Chapter 129 Reunion
Chapter 129 Reunion
Greystone Town is just as Raine remembers it.
The stone-paved street was fairly smooth, and unidentified animal hides hung under the eaves of the wooden houses on both sides.
The air was filled with the familiar scents unique to this small town, which eased Renn's tense nerves a little.
The news of his return quickly spread through the streets of the small town.
"Look, it's that sheriff's son, Ryan!"
"Oh my god, he's actually back? I thought he died during the knighthood exam."
"Look at his horse, and the aura he exudes—it's completely different from when he left."
Whispers drifted from the windows along the street. People craned their necks, their eyes filled with curiosity and surprise. Raine seemed oblivious to these stares; he simply led his horse, his steps steady, through the market.
On his way, he also saw Karl, the butcher's son who had killed the original owner of this body.
The burly man was bragging to a few thugs at the tavern entrance when he saw Ryan, and his smile instantly froze.
He instinctively shrank back, his eyes darting away, as if he had seen some terrifying monster.
Ryan's gaze lingered on him for less than a second before calmly looking away.
Renn felt little disgust or other emotion towards this guy. Although the person before him was one of the culprits responsible for the original owner of this body, to Renn now, this person was no different from the thousands of names he had heard before—just like a roadside stone or a weed. The current Karl was not worth wasting even a shred of emotion on in his eyes.
It was this indifference that chilled Karl to the bone more than any humiliation or beating.
He felt completely naked under that gaze. He lowered his head, not daring to meet Renn's eyes, afraid that the knight before him would really come looking for trouble.
After passing through the market, the Wilde family mansion came into view.
This house was considered a mansion in Greystone. At the entrance, the old servant Fitz was sweeping fallen leaves from the steps. His figure appeared somewhat hunched in the afternoon sun.
Fitz stopped when he saw Ryan approaching with his horse.
He blinked hard, his old eyes wide, as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
"Second...Second Young Master?"
His voice trembled uncontrollably, and he didn't care about the broom in his hand, letting it fall to the ground.
"Fitz, I'm back." Renn greeted the servant with a smile.
"Young Master! You—you're really back!" Fitz was so excited that tears streamed down his face. He hurried down the steps, wanting to embrace Renn, but seeing Renn in his armor, he hesitated and stopped. He just looked Renn up and down, muttering repeatedly, "It's good that you're back, it's good that you're back—but—but—"
He wanted to say, "But he looks more like a real man now," but the words caught in his throat.
"Are my father and sister inside?" Ryan asked.
"Yes, yes! Master is in the study, Miss—Miss should be practicing her sword in the courtyard." Fitz replied hastily, taking the reins from Renn in a flurry. "I—I'll go prepare some hot water and food for you!"
Renn nodded, handed him the reins, and then stepped into the house.
Just then, a clear, crisp sound came from inside the house.
"Grandpa Fitz, who's back?"
As the voice spoke, a figure ran out of the door.
Her chestnut-brown hair was tied into a high ponytail at the back of her head, bouncing up and down with her movements.
The person who arrived was Lina.
When she saw the person standing at the bottom of the steps, she froze, her face filled with disbelief.
"elder brother?"
The next second, she rushed down the steps and pounced on Renn.
"You rascal! You actually know how to come back!"
She was uttering complaints, but a bright smile was blooming on her face.
Looking at her lively and energetic appearance, Ryan's body, which had been somewhat tired from the long journey, suddenly perked up.
He couldn't help but laugh, and reached out to ruffle her hair.
"Hey! Don't touch my hair, I just combed it!" Lina nimbly dodged backward, avoiding his claws, and then came closer, circling around Renn.
"You look so much stronger, and you have a weapon, a really exaggerated greatsword—what happened here?" She pointed to a shallow, scabbed-over scratch on Renn's cheek and asked, "Are you injured?"
"It's just a minor injury, it's healed a long time ago," Renn said casually.
"Liar!" Lina wrinkled her nose and, without saying a word, grabbed Ryan's arm and carefully rolled up his sleeve.
Although Raine's injuries have improved, the scars left by the Warg King seem to take several more months to completely disappear. When Lina saw his scarred arm, her eyes instantly welled up with tears.
"What have you been through all this time?" Her voice trembled with tears.
In her imagination, traveling with a formal knight might be tough, but it would never be to the point of being covered in wounds.
These scars undoubtedly tell the story of the dangers that Rennes encountered.
"It's nothing, it's normal for men to have scars." Not wanting her to worry, Ryan pulled his arm away, rolled down his sleeve, and immediately changed the subject, saying, "But you seem to have grown a little taller."
"I'm still growing!" Lina, her attention successfully diverted, puffed out her chest. "Grandpa Fitz said that in two years, I'll definitely be taller than you!"
"Alright, alright, stop standing at the door." Fitz watched the siblings' long-awaited reunion with a smile on his face. "Young Master, you must be tired from your journey. I'll settle your horse first, then prepare some hot water and food for you."
"Thank you for your help, Fitz."
"It's what I should do."
Lina grabbed Ryan's arm and practically dragged him into the house.
"Come in quickly! You've been gone for half a year without even a letter! I thought you were like my brother, never coming back for years!" she complained as she helped Ryan remove his armor.
"Winter has arrived in the North; there are no messengers or carrier pigeons left," Raine explained.
"Excuses! All excuses!" Lina snorted. She helped Rein remove the longsword from his waist and, using both hands, barely managed to lift him up and place him on the weapon rack in the courtyard.
"Go take a shower and change into some clean clothes!" Lina pushed Rein toward the bathroom without saying a word. "Look at you, you look dirty and smelly! Grandpa Fitz has prepared the hot water."
