Forests Don't Support Idle Goblins

Chapter 5 The Enemy is a Bear Goblin

Goblins are a very interesting species.

They do not eat the heads of their prey; instead, they stick them on sticks and erect them in the forest to mark the hunting grounds. Each tribe will allocate a portion of the forest area as its hunting grounds, and the boundaries are eventually determined through struggles between the tribes.

As the goblin tribe continued to expand outwards, Nightmare Forest was divided into numerous hunting grounds of varying sizes.

Goblins are greedy. Even with head markers, they will still sneak across the border and, if they are not attacked, will take over their neighbors' territory.

Goblins are also foolish; adventurers don't remove the head markers and even mark different areas on the map to make ear cleaning easier.

It often happens that a group of 7 or 8 goblins will be wiped out by adventurers in a single day, and then a few more goblins will take over the area 3 days later.

When Shire became the leader, the first thing he did was to remove all the head markers from his hunting grounds and secretly insert them into the territory of a nearby goblin den.

He also had his men climb the treetops to keep watch, and with this maneuver and their green camouflage, they successfully evaded the adventurers' search.

However, the information that Little John revealed before leaving—that the adventurers would form larger teams to enter the forest—was very important.

While waiting for the "potatoes" to bake, he picked up a twig and casually drew a simple map on the ground.

"This is a forest, and next to it is Giethoorn, the town ruled by Earl Valentine, with the Darren River flowing through it."

"More manpower means a larger and more detailed search area." He drew a line at the edge of the forest, "so this edge of the forest will be more dangerous."

"Strange, why are they expanding their ranks?"

"What danger could there be? What danger could there be at the edge of the forest? It's full of goblins."

Completely baffled, Charles tapped a tree branch in his palm like a pointer. "Fine, we need to increase our self-defense capabilities no matter what."

"Trying to protect themselves..." He glanced at his three men who were scrambling for food.

"Damn it, that's mine." A goblin who was 1.5 meters tall snatched the half-mouse back from his companion.

His name is Red-Eyes, and he is the number two in the tribe. Compared to the green pupils of most goblins, he has a pair of red eyes.

[Name: Akame]

[Race: Goblin]

[Danger Level: 0.8, Capable Waste]

[Personality: Reckless]

Although Red Eyes is a bit slow-witted, he is now the main fighter of the tribe. He was the one who competed with Sharl for the leadership position before, and now Red Eyes is the one who mainly faces the enemy head-on during the hunt.

The goblin, whose mouse had been stolen by the red-eyed man, didn't dare to resist. Instead, he fished out another worm from the pot.

His name is Broken Tooth. He is 1.4 meters tall. One of his left teeth was broken off by someone, so he only has half of it.

[Name: Broken Tooth]

[Race: Goblin]

[Danger Level: 0.7, Useless Person with Some Flaws]

[Personality: Timid]

Broken Tooth was very timid; when the Deinonychus killed the former leader, he ran ahead of the Shire.

However, he had excellent eyesight, so Charles assigned him to climb a tree to keep watch. If he noticed anything unusual, he was to make a "coo-coo" sound, and at the same time, he was to collect bird eggs.

When John was here, he was hiding behind the leaves.

The white-haired goblin cooking in front of them fished out two frog hind legs from the pot and began to gnaw on them with gusto.

Her name is White Hair, she is 1.3 meters tall, and she is the only female goblin in the tribe.

Name: White Hair

[Race: Goblin]

[Hazard Level: 0.5, Waste]

[Personality: Timid]

Female goblins look similar to male goblins, except they are smaller, have softer features, and fewer wrinkles on their faces.

Another major rule of the goblin race is that the leader possesses all the female goblins, which is one of the reasons why insubordination often occurs in this race.

However, Sharl had no interest in female goblins; he preferred blonde, fair-skinned, long-legged elf girls.

Moreover, since joining this group, the white-haired girl has been a widow three times, so Ciel feels it's more appropriate to call her "sister-in-law".

Her daily tasks included gathering wild fruits and mushrooms, as well as cooking.

Ciel was worried about the goblins' intelligence, so he always had the white-haired goblin bring him the mushrooms he had collected to inspect, experiment with, and identify the ones that were edible.

Those that are entirely yellow with red and blue spots on their canopies are obviously problematic.

Sharmo stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Sister-in-law of the Japanese devil," he thought. "These are my subordinates. They seem unreliable, but at least they're obedient. I trained them to hunt wild boars before, and they cooperated quite well."

First, the Broken Tooth, hidden in a tree, uses bird calls to signal the appearance of the prey. Then, when the prey steps on a mechanism, a goblin dummy made of vines and grass by White Hair pops out. When the big boar is enraged and charges at the dummy, it falls into a trap full of spears. Then, you and Red Eyes jump out from your hiding place to attack the remaining small boars.

The plan was executed flawlessly and comprehensively, and the team members practiced it very well.

I didn't expect to gain so much from my first hands-on experience today.

"But relying on just the three of them is still like an old man hanging himself." Charles retracted the branch he had been using as a "back scratcher" from his back.

"The quickest way is to annex another tribe." He pointed the branch northward, "When the enemy advances, we retreat."

"Red Eyes, come here." He summoned his subordinate to his side. "Do you know what the situation is like with the goblin tribe to the north?"

"I know, they're cunning, cunning," Red Eyes said casually, a piece of fruit peel still stuck to his teeth.

"How many goblins do they have?"

"Leader, there are 16."

Charles nodded. This number was good; any more would be a bit troublesome.

The leader of a goblin tribe will expel distrusted subordinates and also recruit goblins from other tribes.

If you lull the enemy into submission with the pretext of seeking refuge, and then carry out a decapitation strike, given the goblins' cowardly nature, they will most likely surrender en masse.

Right now, our own group is at most a gang. If we could completely take over the other side, then we could at least be considered a vibrant forest group.

Charles asked confidently, "Have you met their leader?"

"I've seen it before, it's a bear goblin, and it's this tall."

After saying that, Chi Mu picked up a long branch and stood on tiptoe to show it to Xia Er.

"This... it must be at least two meters tall." Charles was dumbfounded. He knew that the goblin race was not protected by the gods and had no choice but to worship evil gods. The power of evil gods caused goblins to mutate, giving birth to "mutants" like bear goblins. Moreover, this mutation would occur randomly when the mother goblin gave birth.

Shire had never seen a real bear goblin; his knowledge of them came from natural history books, which said that bear goblins were born for battle and riots and grew much faster than ordinary goblins among the goblin population.

He never expected that the leader opposite him would be a goblin.

"Alright, you can continue eating." After shooing away the red-eyed man, Charles continued to think of a solution.

This battle is unwinnable. I got up, but I was instantly killed. It's like an adult beating a child.

Find a time to bypass them and avoid contact? Impossible. I still need to meet with Little John. I absolutely have to take down this group of goblins.

"The goblin is really powerful," Sharl muttered to himself, rummaging through the ashes for a "potato."

He skewered one that was charred black, peeled off the outer skin, "but it was still a mutated goblin."

"Let's go scout ahead this afternoon."

He took a bite of the tuber, his mouth trembling from the heat. "Damn it, I've had enough of this junk."

…………

Scarface huddled up, looking at the three goblins in front of him with some fear.

The chief goblin ate most of the lunch today, so he didn't get much leftovers and had to come out to look for something to eat because he was so hungry.

He knew it was dangerous to act alone, but he was just too hungry.

As a result, instead of finding food, they were captured by three wild goblins.

You guys have no sportsmanship, you ambushed me on our own turf.

If the leader were here, he would definitely take them all down with one blow.

"Don't be afraid, I have something to ask you." Charles grinned and asked, "Why are you here all alone?"

"I... the leader sent me to scout ahead." Scarface's eyes darted around. "He and his men are right behind us."

"Release me now! Once the leader arrives, killing you will be like killing white worms, one swish, one swish, one hammer blow each."

Charles said, "That's great. I just came to ask if I could join you."

"Join?" Scarface straightened up immediately. "You can join, but you have to go through me first. The leader isn't someone anyone can have."

As he spoke, he looked down at Ciel with an arrogant expression and pointed to his mouth.

Charles smiled and offered a few wild fruits, asking, "May we see the chieftain now?"

"See the leader?" Scarface snatched the wild fruit and stuffed it into his mouth. "No, the leader is seriously injured and won't see goblins right now."

"If I don't agree, the chief won't see you." With that, he stretched out his hand and beckoned with his finger, continuing to ask for food.

Charles continued with a smile, "Red Eyes, beat him up."

After a few cries of pain, Scarface curled up into a ball again.

He was furious that these out-of-town goblins dared to bully him like this.

Aren't you afraid he'll tell the leader, the goblin bear, to kill them one by one?

He doesn't even know who he is. The scar on his forehead was made by the goblin chieftain himself when they were fighting over food.

Moreover, these three goblins don't smell like goblins at all; where did these wild creatures come from?

"I really want to join, but I don't know when your leader will arrive."

Charles knelt down and helped Scarface wipe the blood off his face.

"I'm telling the truth," Scarface said with a smirk, as Charles had just touched his wound. "Our leader was bitten by a Deinonychus and is recuperating in the cave."

Upon hearing this, Charles pulled out two wild berries from behind his back and said, "Really?"

"Really." Scarface's eyes gleamed with greed as he looked at the wild fruit. "But I still need to agree first."

Charles glanced at the goblin in front of him, who was acting like a bully, and said with a smile, "In that case, we'll come tomorrow."

After saying that, he pulled Scarface up.

As Charles moved, Scarface grimaced in pain, but he still quickly grabbed the wild fruit and stuffed it into his mouth to chew, ignoring the pain on his face.

"Alright, aren't you going to get lost?" Charles smiled with satisfaction, took the stick from Red Eyes' hand, and made a move to hit him.

Scarface was so frightened that he turned and ran. After running a few steps, seeing that the other person was not chasing him, he stopped and looked back.

Why are these goblins still giving me fruit? Are they afraid of me?

Seeing the other person raise the wooden stick again in the distance, he turned and ran towards the burrow.

These three goblins are afraid of me and dare not chase me; he is very certain of this.

These wild berries are so sour, and I feel even hungrier now.
