Chapter 175 The Outskirts of Falling Rock Town
Chapter 175 The Outskirts of Falling Rock Town
"Black Iron-level adventurers are considered top-tier even among adventurers in Rockfall Town. Why...why did they die here, and why is no one even aware of it, just turned into skeletons?" Barton's tone was tinged with shock.
For him, a Black Iron-level adventurer was an extremely powerful being, yet such a being lay dead in the wilderness.
And it wasn't just one, but several skeletons.
The teammates of the Iron-rank adventurers are also quite strong.
Loran took out a shovel and gently covered the remains of the people with soil. He remembered that he had encountered a similar situation when he first transmigrated.
He did the same thing as before, helping to bury the remains in the ground so they could rest in peace.
"They've all come to support Rockfall Town, it's not quite right for them to be exposed like this," Loran said as he dug.
After burying the bones, the two continued on their way. The further they went, the more uneasy Loran felt.
"Wait! Hello! Are you adventurers?" Just then, a villager who looked very flustered suddenly appeared out of nowhere and came panting not far from Loran and the other person.
The villager was dressed in simple clothes, covered in dust, and looked quite disheveled.
Upon seeing this, Barton quickly asked, "Are you a villager who escaped from Rockfall? What happened there?"
Upon hearing this, the villager's face changed drastically. He revealed a terrified expression and stammered, "Monsters... so many monsters. Those monsters have killed many people. If I'm unlucky, I might already be..."
,””
"Please, please help me! If you don't help me, those monsters will kill me!"
The villagers pleaded, "You are my last hope."
Loran found it rather strange that a villager would suddenly appear in this desolate wilderness, but his appearance seemed quite real...
Barton didn't think too much about it. He calmly asked, "Sorry, we want to get into Rockfall Town, so we might not have time to help you. Could you give us directions?"
"Rockfall Town has been overrun by monsters! Going there now is suicide!" a villager cried anxiously. "Take my advice, leave now before those monsters catch up!"
As they spoke, the villagers came to Barton's side, trying to pull him away.
Barton remained unmoved and prepared to shake off the villager's hand.
But to his surprise, he discovered that the villager's strength seemed somewhat abnormal; even with his adventurer's strength, he couldn't shake him off...
The next moment, several thin green snakes suddenly sprang from the villager's arm and lunged at Barton.
Barton was caught off guard and was about to be bitten, but fortunately Brian, who was very vigilant, was on guard and pounced on the villager as soon as he saw him suddenly attack.
In an instant, it tackled the villager to the ground, and the thin snake on its arm turned to bite Brian.
Brian was not afraid at all. He slapped the snakes twice, instantly knocking them unconscious.
"You...all of you must die!" The villager's voice suddenly became low and terrifying, his face began to distort, and three large snakes grew from his back.
The three large snakes flicked their tongues, staring intently at the two people in front of them, emitting low hissing sounds.
The villager's face looked even more haggard, and the scene looked more like the large snakes were using the villager's body as a breeding vessel.
Barton was completely dumbfounded by what he saw. He drew his iron sword and stared intently at the villager before him. "You... are you a human or a monster?"
"I wanted to be a human being, but no one gave me the chance, so I became the monster you all talk about..." The villager's sickly, low voice echoed in their ears.
Loran scoffed, "Playing tricks."
Lightning struck immediately, and a powerful current surged toward the villager.
"boom!"
With a single blow, the villager was sent flying far away. But the next moment, the large snakes on both sides bit the ground and used the momentum to charge towards Loran.
The giant snake in the middle opened its bloody mouth, ready to give Loran a proper hair wash.
Having taken a lightning strike without any reaction, the villager before him was not to be underestimated. Loran entered the Shadow Realm the instant the snake's mouth landed, thus dodging the attack.
He escaped, and Loran, dagger in hand, stabbed the three giant snakes in the back.
Blood splattered, but as he backstabbed one of the large snakes, the other two snakes turned around and attacked Loran.
Loran turned around and used Shadow Cloak to create distance between himself and the guy. "Hmph, I almost forgot what my main job is."
Loran, having created some distance, drew his bow and nocked an arrow. A magical arrow flew out instantly, precisely locking onto the head of one of the snakes.
The snake head hissed and instinctively tried to dodge, but unfortunately, the three large snakes were not very agile and could not dodge the arrows that were flying at high speed.
Just before the arrow was about to hit, Loran used a splitting spell, splitting the arrow into three that simultaneously struck the heads of the three giant snakes!
"Whoosh!" Blood splattered, the three giant snakes trembled, and magic arrows were inserted into their heads.
Strangely, despite being hit in the head, the snake was still able to move. With its two heads planted on the ground, it used the momentum to continue charging towards Loran.
Lorraine was stunned. How could he still sprint so nimbly after being hit in the head?
Barton sped up, trying to help Loran, but the guy was moving too fast; he couldn't keep up and could only shout, "Watch out!"
Loran looked at the villager beneath the three large snakes. Perhaps he had overlooked one thing: the three snake heads might not be real creatures.
They all seem to have originated from the villager below.
Loran drew his bow again, and just before the three giant snakes were about to bite him, his magical arrow pierced the skull of the villager below.
The moment they were hit, the three giant snakes' eyes became dull, their once vibrant bodies went limp, and they collapsed to the ground, completely lifeless.
Brian stepped forward and sniffed carefully to make sure the guy was completely lifeless.
Barton stared in disbelief at the scene, his voice trembling as he said, "This is absolutely horrible. How could an ordinary villager end up like this? What on earth happened in Rockfall?"
At the same time, he became even more certain that the skeletons of those Black Iron adventurers were not an accident, but rather a sign that Rockfall Town had become quite dangerous.
He swallowed hard and looked at Loran. "Brother Garen, this guy may be a monster, but what he says might be true. Rockfall Town might be in great danger right now."
Barton paused for a moment, then asked, "Garen, who are you looking for in Rockfall?"
Lorraine replied, "Well... you two are friends who get along fairly well."
"I see... Garen, although you are very strong, I don't think it's worth risking your life to enter Rockfall Town unless you are a very close friend."
"If you'd like, you can tell me the names of your two friends. If Rockfall is relatively safe, I'll pass on the message. But if it's dangerous..."
"Garen, you're still very young, and you're already so talented," Barton said earnestly.
For a normal person, this is indeed the case; there is no need for Lorraine to risk her life for a friend who is not a relative.
Patton's words were very pertinent and reasonable.
Of course, this is from the perspective of a normal person. Loran doesn't consider himself a normal guy right now.
Lorraine said earnestly, "I have a good relationship with those two friends. I want to give it a try. This is my own choice, and I won't regret it."
Hearing Loran say this, Barton stopped trying to dissuade him. He nodded solemnly, "Alright, Garen, we need to be more careful. Anyone who gets close to us now could be a monster."
"no problem."
Loran and Barton continued toward Rockfall, passing through the sparse forests on the outskirts, and would arrive in Rockfall in a few more minutes.
After the two left, on the clearing where the battle had taken place, the corpse of the three-headed snake villager quietly blossomed into a dazzling flower of flesh and blood.

Along the way, Loran and Barton saw many more skeletons and collected quite a few adventurer's certificates.
Among these are a considerable number of bronze-level adventurer certificates, as well as quite a few iron-level adventurer certificates. In short, these adventurers are all quite powerful.
They likely encountered an unexpected accident, similar to the one involving the previous villager, which led to the team's annihilation and death.
What's puzzling is that, apart from the strange villager they encountered on the outskirts, Loran and Barton didn't encounter any further danger on their journey to Rockfall.
Barton couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. Although he had seen the remains of many adventurers on the way, did this mean that the adventurers had made great sacrifices but had ultimately succeeded in reaching Rockfall Town?
Brian looked around, his sensitive nose constantly sniffing out any potential dangers lurking in the air.
Its tail wagged, and it muttered, "Master, I think I used to come to this place often with my old master, but there used to be a lot of small animals here."
"Even if there aren't any slightly larger creatures like rabbits, there are plenty of butterflies, and those little creatures with fluttering wings."
Loran looked around at the surroundings; the trees were lush and green, and the flowers and grass were swaying in the breeze.
Actually, the sun is shining brightly right now, and the warm light shines on the soil. With the green plants on the side, it can be considered to have some vitality, but it lacks the contrast of small animals.
Along the way, Barton had gotten used to Brian, this talking hound.
After hearing Brian's words, Barton analyzed, "It might be because of the battle. I've heard my parents mention before that everything in the world has a spirit, and animals can also know the specific situation of a certain area."
"So they wanted to escape places of war, and that's why they left this place."
Brian seemed to have thought about those words carefully. He shook his head. "I'm an animal too, why don't I feel the same way?"
Barton blinked, while Loran's lips curled up slightly as he said irritably, "Maybe you've studied too many different things and forgotten your instincts."
"Woof woof!" Brian protested, "No way!"
After passing through this area that Brian was familiar with, Lorraine and his companion heard a rather loud noise.
Patton followed the sound and discovered a group of soldiers advancing in the distance. Their leader held an exquisite family sword and was dressed in fine equipment.
The soldiers behind them were all wearing sturdy armor and carrying iron spears, which were good for fighting.
"Garen! Great, it's a legitimate legion! We've actually run into a legion!" Barton exclaimed with delight.
Loran also came to Barton's side and looked in that direction. Sure enough, it was a legion, and there was even a leader holding a flag. Loran was very familiar with that flag.
That was the banner of the Plasson family. This was the Plasson legion, which, roughly counted, numbered several hundred.
"What are your thoughts?" Loran asked Barton.
Patton thought for a moment and replied, "I think we can join them. After all, it's a regular army, and our safety will be greatly guaranteed."
"Because to be honest, I didn't plan to come here alive... Rockfall Town is huge, and if the monsters here really reach that terrifying number, I would be committing suicide by myself."
"Now that we've met you on the road, Garen, I think we should be more rational. There's strength in numbers, and we can better utilize our power to help the Legion."
Loran thought Barton made a lot of sense. Even though he was quite strong now, he couldn't guarantee that he could fight a lot of monsters, but he had a lot of ways to escape.
But Patton is different. Lorraine doesn't want Patton to fall here, so joining this legion is a very wise choice.
"Okay, let's go ask them and see how they react."
And so, Loran and Barton went to the legion, which remained on guard upon seeing them.
"Halt!" the leading officer shouted.
Lorraine and Barton stopped in their tracks.
"Who are you? Adventurers?"
Barton quickly replied, "That's right, we are adventurers from Plasson who came to the aid of Rockfall Town."
"Parason? Good, show me your adventurer credentials." The officer gestured for his men to proceed.
Two soldiers approached Loran and his companion. Loran produced his adventurer's pass. Based on the timeline, the legion that had come to their aid should not have received any information about the curse.
And they are only verifying the authenticity of the adventure documents; there shouldn't be any major surprises.
Sure enough, after verifying the authenticity of the adventure credentials, the officer nodded. "Since you are both reinforcements sent by Plassen, you should help each other. Have you encountered any difficulties? Why are there only two of you? Oh, and a dog too."
Barton quickly said, "We want to help Rockfall Town solve its problems and we'd like to join your team."

The officer paused for a moment, then replied, "Sure, but our legion has a very high level of discipline. You free-spirited adventurers might not be used to it. Can you guarantee you'll obey orders?"
"No problem!" Barton replied quickly.
"Alright, take your places!"
