Chapter 134 Surprise Gift

As Suren looked at the two people, a sudden inspiration flashed through his mind.

He finally remembered the source of that feeling of familiarity he had when he met Boyd in the forest.

In that historical cycle within the distant trees, he encountered a death row inmate in the dungeon.

The mayor with the bushy beard had almost identical facial features to Boyd.

And that young death row inmate at the time looked a lot like Deputy Sheriff Kenny in front of us!

Both their positions and their relationship seem to be a continuation of the bond from their previous life.

But why were these two people drawn to this town?

Could it be the work of those seven children who were sacrificed?

In that historical flashback, I did indeed intervene to interrupt the ritual, save the seven children, and break the cycle.

But in reality, the tragedy had already occurred, and the children had already died tragically.

Perhaps the souls of these children have not yet dispersed, drawing the reincarnations of these rebels who once tried to save them back to the town, hoping they can end this nightmare that has spanned centuries.

Although this guess is somewhat bizarre, it is the most reasonable explanation he can think of at the moment.

Suren nodded, seeing the expectant looks in their eyes.

"If nothing unexpected happens, you are free."

Nicole agreed, saying, "The cycle of history has been broken, the demon at the source is dead, and the barrier that trapped the town has disappeared."

Boyd and Kennedy were delighted.

The two exchanged a glance, turned and rushed out, loudly urging the townspeople to pack their things and prepare to leave this awful place.

Soon, a convoy of various dilapidated cars had been assembled.

With expressions of excitement and apprehension, everyone drove their vehicles slowly out of the town along the main road.

When the first few cars in the convoy reached the edge of the town, they should have seen the same kind of maze-like scene as usual.

But this time, it was as if it passed through a thin film and disappeared into the road.

The car following closely behind panicked upon seeing this.

"Don't panic!! This is normal! Change is always better than no change at all. We can get out now!"

Boyd, holding a walkie-talkie, loudly reassured everyone.

With his assurance, the convoy regained order and drove out of the town one vehicle after another.

Suren sat in Nicole's bread cart, following at the back of the convoy.

The two chatted about the design and ideas of the new weapon while enjoying the scenery.

As their bread cart was about to pass through that invisible spatial barrier.

Suren glanced at it through the rearview mirror.

Behind us, the scenery of the town was gradually blurring in the mist.

But in the middle of that previously deserted street, seven small figures holding hands appeared out of nowhere.

They stood there quietly, watching the departing convoy.

The van jolted violently as it passed through the barrier, and the surrounding environment suddenly opened up, revealing a flat highway.

No longer is it that oppressive small town; the morning sun shines down, dazzling yet carrying a long-lost warmth.

Most of the convoy ahead disappeared, while the remaining residents, now free, honked their horns wildly, their cheers echoing across the highway.

Suren glanced at the roadside sign, which read, "Welcome to San Andreas."

He wasn't far from Los Santos, and this random teleportation saved him a lot of travel time.

"Looks like I'm lucky, they even offer pick-up and drop-off service."

Suren turned to Nicole, who was driving, and said, "Want to come back to the office with me for a couple of days to rest? Virgil's back too."

Nicole's initial excitement vanished the moment she heard the name "Virgil".

She shivered and shook her head repeatedly.

"Forget it! I can't stand that cold, aloof man. I'll dump you in the city; you'll have to figure out how to get back yourself."

Suren chuckled; Virgil's aura of keeping strangers at bay was indeed not very likable.

He retrieved his phone from Silent Hill, and upon turning it on, the screen displayed a series of unread messages.

The vast majority of the messages came from Patty, with the occasional message or two from Carrie.

Opening Patty's chat window revealed an extremely rich collection of messages—from the initial routine inquiries about her whereabouts, to the unreasonable demands in the middle, and finally to a series of threats and complaints, with her resentment practically overflowing from the screen.

Carrie's messages were much gentler, consisting mostly of simple greetings and everyday updates.

Suren leaned back in the passenger seat: "Just finished taking care of some things. Don't worry, I brought you some good stuff back."

My phone vibrated as soon as I sent the message.

Patty immediately replied with a "staring at you" emoji, along with a warning: "I'll be waiting for you at the agency! If you dare lie to me, you're dead!"

evening.

Su Lun pushed open the door of the firm.

In the living room, Carrie and Patty were snuggled up in his bed.

The two girls huddled together, holding their phones and looking at something, occasionally letting out a soft giggle.

They both looked up when they heard the door open.

The moment Patty saw Suren, her expression lit up with joy. She jumped up from the sofa, rushed to Suren, and gave him a hug.

"You're finally back!"

Patty, holding his hand, began to feel around expectantly, saying, "Quick, quick, let me see the present!"

Suren's lips twitched slightly, and the slight emotion of reunion that had just risen in her heart vanished instantly.

"Where is Virgil?"

"A blue Dante? He went out at noon and hasn't come back yet."

Patty recalled.

"—What kind of ridiculous title is that?"

Suren's pupils dilated slightly; he was deeply shocked.

Who would dare say that outside?

The moment it opened its mouth, it was chopped into minced meat.

"What's wrong? I think he likes it quite a bit."

Patty waved her hand and stretched it out to Suren again. "Don't change the subject! Hurry up, where's the gift you mentioned?!"

Suren glanced at her, feeling utterly emboldened by the favoritism she received.

He walked to the coffee table, and a thought struck him.

"Splash!"

A large pile of antique books and various parchment scrolls fell onto the table, raising a cloud of dust.

Patty's radiant smile froze instantly.

She glanced at the stack of books thicker than her forearm, then looked up at Suren, and slowly typed a question mark: "What's this?"

"These are authentic magic books that I painstakingly collected for you after making a special trip to New Orleans."

Suren blew the dust off the books and said earnestly, "Study hard! This is something others would give anything for."

Patty pointed at the pile of books, her face filled with disbelief: "That's it? That's all?"

"Yes, knowledge is power. Isn't that the best gift for you college students?"

Su Lun nodded seriously. Who doesn't like to give test papers or a few "Five-Year College Entrance Examination, Three-Year Simulation" books as gifts?

"Suren————"

Patty gritted her teeth and grabbed the broom leaning against the wall.

She had been eagerly anticipating what exquisite jewelry it might be, or a limited-edition souvenir she had bought somewhere.

As it turned out, this straight man actually brought her back a textbook weighing half a ton!

"Die! Take this Lowell Style: Broomstick Version Million Thrust!"

After playing around for a while, Patty collapsed into Carrie's arms.

She glared at Suren, her gaze sweeping over him, and suddenly asked, "Wait, where's your coat?"

She then realized that when Suren returned, she was only wearing a shirt; her coat was gone.

Suren's expression stiffened slightly, but she quickly regained her composure.

""

"Oh, that outfit. It got damaged in the battle, so I threw it away."

Patty squinted, her face full of suspicion: "Really? You didn't just take it off to show off and drape it over some random woman, did you?"

"For example, if you're on a date on a pedestrian bridge and it's too windy, you say you have a coat, and then—"

Suren was startled. Was this a woman's innate sixth sense?!

Horror!

"What kind of nonsense are you thinking about all day long?"

He flicked Patty's forehead. "I'm on important business."

Just as Patty was covering her forehead, preparing to continue questioning, Suren's cell phone suddenly rang.

He pulled out his phone as if he had been granted a pardon.

"Suren, I've found a clue about that piece of meat with the ouroboros mark."
