Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins
Chapter 165 He's taken a liking to you
With a tap of your finger, you'll instantly be transported to the wonderful world of Chapter 164, "The Person Who Has Taken a Flirt With You."
"Yes, teacher, I will go and capture all those goblins right away," the mage said respectfully.
"No," Cunningham tapped the goblin's wooden hands and feet on the lab table in front of him, watching the muscle reactions of its body. "Don't act immediately. You need to observe it further. I need to know the detailed behavior of the leader goblin."
"Understood." The monk nodded heavily. "I will observe him further until I have a complete grasp of all aspects of his behavior before taking action."
"An interesting soul," Canning said without looking back at the mage behind him, still examining the goblin in the experiment with great interest. "We haven't been able to find a more powerful soul in a living organism, and research and modification of the body have made little progress. He is a very good test subject for soul experiments."
With a "thud," Cunningham plunged a silver dagger into the goblin's shoulder. Then, ignoring the goblin's groans, he slashed the connection between the wood and the body. "Those magical puppets made by arcane mages can't be replaced by a body. This path won't work."
"Go, and remember not to disappoint me." He waved his hand, shooing his disciple away like a fly.
Upon hearing this, the middle-aged mage felt as if he had been granted a pardon. With a "bang," a cloud of blue smoke rose up, and he transformed into a red ladybug, silently flying out of the basement.
"The Spell Union," Cunningham chuckled twice, then waved his hand. The goblin struggling on the experimental table arched its body, trembled a few times, and then collapsed, clearly dead. "Once I've dealt with the plague, let's see if you still dare to hunt me down. I'll make you all bow down to me then."
A sinister laugh echoed through the basement. In a corner cage, the mutated goblins huddled together, trembling and too afraid to move.
…………
"There's a mark here too." Green Skin took a small shovel and came to a tree, smoothing out a very simple mark on the trunk.
"I'll have to look around some more," he said, glancing at the surrounding trees before preparing to continue his search.
Those marks were carved by Three Scars before, intended to make it easier to find them on the way back. Greenskin didn't want the Evil Throat Army to track him down. He had stayed in this goblin tribe for a few days and had been completely won over by the food and warm clothes. He had even performed the ankle-touching ritual. Now he just wanted to remove these marks as soon as possible.
He came alone and did not follow anyone else. The chief assigned him the task of helping the centaurs build their homes. Although the two tribes did not speak the same language, it did not stop the green skin from helping to level the land and process the wood. He also ate dried venison twice.
It's kind of funny, but back when he was at the Evil Throat Army's base, he was incredibly envious when he saw Three Scars showing off his piece of venison in front of all the goblins. But now, after eating it a few times, he thinks the taste is just so-so, not as good as the smoked fish and fruit cakes he had at noon.
But the centaurs would still throw him a few pieces of dried venison, which allowed Greenskin to chew on something while helping to tidy up the huge open space. "The centaurs aren't like those goblins who said that you have to kill all the goblins you see."
So his experiences over the past few days have once again broadened his understanding and given him some new ideas. When he rests, he goes into the woods here and scrapes off the markings so that the Evil Throat Army can't find this area.
"That way I can live peacefully in the tribe. The chief said he'll give me a set of clothes and a bed in a few days."
Just as he was happily digging at a marker, he didn't notice a small figure standing up from the bushes behind him. With a "smack," the figure slammed down a wooden stick, knocking the thug unconscious.
"That bastard dared to remove the mark I made!" Three-Scar kicked the goblin on the ground several times, then looked up and quickly glanced around. Seeing that there was no movement, he immediately took out the rope he hadn't used before from the bushes and tied Greenskin up.
Then he carefully dragged the green-skinned animal into the depths of the woods.
After a while, Qingpi shook his head and slowly woke up. He then found that his upper body was tightly bound by a rope, while Sanba was sitting next to him, chewing on half a small bird.
"You're awake?" Three-Scar said vaguely, as bits of flesh and blood mixed with bird feathers fell to the ground from his mouth. "Looks like you've joined that goblin's pack."
Qingpi remained silent, not uttering a word, but discreetly surveying his surroundings while his hands behind his back twitched back and forth, attempting to break free of his restraints.
The intense pain caused Green Skin's face to twitch. He gasped for breath, trying to alleviate the effects of the blow. After a short while, he stared at Three Scars in front of him and suddenly blurted out, "The venison tastes just so-so."
"Huh?" Three-Scar paused, not understanding what the other person meant. He stopped tearing at the half-eaten bird in his hand and looked at Green Skin suspiciously. "What did you say?"
"I said the venison tastes just so-so, not as good as the other food the tribe eats." Green Skin stared intently at Three Scars, his words aggravating the bruises on his face, causing him to twitch in pain.
Three-Scar's face darkened as he looked at the half-eaten bird in his hand, then at the goblin opposite him. He raised his wooden club, intending to teach Greenskin a lesson. "Have you ever eaten venison, you idiot?"
"I've eaten it, the centaur gave it to me." Greenie stared at the other's movements, pondering what to do next. However, in the goblin race's dictionary, there were only two choices in this situation—1. Forcefully knock the other away and then try to bite him to death; 2. Forcefully knock the other away and then turn around and run away.
Unfortunately, his feet are now tied with a rope, making it unlikely that he can take large steps, as that would cause him to fall. Therefore, he can only choose the first option: bite Sanba to death.
"The centaurs also keep quite a few large antlered deer, right?" Scarface held up his wooden club but didn't bring it down; his eyes were full of greed. "And what other food do those goblins have?"
Then, he put down the wooden stick and took out the dagger that had fallen to the ground earlier. He had turned back to retrieve that broken dagger and discovered the centaurs' tracks.
"It seems there's a good amount of food stored here. As long as I go back and report to the general, I can secure my position as 'Overseer'." He picked up his dagger, glanced at the mangled bird carcass in his hand, and recalled the venison offered to him by the centaur earlier. He then slammed the bird carcass to the ground.
But soon he picked up the half bird again, completely ignoring the dirt and leaves stuck to it, and stuffed it back into his mouth.
"Get up, I won't kill you." He chewed on bits of meat, approaching the green-skinned man but maintaining a safe distance. "Come back with me. If you don't move, I'll poke you with a branch and see how long you can endure it."
Finally, Qingpi frowned, took a few steps, looked back at the woods to the south, and was then whipped on the back with a wooden stick by Sanba and driven into the woods to the north.
…………
"You mean one goblin is missing?" Upon hearing Nine Fingers' report, Sharl immediately frowned. "The hideouts of those five goblins are gone?"
Seeing his subordinate nod affirmatively, he immediately realized that the man might have been captured. "He didn't run away on his own. During our previous conversation, he seemed very positive. He wouldn't choose to defect."
Moreover, goblins are not intelligent enough to have the acting skills to fool their own eyes.
"It's that escaped 'traitor,' he actually came back." Xia Er listened to Nine Fingers say that when he rested, Green Skin would go into the forest to the north and come out to continue working after a while. He deduced that Green Skin must have been doing something in the forest and was caught by the other party.
"Send someone to call Broken Tooth and Evita over immediately," Charles solemnly ordered his subordinates, "as well as those skeleton warriors."
He needed to formulate a strategy against the Evilthroat Army immediately. It was foreseeable that once the two goblins returned to the Evilthroat Army, the enemy would definitely mobilize all its forces to attack him.
"We can't fight a defensive battle this time; we can only engage them in open battle." Charles watched Nine Fingers run away quickly and immediately began to analyze the specific situation. "The entire fortress is still under construction, and there aren't many defensive measures left. Moreover, those goblins will become even more frenzied after drinking the 'holy water,' so the killing effect of those stinking balls and grenade fruits is very limited. We can only rely on positional warfare."
"During this period, Broken Tooth needs to increase patrols in the north, and the area needs to be expanded. The combat coordination between goblins and centaurs needs to be further improved. We can only ask Evita to stop building the village for now."
He rubbed his temples. "500 crazed goblins are indeed a bit difficult to deal with, but the Evil Throat Army shouldn't commit all of their goblins to the battle. They will definitely commit them in batches, which will force my tribe to flee or choose to surrender."
"The centaurs toyed with those goblins before, so they definitely won't hold back this time," Charles squinted and clenched his fists a few times. He really wanted to capture the other side's 500 goblins. As long as he could bring all those goblins into his tribe, he could activate the next alien letter—Whispers of the Forest.
But this is difficult. The Evilthroat Army is not easy to deal with, especially with their relentless and frenzied attacks. Our own people and centaurs have to fight under immense psychological pressure.
"What's wrong? Did you call me here?" Evita walked over with a "tap-tap" sound. Some tubers were still on her horse's back, whether she was planting them or preparing to feed the mimic monster was unclear.
"There's something I need to tell you," Charles said calmly, looking at the centaur girl. "The Evilthroat Army is coming."
