People are scared in America, my uncle is Dante

Chapter 26 The Beginning of Tragedy

Patty sipped her juice; her phone had already shut down due to low battery.

The chilling feeling of being watched grew stronger, making her somewhat uneasy.

She longed to return to the RV; the enclosed environment at least offered her some sense of security. But then she remembered some law that Suren often repeated—

Never be alone.

She didn't know where the other person had heard all this from, but the other person had never lied to her, so she could only endure the chill and stay with the others.

Patty cautiously observed her surroundings, the image of Suren appearing in her mind.

If Suren were here, he would definitely take the initiative to search the surrounding area, right?

You might even be able to have a heart-to-heart talk with some wild demons.

The comical image of the other person chatting with the devil, their arms around each other's shoulders, flashed through her mind, which relaxed her tense nerves a little.

"Hey! What are you thinking about?"

Scott came over with a can of beer. "Here, have a drink to calm your nerves, don't spoil the fun."

"I don't drink." Patty glanced at him, her tone leaving no room for argument. "And stay away from me."

Scott's smile froze on his face, a hint of hostility flashing in his eyes.

Being rejected again, especially by the girl you like to your face, would make anyone feel embarrassed.

"Scott, we're all students, having some juice is fine."

Seeing this, Mikey quickly stepped in to smooth things over, even though she was also holding a can of beer.

Just then, Brad, who had been silent all along, swayed to his feet. His face was flushed, and he let out a burp: "I'm going to take a dump."

He patted the grass clippings off his backside and walked towards a large tree on the outskirts, disappearing behind it.

The campfire crackled in the silent darkness as Kevin sat nearby fiddling with the radio.

Time passed second by second.

Brad hasn't come back yet.

"This guy, does it really take him that long to pee?"

Miksie put down her beer with some unease and looked in the direction of the big tree. "Could he have passed out? He's always had a very low alcohol tolerance."

"I'll go take a look."

"Wait a moment."

Patty called out to her, picked up her bag, and said, "Let's all go together."

Seeing this, Scott scoffed, "I'm not going to smell that urine; maybe he has a prostate problem?"

Kevin remained silent.

The two arrived behind the big tree.

There was no one behind the tree, only a puddle of water and a sneaker lying askew in the grass.

"Brad?!"

Mikey picked up the shoe, looked around, and shouted, "Brad? Where are you? Stop joking! This isn't funny at all!"

Before she could finish speaking, a slight noise suddenly came from the bushes not far from Mikey.

"Come out here, Brad!"

Mikey walked impatiently toward the bushes.

The dark bushes inexplicably reminded Mikey of various horrific murder cases.

Although she felt fear, she was mostly frustrated by Brad's childish prank.

Patty, who was following behind her, reached into her bag.

Just as Mikey was nearing the edge of the bushes—

"Wow!!!"

A dark shadow suddenly leaped out of the bushes, baring its fangs and claws as it pounced on Mikey.

"ah!!"

Mikey screamed as the shadowy figure pulled her to the ground.

Almost the instant the shadowy figure darted out, Patty had already drawn a pocket pistol from her bag and aimed it at the figure.

But after she saw the shadowy figure clearly, she quickly put the gun away.

"Hahahaha! Were you scared, kids?!"

Brad kissed a still-shaken Mikey on the cheek. "You guys are such cowards! Look how scared you are, your face is all white!"

"Brad!!"

Mikey snapped out of her daze, punched her boyfriend hard in the chest, and cried out in a mix of shame and anger, "You jerk! This isn't funny at all! Are you trying to scare me to death?!"

"Okay, okay, it's my fault, it's my fault."

Brad picked up Mikey, straightened her disheveled clothes, and offered a half-hearted apology, clearly pleased with his prank.

"Actually, I just saw a rabbit..."

"call out--"

Before he could finish speaking, a whooshing sound suddenly rang out from behind him.

In Mikey's sight, Brad's face, which was still wearing a wicked smile, suddenly froze.

A line of blood slashed open his neck.

"Pfft—"

The scalding liquid instantly sprayed all over Mikey's face.

Mikey instinctively closed her eyes; the warmth of the blood made her think she was washing her face with hot water.

She reached up and touched the sticky liquid on her face, a bloody smell filling her nostrils.

"What...thing?"

She opened her eyes somewhat blankly.

Before me lay a headless body, its hands still unconsciously touching its neck.

On the grass at my feet.

Brad's head lay there quietly, his wicked smile frozen on his face, his lifeless eyes staring straight at Mikey.

Time seemed to stand still at that moment.

"ah!!!"

The next second, a heart-wrenching scream pierced the night sky, startling the crows in the forest into flight.

Patty raised her flashlight and saw a humanoid creature completely covered by black cloth strips standing behind Brad's body.

It was wearing a cowboy hat, and under the bright light, its face, hidden in the darkness, slowly rose.

His face was as rough as tree bark, with dark skin and sharp teeth. His nose was sunken, with a slit in the middle that opened and closed slightly.

It made no attempt to dodge Patty's flashlight.

It even squinted its eyes, raised the corners of its mouth, and gave Patty a smug smile, as if it had successfully pulled off a mischievous prank.

"SHit!!"

Just then, Scott and Kevin, who rushed over after hearing the screams, witnessed this hellish scene.

Scott looked at the headless corpse on the ground and the eerie smiling monster. He had originally wanted to show some manly courage, but he turned around and ran away.

"Wait for me, Scott!"

Kevin's face turned ashen, and his legs trembled.

He kept turning back to look at the monster and Patty.

The instinct for survival ultimately prevailed over emotions, and she stumbled and followed Scott toward the RV.

"Don't just stand there! Mikey, get up!!"

Patty ignored the two men. Suren had said that when people are about to die, they usually only care about their own survival.

She grabbed the somewhat disoriented Mikey and forced her to walk outside.

"Brad... Brad, he..."

Mikey's eyes were vacant, and she kept muttering to herself.

"He's dead! If we don't run, we'll all die!!"

Patty yelled and used all her strength to support her terrified friend as they ran towards the RV.

Just as Patty and Mikey were crossing the camp, they saw Scott and Kevin standing stiffly not far away.

Looking past the two people, I saw a person standing on the roof of the RV.

It stood there, looking down at the group from the roof of the car.

"A monster...a monster!!!"

Scott screamed, his legs buckled and he collapsed to the ground, crawling backward on his hands and knees.

Patty stood still, her azure eyes silently watching the monster.

She had a feeling that the monster was probably after her, and that Brad was just an innocent victim.
