Chapter 123 Underground Palace

Lindsay naturally wouldn't enter the narrow cave first; he sent the "wolf boy" to probe first, and then he would follow.

The other party, of course, had no complaints, so he went down into the tunnel first, while Linsset followed behind, proceeding into the tunnel along the somewhat sloping entrance.

After sliding down the muddy ground at the entrance of the cave to the flat ground inside, Linsel discovered that the interior space of this thing was quite large, like a small underground palace. Ahead was an unknown area leading to an unknown destination, while above was a space two or three meters high.

The cave wasn't completely dark. The loose, domed ceiling above was made of mud and gravel, with dozens of small holes that let out a sliver of light, preventing the cave from being pitch black and allowing one to barely make out the path ahead.

The cave was rather desolate, with nothing but smooth stone walls at the edges and some weeds growing inside.

The "wolf child" led the way, and Lince walked forward, touching the stone wall with his hands.

These stone walls are flat and smooth, but not all of them are like that. Some places have irregular depressions and protrusions, making Linsset's original idea that the cave was man-made less tenable.

"Wolf boy, you seem quite familiar with this cave."

The adventurer walking ahead stopped and replied.

"No, this is my first time inside. At least the treasure map indicates this is the location of the cave."

However, the environment inside the cave isn't too complicated; there just seems to be a long, narrow passage. You'll feel more at ease if I walk ahead.

He paused briefly, then asked a very pointed question regarding the current situation.

"The 'Wolf Slayer,' if they find the treasure, will I be useless...?"

"You can focus on searching for the treasure ahead. Once you find it, you can leave safely. I won't go back on my word, and I'll even share a small portion of what's inside with you."

But this matter must not be known to a third person besides you and me. You know the consequences if the news leaks out.

Lindsay tried to offer some words that were more favorable to the "wolf child's" current situation. He knew very well that he couldn't completely trust this guy, and these words were only meant to temporarily appease him.

As for the other party's true fate, we'll see how we deal with them after the lost treasure is found.

The "wolf boy" didn't say anything more, but his movements seemed much lighter as he continued to explore forward at a steady pace.

The two remained silent, and the cave was quiet. Lin Se could only hear the faint sound of his boots stepping on the mud and gravel.

However, after walking for several dozen seconds, the area ahead suddenly became bright.

Lindsay saw a beam of light shoot down from the space above the "wolf child," leaving an irregular circular halo on the ground. Scattered dirt and stones surrounded the halo, and behind the halo appeared a fork in the path, dividing the cave passage into two entrances.

He walked over to the circle of light where the sunlight was shining and observed it closely. There was a small open opening above his head, which allowed the light to enter and create the circle of light on the ground inside the cave.

Small bits of dirt kept falling from above.

It seems that the upper structure of this cave is not very stable, and it is only covered with a layer of loose soil. I really don't know why the cave doesn't collapse. What kind of structure can support such an underground palace?

"This is a magic stone! We're going to be rich!"

At this moment, the "wolf boy" was at the crossroads. He was standing slightly ahead of Lindsay, pointing to the wall dividing the crossroads. A rhombus-shaped stone that was shining with green light was embedded in a groove in the wall.

A green magic stone? Another thing I've never seen before.

Linsel did know about the purple crystal; it was the thing embedded in the machine in the guild, and its function seemed to be to charge the machine.

So this green crystal might be related to the stability of the entire cave.

Just as the "wolf boy" was about to reach for the green stone, Lindsay immediately stopped him.

"Don't move yet."

"This stone is very rare; its value is measured in gold coins."

"Didn't you say that this cave is where treasure is hidden? There must be a reason why this thing is placed here. Touching this rock might... trigger some kind of trap, like a hidden arrow or a pit."

Upon hearing Lindsay's warning, the other party immediately withdrew their hand.

"That's true... Now there are two passages. Which one should we take? Should we split up?"

"Let's not split up, let me think... let's go to the left passage first."

The two passages look no different from the outside. The only difference is that although the soil on the ground inside the passage has been replaced with stone bricks, the stone brick passage on the left is intact, while the one on the right is damaged.

Lindsay and the "wolf boy" entered the left passage. After walking forward for a short while, the passage began to narrow on both sides, shrinking from a width of five people to three.

The passage was dimly lit, and the "wolf child" slowly groped his way forward, while Lindsay relied on [darksight] to clear the way.

There's nothing noteworthy in the passage ahead, except for a corner.

After the two turned the corner, the space in front of them suddenly expanded again, leading them into a large stone chamber, about the same size as the space they had just entered.

Lindsay first noticed the large, worn-out wooden crate placed in the very center of the ground.

Is that the treasure chest?

"The Wolf Slayer has found the treasure!"

The "wolf boy" walked to the vicinity of the center of the ground and also found the large box. This time, he did not rush to open it to check, but wisely stood aside and left it to Lindsay to decide.

"This might be treasure, but let's go back and check out another route first. If we don't find anything, we can come back later."

The two went back and came to the fork in the road, heading towards the right-hand passage.

After walking a short distance inside, just like the passage on the left, the road ahead also began to narrow before returning to its normal width.

However, Lindsay was also surprised when he saw the large stone chamber that the passage to the right led to.

Dozens of enormous insect eggs were laid on the ground! These eggs were as big as basketballs, and many spider webs were stuck to the walls of the stone chamber.

spider?

This was the first thing that came to Linsel's mind. Since the insect eggs were so big, the creature that laid them must have been some kind of giant spider, and probably a monster at that.

Then my twenty-sixth monster ability might be coming soon!

"Wolf Slayer, something seems off up ahead, there's a monster..."

The "wolf child" had just discovered the insect eggs, but Lindsay immediately interrupted him.

"Don't go in yet, let me observe for a while."
