Archer's Adventure Manual

Chapter 118: Preliminary Rounds

Meyer stood on the field, taking deep breaths; it was clear he was very nervous.

For a young man like him, Loran's experience is quite good, but compared to other geniuses, Loran's experience seems somewhat lacking.

So Loran understood what he needed to do: to cheer on Mierte and help him perform to his full potential, and that was enough.

"Don't be nervous, just practice as usual. You're already much better than your peers! Just believe in yourself," Loran said.

Meyer nodded. "Understood! I'll relax."

After waiting for a while, the competition officially began. The rules were pretty much the same, and it mainly came down to the hit rate.

Meyer raised his bow and shot. Ten arrows were fired, two of which hit the bullseye, and seven of them landed in the bullseye, resulting in a nine-ring score – a very good result.

"Phew..." Mylt exhaled, smiling at Loran. "I did it. No mistakes. I think this is the best result!"

The spectators were generous with their applause and cheers, all offering their blessings for Meert's outstanding performance.

Loran nodded slightly, "Yes, do your best and leave no regrets, that's the best way."

......

The next day, Loran went to participate in the preliminary rounds in Rockfall Town. Looking at the slightly gloomy sky, he never forgot the gloom that had enveloped him by the monster horde that day.

The town of Rockfall is like a calm lake, but beneath the surface, undercurrents are surging. The current peace may be the calm before the storm.

At this critical juncture, despite the seemingly grand wedding ceremony being held, Loran was also very uncertain about the outcome.

The preliminary rounds were held at the manor, and most of the participants were nobles, though there were also those like Elfin and Loran who got in through connections.

The arrogance of the nobility prevented them from seeking out commoners of lowly status.

The shooting range used for the competition was not large, and there were a few scattered nobles sitting around watching. Nobles were ultimately a minority, while the majority of the town's population consisted of commoners and serfs.

But these people are all busy working now and haven't been invited, so the number of onlookers is naturally smaller.

The contestants who arrived early were all doing their warm-up exercises, and Loran also adjusted his state, preparing to face the challenge.

"Hey, I didn't expect to see you here. That's quite a surprise." A not-so-pleasant voice came to Loran's ears.

Loran was startled and turned around to see the golden-haired elven ranger standing next to him—Elfin.

Loran hadn't expected this elven ranger, who seemed to be lurking in the shadows, to approach him. He asked curiously, "Elfin? I don't think we're that close."

Elfin shrugged. "But you know me, and I know you. Doesn't that count as familiarity? Besides, we even spent time together in Inada Village before! You could say we've been through thick and thin together!"

Loran frowned, recalling Brian, whom he had conjured with magic that night, and sneered, "If there's nothing else, go and prepare for the match."

Elfin chuckled, "I hope to meet you in future matches. Don't disappoint me! I'm really looking forward to seeing how you grow!"

"You..." Loran looked at Elfin, who had turned and left, wanting to say something, but not knowing what to say. This guy was really baffling.

However, judging from his current behavior, Elfin doesn't seem to have much hostility towards him. If they did, they wouldn't have remained completely inactive until now.

But he remembered that at the beginning, Elfin should have been very hostile towards him...

Loran had not forgotten the watchful gaze he had received when he first arrived in Rockfall Town—a gaze that was undoubtedly from Elfin.

Later on, this guy paid much less attention to me...

Loran shook his head, putting all these things out of his mind. Now, all he had to do was prepare for the upcoming match and be wary of the hidden dangers lurking beneath the surface.

The preliminary rounds have begun, and there are many participants—more than thirty people in sight, and everyone's expression is full of confidence.

"Welcome everyone to the archery competition hosted by the Warren Nobles! This competition aims to provide a platform for learning and exchange, offering a competitive stage for everyone to showcase their archery skills!"

"Everyone must remember during the competition that friendship comes first, competition second. Please avoid causing unnecessary conflict. I now declare the competition officially open!"

The person in charge of introducing the competition began to explain the rules of the first round of events.

"The competition is conducted in batches. The first round is ordinary target shooting. Four people in a batch shoot at the target at the same time. The scorer will count the points. The score is determined by the number of rings. 1 ring equals 1 point, 10 rings equals 10 points. A total of 10 shots are required. Those who score less than 85 points will be automatically eliminated."

"Those scoring above 85 will be ranked, and the top 16 will advance. Does anyone have any objections to the competition?"

No one in the competition had any objections, and the competition officially began. Four people were randomly selected to be the first to shoot.

Loran silently observed the first group of players taking the stage, watching how they performed.

The contestants began to raise their bows one after another, aim and shoot, firing ten arrows at their own pace.

Two minutes later, one competitor missed the target several times due to mental issues, which meant he was eliminated from the competition.

Another contestant was eliminated because he was too slow and didn't shoot all ten arrows, leaving a few unshot.

The other two players also made mistakes, but fortunately, they were within acceptable limits and successfully scored.

"Sigh! This is my first time participating in a competition like this, and I'm a little nervous... Seeing everyone's gazes gives me a strange feeling, like my hands are out of my control..." one contestant sighed.

His friend comforted him, "It's okay, everyone's the same. Just adjust your mindset. Let's go get something to eat."

The game continued, and four more players took to the field to continue the scoring competition.

Loran watched silently, not paying much attention, until the blond man came on stage, at which point he narrowed his eyes slightly.

He had never seen Elfin fight before. Just how powerful was this being who could capture a large kobold? And how accurate were his arrows?

Although the competition did not specify the type of arrows, it is clear that magic arrows, which possess magical properties, cannot be used on the field, as this could be considered a form of cheating.

Of course, Elfin had no intention or need for it. He raised his bow and casually shot an arrow, which hit the bullseye!
