Chapter 53 Linxi Village
"Hey, I killed that bandit first, his iron sword is mine!"
"Screw you! I was the one who shot him first!"
Not far away, two Iron-level adventurers were arguing over a corpse.
Lindsay was also searching the bodies of several thugs.
These guys were filthy and smelly, and incredibly poor; he only found a few copper coins.
"Goat" stared at the corpses on the ground for a while: "Most of these people were poor people who had nowhere else to turn and temporarily became bandits. Of course, it cannot be ruled out that there were also some born bad people."
Lindsay pointed to a wild dog monster that had been cut in half at the waist.
"Uncle 'Goat,' what kind of food can you find on these stray dogs?"
"No, dog skin isn't worth much."
Upon learning that there was nothing else of value, Lindsay immediately lost interest in the undead. He opened the panel to check his newly acquired monster abilities.
[Canine molars: Your teeth become sharp and hard, ensuring that your bite will draw blood.]
[Pack Combat: When you fight alongside two or more friendly canine creatures, your Strength +1 and Dexterity +1]
[Sensitive Smell+: Perception +1, the range within which you can smell unique nearby scents has increased]
[Sensitive Smell+] has reappeared.
It's nice to increase perception by 1 point, so Linsel chose this level 2 enhancement ability without hesitation this time.
After deciding on the monster's abilities, Linsel saw the mage of [Iron Fang] squinting as he approached him.
"Linse, the 'Wolf Slayer,' just now on the battlefield, I think I smelled the scent of fire magic. Was it you who used it?"
"It was just a fire arrow trick," Lindsay readily admitted.
Nowadays, more and more people know that they have the Flame Arrow Trick. According to the current adventurer level, Bronze, knowing a trick should be quite in line with combat strength.
The middle-aged monk in a long robe hummed in agreement.
"There aren't many bronze-level adventurers who know magic. Once we get to the village, we can exchange our magic tips."
As for the experience, Linsel didn't mind too much. In fact, he felt that he could learn something from a level 2 mage and gain a better understanding of the world through the eyes of a mage.
Several crows were already circling in the sky. Sheriff Will ordered the guards to pile all the enemy corpses together and set them on fire.
"Getting ready to go!"
The convoy started again along the dirt road, and after about an hour of travel, a village appeared not far ahead on the right side of the convoy.
"Goat" leaned out of the carriage: "See the Twilight Forest on the left? This village is near the forest, it's Linxi Village. I've been here several times before."
"How's the village?" Linssey asked.
"Yes, because it's close to the Twilight Forest and is a village on the road to the North, the village is quite large and usually quite lively, with adventurers often stopping there."
The carriage convoy stopped at the village entrance, and the members of the punitive expedition disembarked.
Linsset saw a row of tightly packed wooden fences, more than two meters high, surrounding the entire village. Behind the fences were several wooden watchtowers, where several militiamen were on guard.
The large iron gate at the village entrance was pushed open, and a group of people came out, including villagers, women, the elderly, children, and some ragged refugees, all welcoming the expeditionary force into the village.
Sheriff Will shouted, "Everyone, go to the village square and wait. The village chief and I have some things to discuss!"
Linssey and his group followed behind the crowd. He saw a middle-aged white-haired man, the leader of the villagers, talking to Sheriff Will and a silver-level squad.
"That's the village chief of Linxi Village. He's a few years older than me and a very composed person." "Goat" pointed to the white-haired man in Lin Sai's eyes.
"Let's go inside. We'll leave the specifics to the sheriff and Iron Fang."
As the group entered the village, they found that the houses were all wooden, neat and orderly, and the ground was paved with cobblestones, making it seem like a relatively wealthy village.
However, the atmosphere in the village was somewhat oppressive at this time.
Linsel saw many ragged, hungry refugees in the village, sitting by the walls of wooden houses or near the village paths, begging from passing villagers or adventurers who had just entered the village.
Claire was humming a little tune when she saw an old village woman with a little boy walking towards her, reaching out for food, and she felt a pang of pity.
"Linse, how much food does the squad have left? Share some with them!"
Lindsay looked at "Broken Arrow," who shrugged and said, "We only brought our usual food supplies for adventures, enough for just three or four days' worth of black bread."
"You didn't bring enough, give them some copper coins."
Linssay's concern was that if food was distributed, it would cause trouble if other refugees from the surrounding area flocked over; it would be better to give them some money.
He took out a dozen or so copper coins from his purse, and the others each added some more, which Claire then handed to the old woman.
"Take this and buy some dark bread for the children!"
"Thank you, adventurers, thank you!" The old woman bowed repeatedly in gratitude.
"You escaped from the north... wait, which village?"
"It's Bian'en Village," "Goat" reminded "Broken Arrow," who was covering his head.
"Sigh, my memory is sometimes good and sometimes bad; I can't even remember the name of the village."
"Yes, it's Byeon Village," the old woman replied in a hoarse voice.
"During the previous war between the two sides, many soldiers came into the village and forcibly conscripted men, and then burned the village down."
After the war ended, only a few weeks after the reconstruction of Bian'en Village, before the wooden fence was even repaired, a group of goblins launched a surprise attack. If it weren't for the militiamen's desperate cover, we wouldn't have been able to escape at all..."
The little boy wolfed down his bread, forcing it down, while Claire squatted down and handed him a water bottle.
"Eat slowly, don't choke."
The old woman carefully put away the copper coins: "Sigh, bread in the village has become expensive lately. Now it takes 10 copper coins to buy a loaf of black bread."
It seems the situation in Linxi Village is not optimistic either.
The four continued walking along the cobblestone path, and Linsset saw the village square not far away.
The so-called village square is a large open space in the middle of the houses. There is a notice board on one side of the open space, where several adventurers and villagers are watching.
Kaller was among them.
Linsel arrived at the notice board, where two quest books were posted, both of which were Iron-level quests.
"Kaller, when did you get here?"
"It's you, Lindsay!" Kaller was overjoyed.
"I came here in your expeditionary convoy, but it did cost me some travel expenses."
"Can adventurers also accept quests here?" Lindsay asked Caller.
"Yes, Linxi Village doesn't have any mobile guilds. The tasks listed here are all unofficial tasks posted by the villagers."
You won't gain guild points by doing it unless you spend some money to talk to the village chief and have him apply to the Adventurers' Guild for you, but that will take a long time.
