Chapter 131 My Selfies Are Ugly

"There are some more TV series projects coming up, from SMG." Chen Si gestured for him to look ahead.

Su Liu continued flipping through the pages and saw a familiar name.

My Sunshine

"Which company is the main investor in this drama?" he asked.

"Juku is a subsidiary of Huace Media."

"Can we get involved?"

Chen thought for a moment and said, "I'm afraid it will be a bit difficult. They don't lack funds, and Tomato TV is only involved as a producer." She looked at Su Liu's thoughtful expression and said, "This drama is indeed highly regarded in the industry. It's a big IP, and Juku is a leading idol drama production company."

"How about this, Sister Chen, could you contact Huace Media and tell them we have a project we'd like to co-develop with them, and we could exchange resources? While we're at it, let's get the male lead role for Ah Xian."

"You want them involved in the film project?"

"Forget about the movie," Su Liu said without hesitation. "Didn't Sister Xiaotong want to play a villain?" He wrote a line on the document as he spoke.

Chen Si read it aloud softly, "My terrifying wife."

Su Liu sighed inwardly. He had thought for a long time but couldn't think of a suitable villainous role for Mao Xiaotong, so he could only resort to this trump card.

"After I finish the outline, I'll send it to the script center and ask them to write two episodes as soon as possible. You can then take it and discuss it with Huace."

"This name... sounds like something out of a horror movie," Chen Si asked.

"Haha, you can go to the script center and see for yourself later."

The actors sitting in a row by the wall on the other side listened to the conversation between Su Liu and Chen Si, all with expressions of eager anticipation.

Only now did Chen Yao realize just how powerful Fuxing Films truly was. They had five film projects planned for the second half of the year, and at least two TV series. Such an astonishing rate of resource output—she had actually hesitated when signing the contract!

After Chen Si finished her report, she left Su Liu's office.

There was a moment of silence in the room. Peng Yuchang scratched the back of his head and suggested, "How about we have a meal together later?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Dilraba was the first to agree. She wasn't usually one to join in the fun, but with Mao Xiaotong not around, she had to shoulder the responsibility of a senior.

"Of course," she said, looking at Su Liu. "Teacher Su, what do you think?"

"OK."

So the group set off immediately.

"What shall we eat?" Su Liu asked.

The group rushed out of the company gate, like elementary school students on a school trip, and took over the entire sidewalk.

"We can both." Bai Yu and Peng Yuchang looked at each other, and Bai Mengyan nodded in agreement.

Chen Yao kicked at the pebbles on the road, echoing the others' voices.

As expected, everyone was still a bit reserved from their first meeting, their eyes scanning the signs on the street, and no one could make up their minds.

"Yaoyao, are you from Sichuan?" Reba asked.

"Yes." Chen Yao gave a shy smile.

"Really?!" Su Liu blurted out. "So, you don't actually have a Tyrannosaurus Rex hiding inside you, do you?"

"So, Ms. Su, you should be careful not to make her angry."

Peng Yuchang and Bai Mengyan, who were standing next to them, immediately shrank their shoulders and made an exaggerated backing motion.

"How scary, how scary!" Several people laughed and made a fuss.

"No! I have a very good temper." Chen Yao blushed slightly and waved her hands repeatedly to explain.

Su Liu suddenly realized that Tian Xiwei was clearly a cute girl with big eyes, but when she got excited, she would always say "I am" to herself.

So he immediately looked at Chen Yao with suspicion, "Really? That sounds very suspicious."

"Yes, yes." Everyone, including Bai Yu, nodded in agreement.

"Really!" Chen Yao said, somewhat amused and exasperated, "I've never even sworn at anyone in my entire life."

"That can't be right, they didn't even say 'fucking hell'?"

"No!"

Everyone stopped abruptly, their expressions freezing. Under the scrutiny of those gazes, Chen Yao felt her face flush, yet she couldn't help but want to laugh.

"What are you doing?" Su Liu said, shaking her head. "I can't believe it. You're not some foreign spy, are you?"

"What's so strange about it?" Dilraba said matter-of-factly. "I didn't say that."

"Your opinion is not accepted; you must have your own swear words over there."

The group started walking again and soon arrived at the International Plaza on Nanjing West Road. Compared to ordinary shopping malls, this place was surrounded by Grade A office buildings, making it feel more business-like and less bustling.

After strolling around the food court on B1, Chen Yao suddenly paused as they passed a huge floor sign.

Dilraba, who was walking beside her, turned around and followed her gaze. "Yaoyao, what's wrong?"

"Ah...no, it's that one..." Chen Yao pointed to the sign with her fingertip.

The names of the various shops were labeled on each floor. She was referring to the second floor, where there was a shop called "Hot and Spicy No. 1." Just by looking at the name, you could tell it was a hot pot restaurant.

"Hey, Teacher Su!" Reba called out to the person in front of her, "How about we go get hot pot?"

"Hot pot sounds great!" Bai Mengyan's eyes lit up. "I love hot pot the most!"

"You can handle spicy food pretty well too, can you?" Su Liu asked instinctively. He recalled the terror of being dominated by Tian Xiwei and Ran Xiaoqing, and his eye twitched involuntarily.

"I especially love spicy food, I can't live without it!" Bai Mengyan nodded vigorously, her tone very firm.

"Me too!" Chen Yao took a step forward, her eyes sparkling, as if she had suddenly found a kindred spirit.

"Wait a minute." Su Liu looked at the two enthusiastic girls and said to Bai Mengyan in a serious tone, "Your spiciness and her spiciness are different."

"Huh? What's different?"

You'll find out in a minute.

The group took the elevator to the second floor, where the entire floor was bustling with activity, as if a large number of people had suddenly appeared. The area around Hot & Spicy No. 1 was particularly lively, with a constant stream of voices.

"Hey? Look." Reba pointed to the life-size standee at the store entrance.

"Are they the ones who endorse this product?" Bai Mengyan asked, leaning closer.

The standee features Li Bingbing, Ren Quan, and Huang Xiaoming, the three of them posing for a steaming hot pot.

"It's not an endorsement." Bai Yu squatted down to look at the introduction under the sign. "This is their hot pot restaurant."

"Oh, it seems like a lot of celebrities like to open hot pot restaurants," Dilraba remarked.

"Hot pot restaurants are simple. There's not much of a technical barrier. You just put a pot there and let people cook for themselves. There aren't many requirements for the chefs," Su Liu said.

"No, that's not it!" Chen Yao waved her hand seriously, as if she had been introduced into a professional field. "A bad hot pot broth will get more and more bitter and salty as you eat it. A good hot pot won't; the flavor is consistent from beginning to end."

"Haha." Dilraba put her arm around Chen Yao's shoulder. "She's a hot pot expert."

"Alright, hot pot expert." Su Liu smiled and led the way inside. "You can give your opinion on how these three people's restaurant is later."

The group followed the waiter's guidance through the lobby and sat down in a medium-sized semi-open booth.

"Hey, let's take a group photo," Peng Yuchang said enthusiastically.

"Okay, Yao Yao, you come here," Reba said.

Chen Yao sat in the outermost position and took on the responsibility of taking photos.

"I look terrible in selfies," she muttered, taking out her phone, holding it high, and turning on the wide-angle lens.

Seeing this, everyone quickly huddled together.

"Is it ready?" Peng Yuchang asked.

"Wait a minute, my hand was shaking just now," Chen Yao said hastily.

Immediately afterwards, the phone emitted a series of "click-click" shutter sounds, taking more than a dozen photos in one go.

"That's about enough!"

Everyone crowded around to examine the photo.

"My God, what is this?!" Su Liu exclaimed after taking a look.

As the photos scrolled by, everyone in the images was distorted due to the edge distortion of the wide-angle lens and Chen Yao's unsteady hand.

At first glance, they look like a group of people, but upon closer inspection, they look like a group of monsters.

"I've already told you my selfies are ugly!" Chen Yao was practically in tears.

Dilraba laughed heartily, "Yaoyao, your photography skills are just as good as Teacher Su's!"

Su Liu's expression immediately hardened, and she looked unconvinced. "What did you say? I'm much better than her!"

"You two are evenly matched!" Dilraba rolled her eyes and added insult to injury without holding back.

Su Liu and Chen Yao exchanged a glance and couldn't help but laugh.
