Chapter 113 Searching for the Wolf King
Chapter 113 Searching for the Wolf King
"This kind of fighting won't last long." Valen gulped down the water from his pouch. "There are just too many monsters. They're not afraid of death at all. And those dire wolves—"
He paused for a moment and looked at Ryan.
"That tactic you mentioned in the canyon before."
Upon hearing this, Ryan looked up at Warren.
"These beasts aren't charging blindly," Renn said, pointing to the horde of monsters outside the city walls. "They have defined attack waves and targeted areas. Whenever our defenses show a weakness, elite monsters immediately fill the gap."
"They have brains."
"I observed from the battlements for a long time. Although the beast tide's formation is chaotic, there is a slightly larger dire wolf at intervals in relatively safe positions at the rear."
Raine extended his uninjured left hand and pointed to several locations in the air.
"Based on our experience defending various outposts, they are directing the beast tide. They are maintaining discipline among these tens of thousands of monsters. If we can kill these dire wolves, or even just kill the dire wolf king, the current beast tide might collapse on its own."
Mo Fan frowned.
As a garrison commander, he possessed exceptional tactical skills and immediately understood what Renn meant.
"You mean, organize a suicide squad to go out of the city and hunt down those dire wolves in the rear?"
"Yes." Renn nodded.
"That's tantamount to suicide." After some consideration, Mo Fan rejected Renn's suggestion: "The area outside the fortress is now a dead zone. Any group that leaves the protection of the walls will be completely submerged by the black tide within minutes. Even if you are knights, you won't be able to reach those dire wolves."
"But if we don't do that, then we can only hold out and wait for Hughes and the captain to settle their differences." Renn gripped the hilt of his two-handed greatsword.
Right at this moment.
The obsidian emblem inside Mo Fan's armor suddenly lit up.
Mo Fan was stunned.
He quickly took it out and put it to his ear.
Commander Roderick's voice slowly came from within.
"Hughes is immortal; his energy source is the War Wolf King—"
"Sever the passage—kill them—"
"The location of the Warg King is in Blackcry Hills —"
He was silently staring at Ryan, who was sitting on the wooden crate.
Just seconds ago, this young apprentice knight had proposed an almost insane tactic. And now, the highest military orders from the underground core perfectly align with his tactics.
This is not just a defensive battle.
The Warg King is not only the core of the beast tide, but also the source of Hughes' power.
Valen also noticed Mo Fan's unusual behavior.
"Knight Mofan, this is—"
Mo Fan took a deep breath.
The icy air filled his lungs, making the knight's eyes suddenly become incredibly sharp.
He drew the long sword from his waist.
"Rayne Wilder".
Mo Fan's voice no longer showed any hesitation.
"Your plan has been approved."
"The commander gave the exact location of the Warg King."
"That beast is in Black Cry Hills."
When Valen heard the place name, he frowned: "It's a full six kilometers from the city walls."
The blond knight continued, "We have to cross a six-kilometer-long beast tide. Even if we filled all twenty-odd knights with it, we wouldn't make it halfway. If we charge straight into the tide, our stamina will be exhausted, our life energy will be depleted, and then those monsters will devour us, leaving us with nothing but bones."
Renn did not refute it.
This is the most basic common sense.
The human body is not made of steel. Even a fully-fledged knight will die from exhaustion if they fight at high intensity continuously.
In a sea of monsters with that density, no knight below the legendary level could advance six miles by physical combat.
Mo Fan pondered for a moment, then continued, "You don't need to cut your way through."
He pointed to the towering black tower behind him, called over a logistics soldier, and asked him to go to the black tower and fetch a few people.
At the top of the Black Tower, the mages stationed in the fortress had exhausted their magical energy in the effort to resist the high-level spell that Hughes had cast from above. But it was the only way.
A few minutes later, a mage dressed in a gray robe came down the stone steps.
He was bald, and his robe was covered in wiped-off blood-red stains.
Mo Fan greeted him: "Seth, you've come at the right time."
Then he turned around and introduced him to Renn: "This is Seth, a high-ranking spellcaster."
"You knights who only know how to wield iron swords always come to us when you're in the most trouble."
Seth walked unsteadily, clutching a magic crystal in his hand.
"You want to cross six miles? I'm not at the level where I can create a spatial portal to teleport you there directly."
"No need for teleportation." Mo Fan stared at Seth. "I want [Group Shadow Stealth]."

Seth stopped what he was doing, stared at Mo Fan for a long time, and then spoke: "We need to maintain twenty or thirty official knights to advance across the six-kilometer shadow."
The bald-headed monk held up a few fingers.
"I need all the mana crystals in the warehouse. I also need three other high-level mages to assist me in channeling the magic circle by burning my life force."
Mo Fan took the key to the military supply depot from his waist and threw it to Seth.
"Take it all. If we can't hold out tonight, all that stuff will just be good for the monsters to eat."
The personnel to be deployed were quickly determined.
Mo Fan personally led the team. It included Valen, Garrick, and twenty-eight official knights who had just returned from various encampments and were originally stationed at the Northern Fortress.
Including Ryan and Ella.
The troops assembled inside the northern fortress.
No one spoke. Only the occasional soft clinking of swords and armor.
The mage Seth stood before them.
A complex magic circle with a diameter of ten meters has been drawn on the ground using mithril powder.
It was piled high with all sorts of expensive spellcasting materials.
The other three mages stood at the three nodes of the magic circle, dripping their blood into it.
"Go in."
Seth gave the order.
Thirty-three knights entered the magic circle.
Suddenly, Renn felt his feet become incredibly soft. The laws of gravity had shifted at that moment.
The surrounding colors faded instantly.
All the colors of the real world have turned into different shades of gray.
Even their hearing has disappeared.
The roars of the monsters outside the city walls vanished completely. The entire world fell into dead silence.
"Walk."
Mo Fan's voice rang out beside him.
They passed through the north gate.
Of course, the city gates didn't open directly; instead, Renn and his men walked right through.
The moment his body made contact with the city gate, Renn felt a chill and his vision became slightly distorted.
The city gate posed no obstacle to them.
Then they arrived outside the city.
Their feeling at that moment was extremely strange. Tens of thousands of monsters were right around them, but they didn't react at all.
A troll is lifting a giant rock, less than ten centimeters from Renn's shoulder.
Raine could clearly see the frost troll's skin, but could not hear any sound.
The frost trolls didn't see them either.
