People are scared in America, my uncle is Dante
Chapter 35 The Beginning of the Storm
The crystal chandelier overhead cast a warm yellow light.
Richard Braddock sat on a luxurious leather sofa, gently swirling a glass of whiskey in his hand.
"Mr. Dean, my son, Scott has already gone to approach that girl named Patty."
Richard asked tentatively, "But is that woman's body really worth such a high price?"
The old man, referred to as Dean, looked up and smiled. "That's not something you need to worry about, Mr. Richard."
"Our Armitage family possesses top-notch neurosurgical techniques and specialized psychotherapy, dedicated to finding the perfect vessel for the world's most important figures."
Dean took a sip of the red wine in his glass and said calmly, "So, some things are better left unasked; it's better for both of us."
Richard broke out in a cold sweat upon hearing this. Just as he was about to explain, his personal cell phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated.
His expression changed slightly, and he glanced apologetically at Dean. Only after the old man nodded slightly did he answer the phone.
A few seconds later, Richard jumped up from the sofa: "What? Say that again?! Didn't he go on a trip with his classmates?"
"Mr. Braddock, please calm down. Young Master Scott was involved in a serious car accident on East Route 9. So far, only the wreckage of the car and three bodies have been found at the scene..."
The sheriff on the other end of the phone spoke cautiously, after all, the other party was a major taxpayer in the state.
"And your son, Scott, is missing..."
Richard staggered, nearly dropping his phone.
Based on his understanding, he knew that in this land, disappearance often meant death, only the body had not been found.
If this were truly just an extortion attempt, the blackmail call would have come much faster than a police report.
"Have you figured out who did it? What about his classmates?" Richard roared, suppressing his anger.
Scott was his designated sole heir, but now the police are telling him that his son died under mysterious circumstances on a highway.
"Mr. Richard, you have to understand our situation. There are no traffic cameras on that section of the interstate, and there isn't even a cell phone signal."
"Moreover, the crime scene is on the border, involving interstate jurisdiction, and the department's current budget simply cannot approve a large-scale search and rescue operation..."
"Bullshit! A bunch of useless trash!"
Richard cursed angrily, veins bulging on his forehead.
When these people ask for money at union meetings and banquets, they all have to say the nicest things.
Now that his only son is in trouble, these idiots dare to pass the buck with their damn jurisdiction and budget.
Hearing the angry voice on the other end of the phone, the sheriff quickly said, "But we didn't come away empty-handed."
"The only survivor at the scene was a girl named Patty Lovell, who had recently been seen in Poho County with an unidentified Asian youth by her side."
"Find them... I need to know all the details."
After saying that, Richard promptly hung up the phone.
Since he couldn't rely on these gigolo bureaucrats, he had plenty of money to hire professionals from the underworld to find those two people.
……
"Hey handsome, have you been this quiet the whole way?"
A spacious and comfortable van was driving along a mountain road.
The carriage was filled with perfumes of various scents.
Whitney leaned slightly forward, her loose tank top barely concealing the large expanse of her white skin, revealing a deep, unfathomable cleavage:
"Or are you saying you're not interested in bad girls like us who study art?"
Suren leaned back in the comfortable airline chair, looking languid.
Through casual conversation along the way, he had already thoroughly investigated the backgrounds of the women in the car.
Apart from the blonde bombshell named Exelna sitting at the back of the carriage...
The other three girls are all students from the same university's art department.
They took advantage of the spring break to go out together in search of inspiration for sketching.
Exelna was just a professional model hired by the school for figure painting, and it was she who recommended this trip to the small town.
The one now launching an offensive against Suren is Whitney, the long-haired girl with the most outgoing personality among the three students sitting opposite him.
As they got into the conversation, Whitney kicked off her high heels, revealing her shapely, white legs crossed over each other. Her toes, painted with black nail polish, brushed against Suren's trouser hem intentionally or unintentionally.
Suren remained calm, naturally shifting her leg to the side, and politely smiled, saying, "Sorry, I'm just more interested in how to make money."
Seeing that the handsome man in front of her was indifferent to her proud physique, Whitney was not discouraged at all. On the contrary, she found his indifferent attitude to be very challenging.
She giggled, pointed to the girl sitting quietly reading a book, and teased, "Okay, if you don't like my type, you can look at Beth more."
Upon hearing this, Beth looked up, closed the book in her hand, and glanced helplessly at her best friend.
Whitney ignored her and leaned closer to Suren, saying in a slightly exaggerated tone:
"Beth is a low-key billionaire. How rich is she? Probably rich enough to easily buy several private islands as her backyard."
"If you can win her over, you won't have to worry about making money for the rest of your life."
Hearing this, Beth frowned slightly. She always kept a low profile, and it made her very uncomfortable to casually reveal her financial situation to a stranger she had just met on this remote highway where she knew no one.
However, her best friend has always been like this, completely unguarded in unfamiliar environments and with strangers, so she couldn't say much.
"Buying a few small islands? That sounds like... a very tasteful investment."
Upon hearing this, Suren's attitude towards Beth visibly warmed up.
He deftly pulled a business card from his pocket and handed it over: "Let's get to know each other formally."
"Surren, specializing in private investigations, also handles various high-end security and non-natural incidents. Ms. Beth, if you encounter any special trouble in the future, please feel free to contact me."
Beth was caught off guard by Suren's sudden enthusiasm.
She hesitantly took the business card, only to see that the firm's name was "Devil May Cry." She racked her brains but couldn't recall ever hearing of it.
Beth could only smile politely: "Thank you for your kindness. If I need anything... I will."
Axelna, who was at the back of the carriage, watched Suren's reaction and a barely perceptible sneer flashed in her eyes.
Patty, sitting next to Suren, curled her lip, crossed her arms, and muttered to herself, "A bunch of big-breasted, brainless women."
"Guys, I think we should be there by now."
At this moment, Lorna, the buck-toothed girl who was driving, suddenly shouted loudly, interrupting their conversation.
Ahead, an ancient complex of buildings comes into view amidst the mountains.
