iron bars on the cell next door swayed slightly with the airflow as the group passed by, the hinges making a soft creaking sound that was particularly clear in the quiet cell.

Strangely, all the cells within sight of several people were empty; there wasn't a single person inside.

"Nobody's here..."

Where did everyone go?

"Have all the prisoners been released? They must have gone out to fight?" Captain B guessed.

"Have all the prisoners been released?" Captain A muttered, his brow furrowed as he looked at the empty cells.

He recalled the funds that the Bald Eagle Society had once distributed, and how, after the prisoners were released, the prison guards and prisoners, not belonging to the same faction, would engage in firefights throughout the prison.

If that's the case, why is the prison so quiet today?

Just as Captain A was rubbing his chin, recalling the information he had previously seen, he suddenly heard someone exclaim, "What's that?"

Thinking they had encountered an enemy, everyone immediately picked up their weapons and became alert.

As one of the team members passed by a cell, he suddenly stopped and pointed to the bed inside.

Following the direction of the finger, everyone looked over and, in the dim light, could see a golden object next to the pillow on the bed, which stood out conspicuously in the drab prison environment.

"Asara gold coins!" Another person leaned over for a look, their voice unconsciously rising a half-octave. "A gold item? This thing's just sitting there?"

A single gold coin, though small, is worth at least fifty or sixty thousand, equivalent to several months' wages for those present.

The others crowded around and peered into the cell. Such a treasure was displayed so openly, it was as if they had found it for free.

The team member who found the gold coin stared wide-eyed, disregarding everything else, and broke away from the line, squeezing sideways into the cell to retrieve the coin.

He held the gold coin in his hand and felt its weight; it was definitely real.

He carefully stuffed the gold coins into his pocket, a simple action that made the other team members, including the two captains, drool with envy.

This discovery was like flipping a switch.

The pace of the advance of the group changed noticeably. The six people who had been maintaining their formation and moving slowly forward just moments before were now unconsciously moving closer to the cell doors on both sides.

Their eyes frequently darted to scan the beds, corners, and desks inside the cells.

It has to be said that the prison cell area is indeed lucrative.

Gold coins, medals, gold cups, gold lighters—in just a short while, the six men had found all sorts of small gold items in these cells.

With each item found, the group became more lively, with some already calculating how much money they would get from this trip.

"Don't scatter! Stay alert!" Captain A raised his voice and shouted, but they weren't a professional team after all, and he, as the squad leader, didn't have much authority.

Tempted by the prospect of profit, no one listened to him; everyone was busy looting supplies.

Later, even Captain A himself couldn't resist peeking through the iron bars into the cells next door.

The tension and fear that had been suffocating just moments before were somewhat lessened by the sight of the supplies that had been found for free.

"Damn it, I saw it first, let go of me!" A dispute suddenly broke out in the middle of the passage.

Two members of Team B are each holding onto the same end of an object on opposite sides of the same wooden plank bed, neither willing to let go.

No one stepped forward to break up the fight; instead, some people took the opportunity to slip into the cell next door that hadn't been searched yet.
