I was a general in South America

Chapter 58 Exposing the Traitor

"Lucas, the temporary troops are all out there as you instructed."

Moreno entered the tent, walked to Lucas's side, and whispered something.

"I'm sorry, I didn't find Viana beforehand. The two children are still at the Cato branch. What should we do?"

Moreno could not forget the scene of the woman lying naked and covered in wounds on the cold ground.

The failure of the mission, coupled with the feeling of having let Lucas down his trust, caused him to feel extremely guilty.

"Herrera will handle the children's affairs." Lucas pondered for a moment before stating the arrangements for the children, as the military was not a charity and had nowhere to house two children.

Herrera has connections in Manizales and is looking to find a responsible foster family for the two little ones.

Lucas felt sorry for Viana's death... but she wouldn't be the first, nor the last, to walk this path.

Words of comfort are useless; no matter how fast he grows, Moreno is still just a young man in his early twenties.

Only by getting used to death can we be unafraid of it!

"Bring in those who participated in the operation in order. Someone needs to be held responsible for the lives lost."

Ronan Einar's location has been confirmed, and the Second Rapid Reaction Force has been temporarily brought under his command. Before the big show begins, it's time to find the culprits within the team.

The other party was able to pinpoint the exact time he would arrive at the Cato branch, and always escape before Moreno could arrive to provide assistance.

All signs were enough to confirm that there was a problem with the temporary force.

Upon hearing this, Moreno's eyes flashed with a fierce light... If it weren't for the traitor, there might not have been time to rescue the person.

Soon, he led the soldiers into the tent one by one in order, where Lucas spoke with them personally.

Do you know Ronan Einar?

"During the operation, did anyone in your team do anything suspicious?"

As each soldier emerged, silent and solemn, the soldiers waiting outside began to show varying degrees of tension, but they all knew that something must have happened.

Lucas's question wasn't very helpful. Although the loyalty aura didn't show specific values, like the killing intent perception, it could distinguish the strength of the person in front of him.

If we use white, green, orange, and red to describe it, then Moreno's intensity is a deep, almost purplish red.

The soldiers who came in for a talk were generally in the green stage... after all, they hadn't worked together for long and weren't as affected as the regular troops.

With the help of a talented assistant, and with Moreno standing beside him with a stern face to intimidate them, any temporary soldier who hadn't received professional counter-interrogation training would definitely experience emotional fluctuations if he had something to hide.

"What's your name?"

"Sir, my name is Marlowe...Auguste Marlowe."

Lucas looked at the somewhat flustered soldiers in front of him. The aura feedback intensity hadn't reached the green level. Suddenly, he slammed his hand on the table: "Do you know what you've done?"

"Second Lieutenant..."

The soldier named Marlowe shuddered at the outburst from Lucas, and his face immediately fell.

"I don't know what I did wrong. I have always followed the rules of the military."

"Let me give you a hint, Ronan Einar...!"

Upon hearing the name, Marlowe's eyes visibly widened in panic, and he quickly explained, "Lieutenant, I don't understand what you're talking about."

His mental fortitude is alright...

Unfortunately, this is not a statement being taken.

"During the operation, one of your teammates reported you for suspicious activity. You must have heard about Alex killing Lieutenant Javier... Ronan Ennar can't escape now. Are you planning to go to the Ministry of the Interior?"

Lucas's words grew increasingly harsh, then suddenly his tone shifted...

"Marlowe, you haven't been in the rapid reaction force for long, have you? I won't tell you these things without absolute evidence. Tell me what happened... and I might still be able to help you. You only have one chance."

When you were in school, teachers loved to use this trick to fool you.

When you can't take the pressure and speak out, those who deserve a demerit will be given a demerit, and those who deserve to be fired will be fired!

The tent fell silent, save for the sound of swallowing.

Lucas didn't press further, but instead stared at Marlowe, who was becoming increasingly uncomfortable.

Marlowe avoided eye contact, clenched his hands tightly together, moved his lips as if he wanted to say something, and then lowered his head again.

"Think of your family, think of your children. Don't you believe what Lieutenant Lucas says?"

Moreno, standing beside him, yelled at him, and it was these words that broke down Marlowe's last line of defense. He suddenly collapsed and knelt down in front of Lucas, pleading.

"Lieutenant, Ronan kidnapped my mother. He threatened me to provide him with information. I don't know what they want to do, and I wasn't involved... I was really forced into it."

She then recounted the entire process with tears streaming down her face.

Lucas won't criticize it; this kind of thing is all too common in Colombia.

Marlowe's right and wrong are left to God to judge, and Lucas's job is simply to send him to meet God.

"Lieutenant... Lieutenant, you promised to give me a chance...!" Seeing Lucas about to get up and leave, Marlowe quickly moved to his knees and kowtowed repeatedly, "Lieutenant... I really know I was wrong...!"

He didn't just know he was wrong... he knew he was going to die.

If Marlowe had reported Ronan's threats immediately, he could have done everything in his power to help Marlowe rescue his family, but Marlowe chose to become the mole.

Adults must learn to take responsibility for their actions.

"Take him away."

Upon hearing Lucas's words, Moreno pried Marlow's hands off and dragged him out of the tent...

The commotion was too loud to cover up, and the soldiers outside the door knew exactly what had happened when they saw Marlowe being dragged out.

They were all filled with indignation; if Moreno were still here, they would probably all have surrounded him demanding justice.

In any country, desertion on the battlefield is considered treason, let alone leaking information about one's unit to the enemy...

Those who can tolerate this behavior can only say that it's time for you to sit on the Leshan Giant Buddha.

Bang.....

I don't know how much time passed, but a gunshot rang out outside the tent.

After a while, Moreno came in again. His face showed neither the joy of finding the traitor nor the relief of avenging Viana, but his eyes were much more resolute than usual.

People learn and grow through each experience.

"Lucas, what's our next move? Bryce's team has assembled and is ready to coordinate the operation at any time."

With the internal issues resolved, the next step is undoubtedly to capture Ronan Einar.

Seeing Moreno's anxious expression, Lucas knew his childhood friend was still holding a grudge about the failed operation last time, so he smiled and comforted him, "Don't worry, Ronan Einar can't escape. Send someone to the target location to check and prevent him from getting away."

"Aren't we going to make the arrest today...?"

Lucas shook his index finger: "Wait a little longer, the gust of wind is coming soon...!"
