People are scared in America, my uncle is Dante
Chapter 192 Passion
Chapter 192 Passion
night.
A primeval forest somewhere on the border between Virginia and Washington.
No one could have imagined that a guest would arrive in this remote place that evening.
Suren sat on a treetop, and not far in front of him was a vast and luxurious manor.
Under the cover of the branches and the night, he surveyed the Armitage Estate not far away, his brow furrowed slightly.
Outside the manor, there were only a few security personnel in black uniforms, leading a few Dobermans, patrolling their fixed posts. Apart from that, there were no other security forces.
According to normal human thinking, Armitage should at least have raised the level of defense after learning that his squad had been wiped out.
Moreover, he hadn't made a move all day, giving the other side ample time to gather information about his movements.
But now, even though Suren has already gotten right under the nose of the manor, he hasn't even detected a single sentry.
"So confident?"
He looked at this unusual scene and raised an eyebrow slightly.
The manor was filled with luxury cars of all colors, the buildings were illuminated by intermittent lights, and people moved about, while melodious classical music drifted in intermittently.
Suren tapped the button-sized camera on her chest twice.
This was something that Chief Arthur and Charlie asked him to bring before he set off.
They said that this way, they could sit in front of the screens at the base and provide him with some real-time intelligence support.
"Charlie, what's going on with this banquet?"
Suren asked.
"This is impossible!"
Charlie's bewildered voice rang in his ears, "I just looked at all the surveillance footage and information from Virginia and Washington, even Armitage's PR schedule."
"No information was found regarding any large banquets being held."
"Given the size and social standing of their family, even the most private gatherings would inevitably leak some information through the security system."
"Perhaps this is just a small gathering within their family circle?"
Charlie stopped what he was doing and guessed.
"But no matter what, Suren, let's wait until later. Taking action now would have too great an impact."
Suren did not respond, but simply watched everything in the manor silently.
Armitage Estate, banquet hall.
The sound of violins flowed through the air, and waiters in tuxedos moved through the crowd carrying trays.
Collins stood in the crowd, wearing an ill-fitting suit and holding a glass of champagne.
As the darling daughter of tonight's leading man, Dean, Rose brought home her first Black boyfriend.
He naturally became the focus of everyone's attention.
Every now and then, a few men and women in formal attire would come up to him, raise their glasses to him with a smile, exchange a few words, pinch his muscles, leave a compliment, and then leave.
Faced with these enthusiastic elders and relatives, Collins could only maintain a polite smile and nod in agreement.
Although the group was very friendly to him, he always felt inexplicably uneasy.
Collins felt as if the magnificent banquet hall was a cage, making it hard for him to breathe.
He wanted to pull Los away immediately, but since this was his first time meeting Los's parents, he couldn't just make a scene.
Finally, taking advantage of the fact that the elders' discussion had gone astray, Collins made up an excuse and quickly walked out of the side door of the banquet hall into the garden on one side of the manor.
Breathing in the fresh air, he took a deep breath and felt a sense of relief.
However, he did not notice what was happening behind him as he left the banquet hall.
The smiles on the faces of the white people who had just been flattering and laughing with each other vanished instantly, and they all turned to stare at the spot where Collins had disappeared.
Collins took a slightly deformed cigarette out of his pocket and put it in his mouth.
Just as he was about to find a lighter to light the fire, he looked up and saw a Black gardener pruning branches with scissors.
The other person stood not far from him, staring intently at him.
Collins looked at his fellow Black man and felt a long-lost sense of kinship.
Hey man, what's up?
But to his utter surprise, the gardener seemed completely oblivious to what he was saying.
The other party did not respond at all, nor did they engage in any of the interactions typically associated with Black people.
This reaction sent chills down Collins' spine; these people gave him a very strange feeling.
Judging from their appearance, they are indeed Black.
However, their walking style, clothing style, and accent all had a white flavor.
It's like forcibly inserting the soul of a white person into the body of a black person.
"How is this possible?"
Collins shook his head, trying to stop thinking about all this nonsense. He just wanted to get through the night as soon as possible so he could take Los back to Virginia first thing tomorrow morning and continue their peaceful life.
"Pfft, a flame shot up from the lighter."
Just as he lowered his head to light a cigarette.
A hand suddenly reached out and snatched the cigarette from his mouth.
"Collins, didn't you promise me you'd quit smoking?"
Collins paused for a moment, then turned to look.
Tonight, Rose wore a red evening gown that accentuated her curvaceous figure, making her look incredibly sexy.
She held the cigarette between her fingers, looking at Collins with a worried expression.
"I'm sorry, Los."
Collins sighed and put his arm around his girlfriend's shoulder. "I'm just... not quite used to the atmosphere here."
The two walked side by side out of the veranda and strolled along a cobblestone path to a small pavilion in the corner of the garden.
"Loss, I always feel that there's something wrong with the way your relatives and friends look at me."
Collins sat on the wooden chair and voiced his concerns, "And your servants, their behavior is strange too. In short, I'm very uncomfortable here."
When Ross heard his complaints and saw the other man's tired face, a pang of heartache flashed in his eyes.
She held Collins' head tightly in her arms, comforting him, "It's okay, darling. They're probably just curious about you."
Los gently pressed Collins's head with his fingers, his voice soft yet alluring: "The party will be over soon, and we can get some rest after they leave."
"Tonight—I'll make it up to you."
Collins felt the warmth of his girlfriend's embrace and listened to her ambiguous words, which calmed his restlessness and unease.
Although he still felt that the manor was eerie, his girlfriend was so understanding that he couldn't continue to complain.
Perhaps it was because it was my first time meeting my parents, and I was too tense and sensitive?
"Loss."
Collins looked up into his girlfriend's eyes, his tone sincere and firm, "My parents are gone, and now—you are my only family."
"I will never abandon you in this lifetime."
Upon hearing this heartfelt confession, Los lowered his head in emotion.
After a long while, the two parted ways.
Los looked at Collins and said, "Since you're not happy staying here, let's go back."
Collins was stunned for a moment, then quickly sat up: "What?"
"Let's go home."
Los took his hand. "Let's go back to our little apartment."
Collins could hardly believe his ears.
He thought Los would advise him to be more patient, but to his surprise, Los was willing to end the family dinner that was specially held for the two of them early in order to take care of his feelings.
"After the elders finished saying goodbye, we packed our things and left."
Los cupped his face and said softly.
Collins hugged Los tightly, all his doubts and anxieties vanishing in that instant: "I love you."
Los smiled and gently pushed him away: "Then you go back to your room and pack your things. I'll go to the lobby to deal with those elders, and I'll come find you right away."
