Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 106 Mushroom Spores [3k]
"What did you find?" Charles asked as they walked.
"We haven't gone in yet," Red Eyes followed closely beside him.
Nine Fingers walked towards us: "Leader, there's a passage that doesn't look like it's been burned."
"Okay, let's go take a look first." Charles nodded. "The Mother Tree said there's no evil feeling here, so we can go down and check it out. If there's any danger, run immediately."
Soon, Charles arrived at the entrance to the passage, which went downwards and looked quite deep.
"One squad will follow, the rest of you stay up here," Charles instructed before leading his men down the passage.
"Flap, flap," the passageway was filled with the sounds of burning torches and footsteps.
"What do you think of the Tree Man Fruit Jerky you made at noon?" Xia Er asked Nine Fingers as they walked.
"It's alright," Nine Fingers nodded and said.
"What if it were done by someone with white hair?"
"Uh," Nine Fingers paused, almost bumping into the goblin behind him, "maybe not."
Now, Bai Mao practices cooking every day. After cooking a pot, she often asks people to taste it. She tried Red Eyes, but this brute could only nod and shake his head and couldn't describe the taste or feeling. She tried One-Eyed, but all she heard was him saying "okay, okay, really okay." After trying Buck Teeth a few times, Bai Mao got annoyed and didn't want to listen to him recite poetry anymore. As for Broken Tooth? She often couldn't find Broken Tooth.
Finally, Nine Fingers became the best candidate. He could speak normally, had a certain level of intelligence, and could find people. Thus, Nine Fingers became the new culinary master of the tribe.
However, several times when Xia Er passed by, he saw Nine Fingers lying on the underground river platform, and he didn't know what he was doing.
After hearing Nine Fingers' reply, Charles laughed a few times and then stopped talking about it.
The passage wasn't very long; it only took about twenty steps to reach the top. Once outside, Xia Er saw a huge stone chamber in front of him. The chamber was very tall, about 5 meters, and the ceiling was covered with many blue glowing mushrooms.
The stone chamber cannot be seen at a glance because it is covered with a giant white mushroom.
This mushroom is like a small tree, with a cap about 4 meters in diameter. Each cap has a small black ball hanging underneath, making it look like a soccer ball.
"They really are mushrooms," Charles remarked. "But why did the druids seal them up?"
He walked to the mushroom stem, looked up at the cap above, and said, "This thing might be dangerous; it might even explode."
"Even the manufacturer is afraid of this. Just to be on the safe side, let's not linger here," Charles patted the thick mushroom stem and decided to seal the place up again.
Unexpectedly, when he patted the mushroom stem a few times, the white mushroom began to shake, and then several black balls under the cap fell down.
Previously, Charles had been looking up at the umbrella canopy. When he noticed the black ball falling, he immediately jumped to the side, fearing that the ball would hit him and cause something bad to happen.
With a "plop," the black ball crashed to the ground, splashing up a pool of black water that looked like ink. At the same time, Charles saw a cloud of black mist rise from the black water, spread out, and then fade and disappear.
"What is this?" He quickly stepped back and prepared to cover his mouth and nose, but it was too late; a strong stench filled his nostrils.
The stench was so strong that when Charles recalled the food that White Hair used to cook, he felt that this smell was a hundred times stronger than that pot of rice.
At this moment, not only him, but all the goblins around smelled this odor. Almost all of them lay on the ground, gagging and retching, and some goblins were even vomiting.
"Get out of here quickly!" Charles hurriedly held his breath, covered his mouth and nose, and tried to escape as quickly as possible, but the intense disgust made it impossible for him to concentrate, and he even felt dizzy from the stench.
"What kind of mushroom is this?" He could only crawl faster. The stench made his temples throb. Moreover, he felt that this thing was not a magical attack. The magic resistance given by [Blessing of the God of Earth and Life] did not seem to have any effect. It was just a simple physical discomfort.
A group of goblins stumbled and rushed quickly toward the passage. During this time, Charles unexpectedly saw a piece of paper on the ground, grabbed it, and then ran out of the passage.
"Seal it up, seal this place up," Charles said irritably. "What on earth is this thing?"
"I think the things White Hair makes taste pretty good too," Nine Fingers said out of the blue.
Charles took several deep breaths, but the stench still lingered in his nostrils. He took out the piece of paper he had just found and opened it.
"I, Visans, will absolutely not admit that I invented this thing. It is so evil, it is more unacceptable than a latrine in the slums, and even the devil's tone is better than it..."
"This part is crossed out." Charles saw that the middle part was covered in ink and the content was completely illegible, which showed the writer's state of mind at the time.
"Damn it, I can't handle this mess. Just touching the mushroom stem causes foul-smelling sporangia to fall off. I give up. I'll seal this up for now and deal with it later when the experiment is successful. No matter when or where, ( ) will always be your most loyal reading companion."
"Then why didn't you deal with it in the end? Why didn't you put up a notice at the door?" Xia Er slammed the paper to the ground. He figured the other party probably didn't want the zombies to smell and make the whole mushroom cultivation room stink, so they just left it there.
"Burn them, burn them!" Red Eyes gritted his teeth and walked to Charles's side with a torch in hand. Charles noticed that the guy had been splashed with black water at some point, and the smell was indescribable.
"You, go wash up first." Charles quickly kicked Chi Mu away.
He walked to the entrance of the passage and looked down; the smell had not yet spread up.
"No need to burn it, just seal it up." Charles turned to instruct his men. They didn't know what use the druid's creation would be in the future, so they decided to keep it for now.
Before long, a large group of goblins marched through the treants' territory, and the scent emanating from them even made the treants, who had been sleeping, quickly move a few steps away.
Charles was the fastest among them, fearing that he, as the inheritor of the ancient will, would leave a bad impression on the Mother Tree.
Red-Eyes was the second fastest goblin, following behind the leader, constantly muttering, "Dig him out and chop him into pieces."
Sharl knew that Red Eyes was cursing the druid. His equipment was stained with black water, and he didn't know how long it would take to wash it clean. Red Eyes used to like this set of equipment.
Soon the goblins arrived at the banks of the Darren River, and Shire even saw panicked birds along the way.
…………
After a while, the goblins finally climbed ashore from the river. Their equipment had been washed and cleaned, and they were now sitting under the trees on the bank, warming themselves by the fire and waiting for the water to dry.
"We've arrived here. Let's head to the place marked on the map later," Xia Er said, warming himself by the fire and planning his next move.
"Chief, the equipment is dry." Nine Fingers walked over.
"Alright." Charles stood up, patted his backside, and instructed his men to put on their clothes and equipment.
Soon, the goblins lined up and headed straight for their destination.
"Looks like this is it." He looked around the clearing in the woods. "Let's keep looking."
"Chief, there are square stones!" a goblin cried.
Charles immediately went over and indeed found the stone bricks. He immediately ordered his men to start digging.
Gradually, a downward passage appeared, just like the basement of the watchtower before.
However, when they dug to the bottom, a lot of mud and water gushed out.
"Is it flooded downstairs?" he said, frowning. He then realized that since the basement was near the Dallen River, it was very likely flooded.
"This is a bit troublesome." He didn't stop, but continued to have his men dig until the stone door appeared before them.
Red Eyes followed Xia Er's instructions to push open the stone door, and soon a stream of muddy water gushed out. When the water surface calmed down, he found that the water only reached his upper thighs.
"Go catch some prey first," Charles ordered.
Several grouse were quickly brought back, and he immediately ordered someone to slit their throats and splatter the blood on the ground around them.
After waiting for nearly 10 minutes, there was still no movement from inside the stone chamber.
"It should still be safe inside the stone chamber." He called over a few goblins, lit torches, and entered the stone chamber.
The walls of this stone chamber are not large, only about 20 square meters. There are many collapsed areas inside, and the walls are covered with moss.
Charles held up the torch and circled the wall tentatively. "No, it's all covered in moss. There's nothing useful left."
"Did we come all this way for nothing?" He thought for a moment, then ordered his men who had come in to feel the floor and see what was there.
The goblins bent down and began to feel around, piece by piece. Just when Sharl thought there might not be anything here, one of the goblins cried out and then picked up an item from the water.
With a "splashing" sound, Ciel waded through the water and took it. It was a small square metal box, a bit heavy, about the size of a book.
"Let's look again." He tucked the box under his arm and stood there waiting.
Another ten minutes or so passed, and the goblins had searched the entire floor of the stone chamber but found nothing else.
With a heavy heart, Charles ordered his men to go up, hoping to find some more magical equipment, just like the ring he found in the slime basement last time.
"What is this thing?" He sat on the grass, wiping the mud off the box. "It looks like gold."
"Using gold to hold things," he said, shaking the container with both hands as if sensing something inside. "I wonder what it could be?"
He suddenly became curious again; something packaged in a gold box must be quite nice.
After carefully examining the seams, he finally found a way to open it: "It's still a sealed box."
"Let me see what's inside."
