People are scared in America, my uncle is Dante
Chapter 24 Ready to Eat
"Miksi was probably referring to the fire that broke out a couple of days ago at an abandoned, century-old church right next to this road."
"After the fire was extinguished, the cops found hundreds of corpses inside, which were hung on the basement walls as decorations."
"The scene was so bad it made some of the cops sick of it."
"That's right!"
Mikey snapped her fingers, pleased with her boyfriend's cooperation.
She lowered her voice mysteriously: "It is said that those corpses underwent special preservation treatment, and all their internal organs were removed."
"The most outrageous thing is that there was a body inside with intact skin, but the forensic doctor determined that it died sometime in the last century!"
"A corpse from the last century? Its internal organs removed?"
Patty, who had been looking out the window, turned her head, a hint of curiosity flashing in her eyes.
Having followed Dante since childhood, she had witnessed many demons and possessed an exceptional sensitivity to these supernatural phenomena.
"Really? Corpses from the last century can be preserved?"
Seeing that his words had captured Patty's attention, Brad immediately replied, "Of course it's true. My uncle's son works for the state police, and he said it himself..."
"Hey everyone! Look at that!"
Seeing that the topic was no longer about him, Scott suddenly pointed to the roadside and shouted, forcibly interrupting the group's discussion.
Patty looked in the direction he was pointing and saw a silver sedan crashed diagonally into a tree trunk by the roadside.
"Were you in a car accident?"
Brad stepped on the brakes, and the RV slowly pulled over to the side of the road.
Out of curiosity, and to check if there were any injured people, the five of them got out of the car and slowly approached the wrecked vehicle.
This is a private car, and apart from some fallen leaves and dents on the hood, there isn't much dust.
It's clear that the accident happened not long ago, possibly even today.
Through the broken car window, Patty saw that the car keys hadn't been removed, and there was a cup of coffee, mostly spilled, on the passenger seat.
Everything seemed normal, except that the person was missing.
"Hello! Is anyone there?"
Scott tapped on the car window.
"Stop shouting, there's no one here."
Kevin adjusted his glasses and pointed shakily to the roof of the car: "You...you look up there."
The group looked up and gasped.
A huge hole had been torn open directly above the driver's side of the car.
The edges of the breach in the roof were concave, as if something had fallen from the sky and violently pierced through the metal roof.
Then, like playing a claw machine, they pulled the person in the driver's seat directly out of the car.
"Take a look at this."
Patty's voice drew everyone's attention.
She pointed to the car's obviously deformed rear bumper, "There are clear signs of an impact here."
"Please, anyone with eyes can see this was a car accident."
Scott shrugged and said.
As Patty stared blankly at the dent, a sentence that Suren had once said unconsciously came to mind—
Never put all your eggs in one basket.
She never quite understood the meaning of that sentence before, but now...
It seems like she's realized something?
Patty stood up and observed the trampled weeds under the car. Following the tracks back to the road, she found a long, winding skid mark extending from the distance to this spot.
So this sentence means that we shouldn't just focus on the result; the process is also important?
She turned around and addressed the crowd surrounding the car:
"Look at the skid marks along the way; this car accident wasn't an accident, it was deliberate."
Patty's expression turned serious. "Someone was driving a car that rammed into this car from behind and pushed it forward, causing it to lose control and crash into this tree."
"Then, the unconscious driver was grabbed off the roof of the car by something."
As she spoke, she suddenly looked towards the forest not far away, and a feeling of being watched by predators made her hair stand on end.
This feeling was not unfamiliar to her.
She used to have this feeling whenever she was targeted by a devil or assassin, when she was used as a shield for the heir to a wealthy family.
"We need to get out of here right away."
Patty looked at Kevin, who was still in a daze, and said calmly, "Kevin, your radio is going to come in handy."
"I need you to keep trying to call the police, contact the outside world, and tell them what's happening here."
Whether there are demons or criminal gangs, the current situation is too dangerous for these students.
We must leave immediately.
Upon hearing Patty's analysis, Mikey and Brad exchanged a glance, both seeing the fear in each other's eyes, and nodded in agreement.
"Wait, wait!"
Scott jumped out, spreading his hands exaggeratedly, as if he had heard a joke:
"How could that be? Patty, have you been watching too many horror movies?"
"Our America is vast and sparsely populated, where would we find so many psychopathic killers? This is just a regular car accident."
"Perhaps the driver has already been rescued, but the vehicle just hasn't been moved yet."
Patty didn't argue, and didn't even bother to say another word to him. She simply turned around and walked towards the RV.
Suren once said, "Don't argue with people who have underdeveloped cerebellum and completely underdeveloped brains, because they will drag your IQ down to their level and then beat you with their rich experience."
Kevin glanced at Scott, who looked incredulous, and then at Patty, who had already walked away. As the least noticeable member of the team, he didn't want to offend either of them.
But out of fear of unknown dangers, he gritted his teeth, lowered his head, and quickly followed Patty, not daring to make eye contact with the others.
"Hey, Scott..."
Seeing this, Mikey gently advised, "What you say makes sense, it might just be an accident, but this place is indeed quite eerie, and there's no signal. For safety's sake, let's get going. There's no need to waste time here."
Although she felt Patty was right, she had to play the role of peacemaker in order to save face for her benefactor.
"Yeah, yeah, getting to the campsite early means we can have a barbecue."
Brad nodded in agreement.
"Tch, a bunch of cowards."
Seeing that no one supported him, Scott could only curse under his breath.
He felt his authority was being challenged, but he couldn't retaliate, so he could only sullenly kick the car next to him and reluctantly get back into his vehicle.
The engine roared, the RV shook, and then slowly started moving again.
Unlike the atmosphere at the beginning, which was filled with loud music and laughter, the carriages now felt somewhat dull, even with music playing, and everyone seemed preoccupied.
Patty sat by the window, her fingers rapidly tapping on her phone screen.
[Lowell Jr.: Suren.]
[Lowell Jr.: We're in trouble. There's been a car accident here, and I have a bad feeling about it.]
Location has been sent.
On the screen, the sent message spun around for a while before a red exclamation mark appeared at the end of the message.
[Sending failed.]
