Chapter 11 Flat Nose and Scarred Face

Linchui Town, training camp.

Linsel loaded his crossbow and practiced shooting.

After making a splash at the tavern that morning, he didn't stay long before running away.

The lamb chop set meal at the tavern was delicious, but after he finished eating, there was still no change in [Devour Growth+].

Perhaps he wasn't eating enough variety of food? Or was his diet too monotonous? Linsel thought to himself, so he went to the market in Linchui Town, spent some copper coins to buy six or seven kinds of vegetables and grains, and went back to the shed to make a pot of vegetable stew.

All that effort wasn't in vain; after dinner, the reward he had been waiting for finally arrived! A notification appeared on the panel.

[[Devour Growth+] effect activated, Charisma +1]

It seems that the effect of the level 2 enhancement [Devour Growth+] is still relatively slow. If it can be upgraded to level 3 in the future, the growth speed may be faster.

Linsel aimed at the target not far away, and bolts shot out from his left arm, all landing on a quiver of arrows directly in front of him.

Now, it can hit the target every time within ten meters. The crossbow can be used for harassment and is also very useful in critical moments.

"Linse, kid, why are you practicing with a crossbow? Have you learned how to use a spear yet?"

Instructor Rhodes walked towards him, a pipe dangling from his lips.

"I've learned the basic offense and defense, instructor. Check if my movements are up to standard."

Linsset picked up a spear and approached the scarecrow, stabbing it up and down, each thrust hitting a vital spot with perfect accuracy.

Rod exhaled a puff of smoke.

"This is the basics. In actual combat, the enemy won't stand still and let you poke them. But you've practiced enough for now... Also, show me how to use the spear wall technique that I just taught you."

Linsset leaned forward, gripped his spear tightly, and raised it diagonally forward.

This is a spear wall, a combat stance specifically designed to stop the enemy's advance.

He has already learned how to use the spear wall, and his skills in crossbow weapons on the panel have reached the basic level.

[Spear Weapons: Basic]: When using spear weapons, accuracy is increased by 20%, and the Spear Wall skill is gained.

[Crossbow Weapons: Basic]: When using crossbow weapons, accuracy is increased by 5% and damage dealt is increased by 10%.

"Hmm, perfect movements, very good, you've mastered all my lessons!"

Rhodes praised Linsel loudly, his booming voice attracting other new adventurers who were practicing nearby to gather around.

"How did you learn it so quickly? It's only been two or three days, and we were taking the spear course together..."

"Hey, I know this kid. He's the little hero from the tavern this morning!"

Why is he a hero? What did he do?

The adventurers began to discuss amongst themselves when a shrill voice rang out, drawing the attention of everyone present.

"Hehe, little hero, interested in joining our [Sharp Teeth] team?"

The voice came from a short creature with green skin, who, judging from the bronze nameplate on his chest, was a bronze-level adventurer.

"Look! Goblins have run into town!"

A newcomer at the "white porcelain" level cried out in surprise, only to be met with a barrage of angry words.

"#$^&%! (Goblin swear word), look closely, who the hell is a goblin? I'm a goblin!"

Following behind the goblin adventurer was another adventurer of the same bronze level, a middle-aged man wearing chainmail, an iron helmet, and a hideous scar on his face.

"Flat nose, everyone who sees you says you're a goblin, and it seems you really are."

"Go to hell, 'Scarface'!" the goblin adventurer said, pointing at his nose. "See that nose? Goblins don't have noses that long!"

This was the first time Linsel had ever seen an adventurer of another race. This goblin did indeed look somewhat similar to a goblin; if you didn't look closely, they could be considered to be of the same race.

He checked the panels above the two people's heads.

【"Flat-nosed", Goblin, Level 1 Rogue, Health: 40/40, Armor: 50/50 (Goblin Leather Armor)】

【"Scarface", Human, Level 1 Warrior, Health: 75/75, Armor: 190/190 (Patched Chainmail, Noseguard Helmet)】

Linsel was still a level 0 commoner and had not yet become a professional. He was somewhat surprised when he saw that the two bronze-level adventurers in front of him were professionals.

Level 1 Wanderer and Level 1 Warrior...

Rhodes stepped forward and asked, "You don't look like adventurers from this town. Are you here at the camp for training?"

"No, find someone to team up with." Scarface's eyes scanned the training camp before landing on Lindsay.

"This newbie seems alright, but the others aren't that great."

Rod stared at the two of them and took a drag of his cigarette.

"You're bronze-level adventurers now, and the camp is full of newbies at the porcelain and iron levels. This kid is also a porcelain-level one. You probably won't find suitable teammates."

"Oh, let's go then."

After saying that, "Scarface" and "Flat Nose" left the camp without looking back.

"Instructor, who are these two?"

In response to Lindsay's question, Rhodes calmly replied, "They are adventurers from outside the town. They are all seasoned veterans among the lower-level adventurers. Remember, you newcomers should not provoke high-level adventurers unless necessary."

A boy scoffed, "Bronze level is considered high? We can reach that level by doing a dozen or twenty missions!"

"Levels are relative. Compared to them, you White Porcelain level and those who have just entered Black Iron level are still far weaker, not to mention that some of you may have already become professionals."

The boy, feeling slighted, walked away irritably, and the attention of the other newlyweds gradually shifted, and they dispersed.

After the crowd dispersed, Lindsay walked to Instructor Rhodes' side and quietly took out the tattered parchment.

"Instructor, look, is this a skill book?"

Rod took the parchment and examined it closely, then asked, "Where did you get this?"

"There's a robber there."

"This is a skill book, but it's incomplete. You'll need the complete book if you want to practice it."

Furthermore, this is a skill book for two-handed axes. If you want to practice it, your skill level needs to reach at least the proficiency level for two-handed axes to have any chance of learning it. So right now, it's just a piece of paper to you.

"So, instructor, will you teach how to use the double-handed axe?"

Rhodes shrugged: "I won't teach it. This weapon style is too rough and violent. I don't like it, and I don't know how to use it."

Besides, two-handed axes require strength to wield; they're mostly used by dwarves and orcs, rarely by humans. With your skinny arms and legs, you couldn't possibly use one.

Linsset silently put the parchment back.

It seems I won't be able to learn the combat skills in this skill book anytime soon.

"Alright, enough chit-chat," Rhodes turned around to continue instructing the other new recruits, "Keep practicing! You there, get your spear-wall stance right, stand still and don't wobble..."
