Chapter 127 The Mysterious Reward

The wooden crate was unlocked, and he carefully inspected the area around it to see if anything seemed amiss.

Finding nothing amiss, Lindsay opened the treasure chest and discovered that inside was a pair of worn-out leather gloves that looked like they had been stored away for a long time, and nothing else.

Leather gloves? The "wolf boy" said this was where the treasures were stored, and this was the only place in the cave with such a box. He hadn't missed anything else interesting in the other places.

Then these leather gloves might be some kind of treasure.

Lindsay didn't take out the tattered gloves directly. Instead, he found a few small stones and tested them inside the box and on the gloves to make sure there were no traps before taking them out.

He didn't know what the gloves were for, so he didn't dare to put them on rashly.

In this other world, some items are cursed. If you recklessly interact with cursed items, you may suffer unexpected punishments, such as being unable to take off the equipment after wearing it, causing physical mutations, or even catastrophic consequences.

The gloves in front of him looked like an ordinary item, but Lindsay didn't dare to gamble on them.

Whether it's a cursed glove, an enchanted glove with magical abilities, or just an ordinary glove, it's impossible to know. If possible, you could find someone with expertise to authenticate it.

However, to be honest, it's hard to imagine that a pair of ordinary gloves would be kept in such a hidden cave, guarded by monsters like giant blind spiders.

If it's just an ordinary glove, is it possible that someone else came here before, took the really good stuff, and then just left behind a piece of junk?

Countless thoughts flooded his mind; the possibilities were too numerous, giving Lindsay a headache.

Overthinking was useless. He put his gloves in his pocket, tidied his clothes, and left the stone chamber, climbing out of the cave.

At this point, Lindsay began to think about how to remember the location of the burrow, since he would still need to come back to collect the spider materials in the next couple of days, and they might not be fresh if left for too long.

I remember those guys had a map of this hidden cave, but I was too nervous during the fight and forgot about it. Now I'll go back to their corpses and look for it again.

So Linsel searched the area where the battle had taken place again, and sure enough, he found the map in a small pit that was partially covered by mud.

"So that's where it fell. With this map, I won't have to worry about not finding this cave anymore."

Just in case, before leaving the primeval forest, he marked the entrance of the cave with branches and stones he found.

He had originally intended to skin the dead white wolf, but unfortunately, it seemed that because of his fire arrow, part of the wolf skin had been charred black, and the leather was no longer intact.

Moreover, being alone in the forest for too long made Linsel feel uneasy, so he followed the directions on the map and headed straight in the direction from which he had left the primeval forest.

Not long after, Linsset emerged from the last row of trees in the lush forest and onto the plain.

The view immediately opened up, and the wind and city could be vaguely seen on the horizon. However, the location where I came out was different from when I entered the forest. There was no mysterious little wooden house here, only stones and weeds.

Linsset then changed direction and headed back along the dirt road he had come from. Once back on the main road, he could walk back along it without having to go through all that trouble.

After traveling a short distance, Linsel flagged down a carriage that was going his way. He paid a few copper coins and rode back to the city. Before evening, he arrived back at the south gate of Wind and City.

The first thing Linse did after entering the city was naturally to go to the Adventurers' Guild.

There were slightly more adventurers in the guild than usual at midday, but still far fewer than in the morning when it was busiest.

He did not see the figure of "Broken Arrow".

Linsel was eager to share his experiences in the primeval forest with "Broken Arrow." He couldn't wait until nightfall, so he went to the counter and asked a staff member.

"Excuse me, did an adventurer named 'Broken Arrow' submit a quest today?"

"Let me check."

Lindsay waited a short while, and after the staff checked the mission log, he received an affirmative reply.

"Then do you know where the 'broken arrow' is?"

This question seemed to be troubling the other party.

Linsel understood what he meant. He took out a dozen copper coins from his purse as a tip and placed them in front of and behind the counter. The other person's expression immediately relaxed a lot.

"Wait a moment, I'll go ask the people who were on duty at the time."

After speaking, the staff member got up and walked into the inner room.

Linsel waited a little longer before the other party came out of the inner room. At the same time, a staff member whom Linsel was familiar with appeared with—the halfling girl.

"Ask her; she was at work this afternoon."

The halfling girl glanced at Lindsay and immediately recognized him.

"Oh, it's you, 'Wolf Slayer'! I remember now, the person you're talking about is your teammate, right? He said he was going to the training camp after he turned in his quest."

Thank you.

Upon receiving this news, Lindsay immediately left the Adventurers' Guild. Before leaving, he informed the guild of the events in the forest and then went to the training camp in Wind and City.

As soon as he arrived at the wooden fence gate outside the camp, he saw "Broken Arrow," who was practicing in the shooting range.

"Brinan, you came to the camp to practice without telling me beforehand, making it hard for me to find you."

"Broken Arrow" was somewhat surprised to see Linsel rushing over.

"Captain, you're so fast! I had some time after submitting my herbalism quest, and I didn't know what to do, so I came to the training camp to practice my target shooting."

Linsel recounted his encounter in the primeval forest and the discovery of the treasure in the cave to "Broken Arrow."

"Captain, are you alright? Those guys really wanted to kill and rob us? I should have stayed behind and helped you out."

"It's alright. Although those three adventurers were all bronze-level, they weren't very skilled. We took care of them in no time. It was the blind spiders in the cave that were more troublesome."

Lindsay took out the tattered leather gloves he had found in the cave.

"This is the treasure you were talking about? It really just looks like a pair of tattered gloves."

"Brinan, I'm not quite sure if this is some kind of treasure. Is there any way to find out about it, like getting it appraised?"
