Detective Conan: The Superpowered Beings of the Detective Conan World

Chapter 53 The Diplomat Murder Case: Ai Haibara's Judgment, Heiji Hattori's Competitive Sp

"The deceased, Tsujimura Kono, was a member of parliament. He was found dead in his study, and his wife, Tsujimura Kimie, and you all found him, right?"

Inspector Megure glanced at his two old acquaintances, Kogoro Mouri and Hikaru Hoshino, somewhat speechless, his expression becoming rather subtle.

"Inspector Megure, I didn't expect to see you again."

Kogoro Mouri gave an awkward laugh and spoke somewhat embarrassedly.

During this period, Kogoro Mouri felt that he was having bad luck. He often encountered various cases and met with Inspector Megure when he was commissioning work. Although the cases were eventually resolved satisfactorily, the process was usually quite tortuous.

Inspector Megure rolled his eyes at Kogoro Mouri, then his gaze fell on Hikaru Hoshino.

"Hey Hoshino, you're here too."

Inspector Megure stepped forward, his attitude towards Hoshino Hikaru much warmer than that towards Kogoro Mouri.

During this period, Inspector Megure handled several murder cases, encountering Kogoro Mouri and Hikaru Hoshino at the crime scenes, and solving the cases with their help.

However, Kogoro Mouri always points out one culprit first, then realizes it's wrong, points out another, and still it's wrong, until finally he gets the last one right, which leaves him somewhat bewildered.

In comparison, Hoshino is more reliable; at least his reasoning isn't as unpredictable as Mori's, which is like Schrödinger's.

Kogoro Mouri's deductions are mostly based on Ran calling Conan, with Conan directing the investigation and finding of evidence. However, Ran is not comfortable directly taking the lead in the deductions, so she subtly provides hints and clues to Kogoro Mouri.

With the hints, Kogoro Mouri quickly finds the real culprit and produces evidence, appearing to outsiders as a chaotic detective, which makes Inspector Megure both love and hate him.

"So, Mori-kun, Hoshino-kun, what are your thoughts?"

While waiting for the forensic team to examine the scene, Inspector Megure began to ask questions.

"We can't confirm whether it was suicide yet."

Kogoro Mouri scratched the back of his head and spoke somewhat uncertainly.

"How is this possible? This is clearly murder, poisoning!"

Hattori Heiji frowned instantly, interrupting Mouri Kogoro directly, his tone somewhat displeased.

"Huh? Who are you?"

Inspector Megure then looked at the dark-skinned Hattori Heiji, a thoughtful expression on his face.

"I'm Heiji Hattori, a high school detective from Kansai!"

A sharp glint flashed in Hattori Heiji's eyes as he spoke calmly.

"Oh, Hattori Heiji, I remember now, you are the son of Hattori Heizo, the Osaka Police Chief."

Inspector Megure gave a look of sudden realization, then his expression became somewhat subtle.

"The deceased had needle marks behind his ears, and his lips were bluish-black, clearly indicating poisoning. His body temperature was still high, suggesting he died within thirty minutes. It's obvious he was killed shortly before we arrived, between 2:30 and 3:00 PM. And the killer is most likely one of the people in this villa!"

A sharp glint flashed in Hattori Heiji's eyes as he spoke confidently, then looked at the bewildered Officer Takagi:

"Please call all the people in this household here and ask them for their alibis."

"Oh, okay... um?"

Takagi answered instinctively, then realized something was wrong and looked at Inspector Megure somewhat stiffly.

"Do as he says."

Inspector Megure's lips twitched, but considering Hattori Heiji's status, he waved his hand, signaling Takagi to leave, and then pulled Hoshino Hikaru aside.

"Hey, Hoshino, we Tokyo detectives can't let Osaka detectives steal our thunder!"

"I will do my best, Inspector Megure."

Hoshino Hikaru glanced at Hattori Heiji, who was taking over the command of the police officers, and couldn't help but twitch his lips before scanning the entire room.

Soon, everyone in the room was gathered at the scene: the butler, Fumio Koike; his wife, Kimie Tsujimura; his eldest son, Takayoshi Tsujimura, and his girlfriend, Sachiko Katsuragi; and the elderly man, Toshimitsu Tsujimura.

"Madam, the door was locked when you arrived, wasn't it? How many keys do you have for the room?"

Hattori Heiji gathered his thoughts and looked directly at Tsujimura Kimie before speaking.

"Well, there are two keys. One is in my hand, and the other is usually in my husband's pants pocket."

As she spoke, Kimie Tsujimura took out her keys while looking at the corpse of her husband, Kenji Tsujimura.

"Clatter!"

As forensic investigators reached into Tsujimura Kou's trouser pocket, a folded key fell out from a deep pocket.

"Huh? How is that possible!"

Hattori Heiji's expression changed slightly, and his eyes became more serious.

"What, what's going on?"

Kogoro Mouri was also somewhat bewildered by what he saw.

"There are two keys to this room. One was in the victim's pocket, and the other was with the wife. The door was locked when we arrived, and the wife opened it with the key. In other words, this is a locked-room murder!"

Hattori Heiji's tone became much more subtle, many possibilities flashed through his mind, and then a glint of light flashed in his eyes as he looked in the direction of Hoshino Hikaru.

"I already have an idea, Hoshino Hikaru. It seems I'll take the lead in this deduction."

Hattori Heiji gave Hoshino Hikaru a look and left the room, seemingly looking for something important.

Meanwhile, at the Mouri Detective Agency, Professor Agasa and Ran stood anxiously outside the bedroom door, while Ai Haibara was constantly testing her body with some instruments.

"Based on the current situation, it seems that the severe cold combined with a certain component of the baijiu (Chinese liquor) reacted with APTX-4869, temporarily suppressing the drug's effectiveness. However, it should recover soon."

Ai Haibara put down her stethoscope and spoke in a calm tone.

"So, this is only temporary?"

Shinichi Kudo spoke with some disappointment, thinking he could completely turn back into his original form.

"Stop dreaming. APTX-4869 was developed with a lot of funding from the organization. How could it be cracked so easily?"

Ai Haibara rolled her eyes at Shinichi Kudo and slowly walked out of the bedroom.

"Hey, Haibara, could this batch of baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor) be helpful in researching the antidote?"

Shinichi Kudo coughed and spoke with some anticipation.

"We might receive some assistance, but without complete information on the drug, it's impossible to create a real antidote."

Ai Haibara replied without pausing, her tone unchanged, directly throwing cold water on Shinichi Kudo.

"Shinichi, don't be too disappointed. This is a great start. We will definitely defeat the organization and help you turn back."

Ran stepped forward, wiped the sweat from Shinichi Kudo's brow, and spoke gently.

"I was too hasty."

Shinichi Kudo took a deep breath, clearing his mind, and spoke calmly:

"Contact Hoshino, tell him the situation, reassure him, and ask about the situation at the scene."
