Chapter 8: New Squad and New Mission

Linchui Town, evening, Guild Tavern.

"Lince, 100 copper coins, which is 1 silver coin, and 2 points. Here you go."

Linssey took the silver coin from the female guild staff member, pulled his hood down, and turned to walk out of the guild office.

He had just inquired about it and found that monster encyclopedias, which record information about monsters, are only sold in cities; guilds in towns and villages don't sell them.

However, it is said that some adventurers secretly possess such items.

He now has 21 silver coins and 6 points, which is enough to pay for the leather armor that old tailor Zane made for him.

Linsset had just emerged from the sewers, braving the drizzling rain, and arrived at the tavern without even changing out of his charred corset.

After three consecutive matches, even after finishing the dried meat and bread, it still wasn't enough; he was too hungry.

Linsley sat down at a wooden table in a corner and shouted at the bar, under the curious gazes of the other adventurers.

"Boss, a pork chop set meal, please!"

"Go and greet the guests, Lilia."

At the prompting of the portly pub owner, a petite girl of about twelve or thirteen years old emerged from the kitchen behind the bar and ran to Lindsay.

"Adventurer, what kind of steak set meal would you like? Pork, venison, or lamb?"

"Give me a venison steak, here you go, this is 1 silver and 50 copper."

"One venison steak, two pieces of dark bread, a serving of dried fruit, and a large glass of ale. Please wait a moment."

The girl named Lilia skipped and hopped back to the kitchen.

"Lilia is so cute, when can I have her order for me!"

"Come on, you idiot. We lowly adventurers can only afford to eat that kind of expensive set meal once in a while. Look at that newbie, he actually ordered it. His clothes are all tattered. I didn't expect him to be so rich."

Some muttering reached Linsel's ears, causing him to frown slightly. At that moment, two unfamiliar adventurers got up from the table next to him and walked to Linsel's table.

Lindsay saw that the two adventurers were a year or two older than him, one male and one female.

The man carried a spear and shield, while the woman had a short bow at her waist. The black nameplates on their shoulders indicated that they were Iron-rank adventurers.

The male adventurer spoke first: "Hello, friend, I am Eric. Can you write and keep records?"

"I know a little."

The female adventurer chimed in, introducing herself as well: "My name is Camilla. What's your name? You seemed to have made a fortune on your last quest. What monster did you kill?"

"I am Lindsay. I just killed some giant rats in the sewers today."

Lindsay glanced at the panel that appeared.

Eric, Human, Health: 65/65, Armor: 70/70 (Leather)

Camilla, Human, Health: 55/55, Armor: 55/55 (Poor Quality Leather Armor)

He was somewhat unhappy at the moment. Firstly, the other party had disturbed his enjoyment of the food, and secondly, he actually wanted to kill some simpler new monsters that were not listed in the Monster Encyclopedia in a more discreet manner.

But just ordering a pork chop attracted other people's attention.

"What do you want from me? I'm just a newbie at the porcelain level."

Eric, the male Black Iron adventurer, said, "It's alright. Camilla and I have only just been promoted to Black Iron adventurers. Our strength is about the same."

Here's the thing: we saw a cemetery quest this morning and wanted to take it, but we're short-handed. Could you join our two-person team? It won't take long; we just need to complete this one quest.

"What exactly is the mission?"

Eric handed the task sheet to Lindsay.

--------

Mission: Investigate the situation at the cemetery outside Linchui Town. (Iron-level) Time limit: 4 days.

Reward: 4 silver coins, 4 points per person.

Note: There has been some recent activity at the cemetery outside Linchui Town. Please be prepared to investigate the situation!

--------

Linsel looked at the quest sheet, then at the two adventurers.

A similar mission, also involving two companions, with the same reward, somewhat like the mission the original owner did when she died shortly after transmigrating.

"This is a Black Iron-level mission. I'm no match for a newbie like me." He waved his hand in refusal.

"It's okay, this is just a reconnaissance mission, it's not difficult. If you encounter any monsters you can't defeat, just run away."

"Exactly, and if you're lucky, there might not be anything in the cemetery." The female adventurer Camilla gave a playful smile, trying to dispel Linsel's concerns.

"So what exactly do I need to do?"

"It's very simple. You just need to record the situation and write the task report. Neither of us is very good at writing."

Lindsay still found it somewhat suspicious. He said, "I don't trust you yet. How about this, you come to the tavern early tomorrow morning and do a simple White Porcelain level quest with me to get acquainted. Then I'll join your team."

"No problem," Eric and Camilla exchanged a glance and nodded. "Then we won't bother you any longer. See you tomorrow."

After they finished speaking, the two left the guild tavern.

Linsley stood up, walked over to the portly tavern owner, and whispered, "Boss, another ale, and tell me about these two adventurers, what's their background?"

The portly boss said, "They are newcomers who grew up in Linchui Town. They just advanced to the Black Iron rank a couple of days ago. They are very simple and honest young men and women, so you don't need to worry."

"Oh, thank you." Linsley returned to his seat.

Since there are no major issues, it might be a good idea to try teaming up with other players. Solo play can sometimes have its limitations.

However, we'll have to wait and see tomorrow for the specifics.

Just then, Lilia brought over the steak set meal.

Please enjoy your meal.

Looking at the fragrant, tender, and juicy venison steak, Lin Sai's stomach growled twice more.

Let's eat! Let's drink! We'll think about other things after we've finished eating!

……

The following morning, Linssey arrived at the guild tavern.

He carried a spear on his back, a short knife was already tucked into his waistband, and he was also equipped with a hand crossbow he had obtained from the bandits yesterday—a miniature crossbow that could be worn on the wrist.

I also had my corset repaired by the old tailor last night, spending some copper coins.

The status on the panel is also very good:

--------

Name: Lindsay

Life: 90/90

Armor: 40/40 (Waistband, Hood)

Strength: 5 Agility: 5 Constitution: 7

Perception: 7 Intelligence: 7 Charisma: 4

Specializations: [Swords: Proficient], [Wilderness Survival: Basic], [Spears: Beginner]

--------

Upon arriving at the quest board, one finds a dozen or so adventurers standing there.

Linsel observed that most of them had health points between 50 and 70, and were wearing cloth armor, cotton armor, and leather armor. There were also two bronze-level adventurers with bronze nameplates on their shoulders, wearing short chainmail, and their health points had reached 80.

Eric and Camilla were among them.

"Lince, you're here!" Camilla smiled when she saw Lince.

Eric pointed to the quest log and said, "How about this slime quest? It's a white porcelain level one, relatively easy. Let's do this one together."

--------

Mission: Go to the farm on the western outskirts of Linchui Town to clean up slimes (White Porcelain level). Deadline: 3 days.

Reward: 1 silver coin and 2 points per person.

Note: Some slimes have recently appeared on the farms west of Linchui Town. They are interfering with the farmers' rye cultivation. Please eliminate them!

--------

Linsset became interested.

Oh, a slime? It's a new monster, which means there are new monster abilities! Looks good.

"Okay, let's get ready to go now!"
