Chapter 96 What is Yang Mi doing here?

Su Liu only participated in the script reading for half a day in the morning. After lunch, he was going to the studio to check out the interior sets that had been built.

The location shooting for the unnatural death research institute in the drama was taken at the Fudan University Biomedical Research Institute.

As for the interior, under Professor Lin's guidance, a professional autopsy room and offices for forensic doctors were set up in the photography studio.

"Director Su, the ventilation system, the location of the drainage channels, and the arrangement of various utensils are all done according to Professor Lin's requirements." The on-site coordinator came over and handed over a blueprint.

Su Liu surveyed the two studios. The office studio was a one-to-one replica of the one in the medical research institute, where the filming schedule was strictly controlled. So most of the filming took place in this studio, with a few key scenes shot on location at the research institute.

Su Liu walked around and checked to make sure the set was set up and everything was in order before leaving the studio.

When I returned to the reading room in the afternoon, I met an unexpected person.

The woman in front of me was wearing a short, puffy brown down jacket with a stand-up collar, the hem falling perfectly at her waist. She paired it with high-waisted, tight-fitting black trousers and thick-soled combat boots.

The visual effect of short shirts and long pants stretches the already well-proportioned lines vertically, making the legs appear ridiculously long.

"Ms. Yang...?"

Su Liu thought to himself, "Huh?" Why is Yang Mi here?

"Hello, Mr. Su." Yang Mi walked over confidently, a smile in his foxy eyes.

"Hello." Su Liu shook hands with her and asked, "Ms. Yang, what brings you here?"

Another lady? Yang Mi's lips stiffened for a second. The last time she argued with Mao Xiaotong, the other party was just as polite. These days, who would use such a form of address? Calling someone "beautiful lady" would be fine, wouldn't it?

"Madam is too formal, it makes me sound old." Yang Mi took a half step forward. "I'm a few years older than you, can you call me 'sister'?"

Why is she trying to get close to me right away? Su Liu immediately became wary, but she readily complied and called out, "Sister Mi."

"Teacher Su, could you say we became friends after a fight?"

Yang Mi tilted his head, his fox-like eyes brimming with a smile, revealing a natural and lively spirit.

"Who ever fought with you? They don't even respect you," Su Liu thought to himself, thinking to himself, "This woman is just deluding herself."

He twitched the corner of his mouth and replied with a perfunctory "Hehe".

Su Liu's attitude surprised Yang Mi. What did "hehe" mean? Shouldn't everyone be exchanging smiles, helping each other out, and then moving on to the next step?

If I just say "hehe", how do I start the next step?

Yang Mi could only nod and force an awkward smile, "Oh, Teacher Su, I came here specifically to thank you."

"Thank me?"

"Yes, thank you for letting Zhang Binbin, who is under my management, join the crew."

"Zhang...what?"

The bewilderment in Su Liu's tone was genuine.

Aside from a few main actors, the casting for each unit was handled by Chen Si's team. Su Liu checked on it once but didn't pay attention to it anymore. So, he really didn't know anything about Zhang Binbin.

"Zhang Binbin!" Yang Mi gritted her teeth, her tone becoming noticeably harsher. So, after all this time, her own artist really did get the role through his own audition?

"Oh—it was him, yes, that's right... um... so, Ms. Yang..."

"Call me 'sister'!"

The room fell silent. Su Liu stretched out a finger, gently scratched her nose, and called out, "Sister Mi."

"Phew—" Yang Mi breathed a sigh of relief. "What were you trying to say just now?"

"I wanted to say, Sister Mi, you really care about your artists. You even made a special trip over for such a small thing."

"Yeah, hehe...yes..." Yang Mi chuckled dryly, his eyes unfocused. "Actually...I didn't come here on purpose."

"Huh? You just said you came here specifically for this purpose."

Help! This was the first time in all his years in the business that Yang Mi had ever experienced the difficulty of being completely shut down.

At this moment, Mao Xiaotong came out of the reading room.

"Su Liu, you're back." She stood naturally beside Su Liu, her gaze falling on Yang Mi, her tone becoming polite, "Ms. Yang."

"She doesn't allow people to call her 'lady'," Su Liu quickly reminded her. "Call her 'sister'."

Yang Mi's eyes widened immediately. "I...you..."

Seeing Yang Mi's embarrassed look, Mao Xiaotong couldn't help but smile.

"Sister Mi, have you felt the power of our Teacher Su?"

"I've seen it all, I've seen it all."

"You've been the one dodging the question the whole time," Su Liu said, looking like she knew everything. "Just tell me straight, why did you come to me?"

Seeing that the two had something important to discuss, Mao Xiaotong said, "I'm going to the restroom. You two can continue your conversation." She patted Su Liu on the shoulder and turned to leave.

This script reading room was partitioned off directly from the Shanghai Film Studio's soundstage. In addition to script readings, it also facilitates actors' rehearsals in advance.

Su Liu and Yang Mi sat facing each other on the leather sofa in the reception area.

"Sister Mi, who would make a special trip for such a minor supporting role?"

"So, our great writer Su was just deliberately trying to shut me up with his words."

"Of course not." Su Liu leaned back. "It's just that you're not straightforward enough."

"Oh, then it really was my fault."

Su Liu nodded seriously, "Yes."

"Yes?" Yang Mi rolled her eyes, her pupils darting around.

"Then I'll get straight to the point." She pursed her lips and said, "My sister's studio has already become independent and will soon be upgraded to a company."

Why are you telling me this? Su Liu thought to herself, are we that close?

"Oh, and then?"

"Internally, we've discussed finding an investor to help increase the valuation, which will facilitate subsequent operations."

.

"You...you're not thinking of asking me to invest, are you?!"

"Of course not," Yang Mi retorted irritably. "How much money can you possibly invest?"

"You think I'm poor?"

"Listen to me first!"

"Oh, go ahead and tell me."

"We've talked to some investors, and in Shanghai we plan to contact Shangshi Pictures."

Shangshi Pictures. A wholly-owned subsidiary of Oriental Pearl New Media (SMG), and a major producer of films and television programs on Tomato TV.

"Hmm, hmm," Su Liu replied casually.

"I heard that CMC Capital Partners voted for you, is that right?"

"yes."

"Well, the reason I came here this time is to ask you for a favor," Yang Mi said, her voice becoming sweet and cloying as she turned slightly. "How about you act as a go-between for us and Shang Shi?"

The sudden display of coquettishness gave Su Liu goosebumps all over.

It's not surprising that Yang Mi wanted to find investors, nor is it surprising that he wanted to contact Shangshi Pictures, but it's extremely strange that he came to me for help!
