Chapter 60 Dream Clan

"There are many border guard duties, some of which are extremely remote but not dangerous. Others involve constant warfare, and I would not recommend you go to most of them."

"There are also some strange and unusual abilities that are the products of ancient wizards' research. I don't recommend you choose those races either."

Lena helps Russell choose a suitable posting.

"Didn't they sign a soul contract? Why are they still fighting against alien races?" Russell asked.

"The Soul Contract only restricts fourth-tier kings from taking action and from initiating large-scale wars."

"Small-scale battles have never ceased over locations that yield rare resources and various other interests."

"Those who make moves are usually first or second-tier wizards and aliens; even third-tier wizards rarely make moves, and they all restrain each other."

Lena explained.

Russell nodded. Based on Lena's selection, she marked several locations that were not so remote, or where the battles with the alien races were not too intense, or where there was still money to be made.

"The elves, in ancient times, competed with wizards for the position of continental overlord, but eventually declined. In this era, everyone is about the same, the strongest being is only at the fourth rank, and there is no real enmity between them."

"They are a rare race on the continent that has established diplomatic relations with wizards. There is no war between them. The struggle for some resource points is decided every ten years through 'sparring'."

"It's a job that's safe and you can make a lot of money, but you can't get it without connections."

Russell raised an eyebrow slightly. It seemed that he belonged to the type with connections.

"The Dream Clan, a kind of spiritual life form, can reproduce through 'spiritual communion' in each other's dreams... To be honest, I really admire the wisdom and creativity of the ancient wizards."

Lena couldn't help but make a comment halfway through her introduction before continuing:

"However, although the Dream Clan are spiritual life forms, their spiritual power is not particularly strong, only slightly higher than that of bloodline wizards and elemental body refiners."

"Moreover, with just a little research into the soul and some methods at the soul level, one can easily deal with the Dream Clan."

"The Dream Clan's methods are particularly effective against races with weaker spiritual power than their own. However, once their spiritual power surpasses theirs and they are proficient in the soul, then that race becomes no threat at all."

"The Nightmare Clan is similar to the Dream Clan, except that one has pleasant dreams and the other has nightmares. They are two different kinds of dreams that were studied by an ancient wizard."

"They are all failures, but they are also a powerful race with fourth-tier kings."

Russell listened attentively, nodding occasionally.

Nowadays, almost all the alien races on the continent that are of alchemical origin have defects.

A race without flaws will not be trapped at the fourth tier like wizards who have lost their lineage.

Those races without defects also went on expeditions with the ancient wizards and left this world.

None were returned.

"Dragons are said to be a race from outside the wizarding world, whose purpose in coming to the wizarding world is to plunder and conquer."

"In the end, the dragon god was destroyed. In addition, they were an alien race, unwelcome in the world, and were constantly suppressed, even having difficulty reproducing."

"Now, the dragon race only has two dragon kings and dozens of dragons ranging from first to third rank, which pose little threat to wizards."

Lena recommends quite a few racial borders. If Russell wants to acquire bloodlines, the Elf and Dragon races are both excellent choices.

Their racial potential is capable of reaching the level of gods.

It is far beyond what the royal bloodline of the Sea Clan can compare to.

However, Russell didn't want to challenge high-difficulty "dungeons" right away; it would be better to start with the easier Dream Clan and Nightmare Clan.

In any case, the bloodline of the Sea King is sufficient up to the third rank; it only becomes difficult when breaking through to the fourth rank.

It's better to first gain practical experience against races that are easier to deal with, and farm some affix dust.

In particular, the Dream Clan and Nightmare Clan have been able to fight against the wizards who restrain them for so many years because of their numbers.

The Dream Clan and the Nightmare Clan are arguably the most numerous races at the second and third tiers, but unfortunately, they are severely restrained by wizards.

It happens frequently that a Tier 1 unit kills a Tier 2 unit, and a Tier 2 unit kills a Tier 3 unit.

Russell even wanted to test whether he could kill a third-tier enemy while only being a first-tier enemy!

"Lady Lena, I've made up my mind. I'll take on the Dream Clan's garrison mission," Russell said with a smile.

"While the Dream Clan is a good choice, the Elf Clan is clearly the best option. Lord Russell, would you like to reconsider?" Lena asked.

"No need, I'm more interested in the Dream Clan, so I'll choose this one," Russell said, shaking his head.

"Okay, as for the term of office, there are five ranges: five years, ten years, fifty years, one hundred years, and five hundred years."

"The amount of contribution received varies for each interval, but it is distributed at least once every five years, and the amount of contribution distributed will increase over time."

"If I were to stay here for five hundred years, I can't even imagine what a tremendous contribution that would be," Lena remarked.

Russell listened with a smile, wondering if his status as Shilin's only disciple would allow him to inherit the contributions accumulated by Shilin during his five-hundred-year-long mission.

It's probably hopeless.

This contribution has likely vanished with Schilling's death.

"Then let's give it five years. After five years, I estimate I'll need to return to Dawn City and advance to the Arcane Wizard level."

Russell thought for a moment and then said.

Five years is indeed a very long time for someone who is not yet eighteen.

However, considering his long lifespan of thousands of years, it was only a negligible short period of time.

"Five years? Then I congratulate Lord Russell in advance on successfully becoming an arcane wizard in five years," Lena said with a smile.

A bloodline wizard who already possesses a formal wizard-level soul, provided that the bloodline does not affect the purity of their spiritual power, but rather helps them.

Becoming an arcane wizard is only a matter of time.

Therefore, Lena sincerely offered her blessings.

In particular, the day Russell becomes an arcane wizard will likely be the day Lord Andre takes him as his disciple!

Being on good terms with Russell has only benefits and no drawbacks.

"Then thank you for your blessing, Lady Lena."

Russell instinctively picked up his teacup, took a sip, and then calmly placed it back on the table without moving it again.

His face also revealed a genuine exclamation of praise: "Excellent tea."

Soon, Lena took on the mission to guard the Dream Clan and handed it over to Russell.

"In five days, an airship carrying a large number of wizard apprentices will be heading to the Dream Clan region. I'll trouble you to wait a few more days, Lord Russell." Lena glanced at the airship schedule again.

"Thank you for your trouble, Lady Lena. It's nothing," Russell said politely.

The two chatted for a long time, and as Lena was about to overcome her fear of Evelyn and get closer to Russell, the latter politely took his leave.

Lena pouted regretfully and sighed.
