Chapter 79 Dilemma
"If you can't read, or if you haven't decided what to choose after a while, then I suggest you go out first, look at the points redemption table outside the door, and think it over before coming back in."
There's even a points redemption table? Linsel was too excited to notice it when he came in.
Let's take a quick look at everything first.
The weapons displayed on table number two are mostly common in weapon shops, but they are all advanced models.
Ordinary wooden spears with iron tips, log shields, and iron swords were no longer available; instead, weapons such as iron spears, fan-shaped shields, kite-shaped shields, and longswords were used.
There are two large shelves under the table. The first shelf holds two-handed weapons: a pointed spear (40 points), a two-handed sword (60 points), and a long axe (80 points)...
The second weapon is much larger, making Brand's sword seem insignificant in comparison.
A giant axe, with a blade the size of a human head, costs 130 points; two giant iron hammers, with heads resembling massive iron pillars, cost 110 points…
Among these, what interested Linsel the most were two greatswords that were even longer than two-handed swords. One was sharper and thinner, while the other was heavier and wider. The corresponding iron plaques read: Duel Greatsword, 120 points; Dragon Slayer Greatsword, 150 points.
These weapons are beyond my current capabilities, and I'm still short of the required points.
Earning points isn't difficult, and improving one's corresponding skills only requires time. The main shortcoming is that one's own strength is insufficient.
How to increase strength? The most direct way is to obtain it from monster abilities. Based on previous experience in obtaining abilities, if you want to increase strength, you should kill more large monsters with brute force.
Then we need to pay special attention to these kinds of monsters from now on.
Lindsay walked to the third table, on which were placed some wooden boxes with descriptions of various strange objects:
Fiery red badge, sleepless spinning top, swift leather boots, blank crystal ball, calming bracelet, floating feathers…
After carefully examining the floating feather, Linsai realized that it was the same as his own rare item, except that the guild's item was not a consumable.
However, the exchange points required for these rare items were quite high for him; Linsel checked and found that even the lowest one required 100+ points.
Upon reaching the fourth table, there were several stacks of booklets, parchment, and books, seemingly enchanted so that the contents of the skill books—combat skills, feats, and spells—could not be seen.
I didn't expect the guild to actually have skill books on spells; it feels like a blessing for lower-level adventurers.
But Lindsay looked at it carefully and found that it was not what he had thought.
Regarding spell skill books, there are only some tricks and first-tier spells. The minimum score for combat-related spells is also 100+. Other auxiliary tricks, such as [Water Creation] and [Fire Creation], require 80 points, and the lowest [Light] requires 60 points.
Linsel thought of Rolf, the mage from the Silver-ranked squad [Iron Fang], and felt that based on his performance, there was a big gap between his strength as a Silver-ranked mage and his impression of him.
Could it be that the other world I've come to is a low-magic world?
Silver-level adventurers aren't exactly bottom-tier adventurers anymore; they don't seem to be much stronger than some bronze-level adventurers.
In any case, from what Lindsay observed, few adventurers at the bottom level possessed specialized combat skills, let alone magic.
Lindsay began searching for combat skills and feats, which were cheaper than spell skill books.
Because to learn weapon-related combat skills, the corresponding weapon expertise must be at least at the proficiency level, Lindsay found several combat skills related to ranged and sword weapons, as well as several general combat skills and class expertise.
He casually opened the panel and found that all the skill books had appeared on it, along with their corresponding descriptions.
[Long Shot]: You charge up and fire an arrow, increasing its range by 100% and damage by 50%. 80 points.
[Close-Range Shot]: You fire an arrow at a target within five meters using your bow. This shot will not miss and the arrow's speed is increased. 70 points.
[Moving Shot]: You fire an arrow while moving quickly using a bow and arrow; this arrow will not miss. 60 points.
[Precision Shot]: When you fire an arrow with a bow after charging, this arrow will not miss, increasing accuracy by 100% and damage by 50%.
I didn't expect the panel to have this function. Why can't the two parchment skill books I got before be displayed? Is it because they are incomplete?
Of these four ranged combat skills, three are archery-related, and all of them are possessed by the teammate "Broken Arrow".
[Armor-Piercing Arrow]: You fire an arrow using a crossbow; this arrow deals double damage to the target's armor. 60 points.
This is the only combat skill left for crossbow-type weapons, and it feels pretty good.
[Feint]: When you swing a sword, the sword's trajectory changes, making it harder for the target to dodge. 80 points.
[Diagonal Vertical Slash]: When using a sword, aim a vertical slash at the top of the target's head. The slash path changes, making it harder for the target to dodge. 80 points.
There are two remaining combat techniques for sword-type weapons, and judging from the descriptions on the iron plate, they seem to be quite similar.
Linsel also found several general combat skills that required less than 100 points, meaning combat skills applicable to most people regardless of the weapon used.
Besides the [heavy strike] he has already learned, there are three others.
[Crippling Strike]: When you deal effective damage to a target with a melee weapon, the corresponding body part of the target is immediately changed to critically injured or missing. 100 points.
[Parry]: When you parry an enemy's attack, you will always be able to successfully parry. 60 points.
[Forward Sprint]: You can sprint forward a distance at extremely high speed. 80 points.
Finally, there are the profession specializations. Linssey found two specializations for warriors.
[Colossus]: Increases your physical strength and reduces the threshold for injuries. 100 points.
[Robust]: Increases your physical strength, reduces fatigue buildup, and allows you to wear heavier armor. 100 points.
He already possessed the [Robust] ability as a monster, and he wasn't sure if this skill book overlapped with the one he obtained through his cheat ability. If they didn't overlap and could be stacked, that would be ideal, but he didn't want to gamble on that.
[Colossus] is a good option to consider, as increasing physical strength should mean increasing health.
All things considered, there are only a limited number of skill books to choose from with 100 points, and Linssey hesitated, unsure of what to do.
"Are you dawdling? Have you made up your mind yet? If you can't decide, you can come back to choose next month. It's the middle of the month now, and the items in the reward area change every month, which means you can wait another half month."
"Oh, I understand."
Lindsay ultimately decided to leave first and consider it for a few days before coming back to make a choice.
He walked out of the guild reward area and looked around. He found a notice on the far left of the wall in a dimly lit area.
"So this is where the points redemption table is."
