Chapter 125 Spider Eggs

Not only the few spider eggs in front of Lindsay, but all the spider eggs further away in the stone chamber, without exception, had their shells broken, and small spiders with slime still on their bodies crawled out.

As if receiving some kind of signal, almost all of these newly hatched spiders swarmed towards Linse.

Lindsay quickly stepped back, quite surprised by the sight.

What's going on? Could it be that these baby blind spiders are all waiting to hatch and thus be born at the same time, or is it simply due to the spider's instinct?

However, Lindsay instantly understood the intentions of these young blind spiders: he saw that several of them at the very back were now pouncing on the "wolf child's" corpse, gnawing at the dead flesh.

It seems these spiders haven't eaten since they were born and must be very hungry, constantly searching for food.

Lindsay had no time to think further, because the dozens of spiderlings in front of him, ignoring the corpse behind them, were almost crawling up to him.

Some of the closest ones even pounced at his feet, gnawing at his leather boots.

He quickly shook off the few, and at the same time used the [Battle Smoke] ability, releasing smoke from his mouth, which spread outwards from himself in a few seconds.

Using the smoke as cover, Lindsay began to retreat from the stone chamber.

Although these spiderlings are not a great threat, it would be quite troublesome if dozens of them attacked you at once.

He released the smoke as he ran, with the spiders following closely behind.

When Linsel reached the narrower passage along the way back, he immediately stopped and switched to his iron sword and log shield.

This position is excellent for defense. As long as you stand still here, the [damage smoke] will slowly accumulate and spread, filling the narrow passage with smoke.

The smoke had a clear effect; the first few young spiders rushed into the smoke and lost their way, while the young spiders behind them continued to crawl into the smoke.

Lindsay has figured out the trick to using this monster's ability: by consciously controlling the amount of smoke he releases while exhaling, he can reduce the smoke concentration around his immediate vicinity, thereby enhancing his vision in the smoke.

He didn't see any spiders reach him through the smoke that blocked out the surroundings; he only heard rustling sounds coming from within the smoke.

What are they doing? Are they just wandering around in the smoke, or are they doing something else?

After waiting a few more seconds and still not seeing any spiders appear, Lindsay concluded that he had overestimated the abilities of these young spiders.

I've been releasing smoke for almost three or four minutes now, and I'll get tired if it goes on any longer. Plus, the fatigue I've accumulated since using up the [Adrenaline] monster ability is making me feel unwell.

He simply stopped releasing the smoke, turned around, and left.

Lin returned to the fork in the road inside the cave, and the young spiders did not follow.

It seems I'm safe for now, but I don't know what's going on with those monsters. Even if I were to open the treasure chest in the left side chamber right now, I still feel uneasy, and a chill runs down my spine.

Linsset remained alert, never lowering his sword and shield, and waited at the crossroads for a few more minutes.

No spiders caught up with them.

Several minutes have passed, the smoke should have dissipated by now, why haven't they come over yet?

Linsset slowly turned back to the right passage to investigate.

He wasn't actually afraid of these dozens of small spiderlings, but he was uneasy about their condition, so he had to find out what was going on.

Upon reaching a narrow section of the passage, Lindsay was somewhat taken aback by what he saw.

The ground was littered with the corpses and remains of young harvest spiders, most of which had been torn into pieces, with severed legs and half of their bodies remaining, along with a slimy substance that emitted a corrosive odor.

What caused these young monsters?

Lindsay couldn't imagine what other creatures were in this cave besides himself, so the most likely scenario was that they were cannibalizing each other.

To test this hypothesis, he carefully avoided the clumps of corrosive slime on the ground and continued forward.

The passageway was in much the same condition as what Lindsay had just seen, filled with the remains of spiderlings.

Upon returning to the right-hand stone chamber entrance, Lindsay finally saw the culprit behind all this: a blind spider, much larger than the newly hatched spiderlings but still much smaller than the original large spiders, was gnawing on the corpse of the "wolf child" adventurer.

The giant blind spider's survival strategy is quite peculiar; it cannibalize itself until only one remains, and it grows very quickly.

Lindsay briefly considered taking the last remaining juvenile blind spider as his helper, but it was only for a moment, because he was not a druid and did not have that ability.

The surviving blind spider, which was feeding, noticed Lindsay's presence. It immediately stopped biting, turned around, and crawled back toward Lindsay, while spraying a small clump of spider silk from its mouthparts.

Lindsay was caught off guard by the miniature spider silk attack, which was about the size of a ball of yarn. He easily blocked it with his wooden shield and at the same time stabbed the spider with his iron sword.

The last one was wiped out in one strike.

After inspecting the stone chamber and confirming that there were no other living creatures, Lindsay began to think about using spider materials.

Most of the young spiders had already been eaten to pieces, making it impossible to obtain any material, so he turned his attention to the giant mother spider.

It's quite interesting that the little spiders never ate the mother spider's corpse. However, Lindsay believes that if it weren't for the "wolf child's" corpse, they would most likely have eaten the mother spider's body.

Thinking about these things was pointless, so Lindsay used his iron sword to cut into the giant blind spider's body, starting to look for parts he thought were more useful.

He guessed that as a spider, its legs, venom glands, and mouthparts were probably monster materials, so he cut off these parts of the giant spider, collected them, and arranged them into a pile.

As for the spider silk and webs that were spit out, Lindsay thought they might also be useful materials, so he collected some as well, although the process of collecting them was somewhat troublesome for him.

The toughness and stickiness of these spider silks are unparalleled, making them very troublesome, but this also confirms that spider silk is very likely the material.

Lindsay approached the "wolf child's" corpse and picked up the dagger that had fallen to the ground.

This dagger is quite sharp, and its surface is very smooth. I will use it as my portable weapon from now on.

After searching the mangled corpse, he found a shrunken purse without any coins, but he did find something that Lindsay found interesting.
