Chapter 13 Breathing Techniques

Two days later, in Greystone Town.

The Wilde family's carriage slowly drove into the house.

Old Fitz sat upright on the carriage shaft, his face glowing.

As soon as the carriage came to a stop, the gate was quickly pushed open.

Lina strode out. She clutched the money pouch tightly in her hand—it was the money she had prepared for Ryan's escape.

For the past two weeks, she had barely slept a wink. She had mentally rehearsed countless scenarios of her brother's disastrous defeat: being carried back with a broken leg, or slinking back in disgrace. She had even contacted a smuggling captain at the dock, ready to send Ryan to a nearby town to lay low at any time.

However, when Renn jumped off the carriage, Lina was stunned when she saw the bronze badge pinned to his chest.

The money bag in her hand fell to the ground with a "thud," and several silver coins rolled out of it.

"Second brother, you..."

The girl's usually calm eyes were first filled with surprise, then welled up with tears.

She stared intently at the badge, subconsciously thinking she was still half asleep.

"Looks like we can get a refund for that ship ticket." Renn picked up the money bag from the ground, smiled, weighed it in his hand, then walked over and gently flicked his sister's forehead. "What's wrong? Aren't you welcoming a newly minted apprentice knight home?"

"Ouch!" Lina clutched her forehead, tears finally streaming down her face. "Who wants to welcome an idiot like you!"

Linus Wilder watched this scene quietly from the window of his study on the second floor.

The notoriously stern sheriff, who was also Ryan's father, did not come downstairs to greet him. He simply took a deep drag on his pipe, a rare softening on his perpetually taut face. He turned and walked to the liquor cabinet, took out a bottle of his twelve-year-old vintage, and poured two glasses.

The family dinner that evening was incredibly lavish.

Although Linus was still not very talkative, he surprisingly allowed Renn to drink a glass of strong liquor.

After dinner, in the study.

Ryan sat down in that familiar spot once again.

Linus took out a long, rectangular object wrapped in black oilcloth from the deepest part of the locked drawer and carefully placed it on the table.

"Now that you've passed Karen's test, there are some things I should pass on to you."

He unwrapped the oilcloth layer by layer, revealing an ancient book. The cover had no words, only a circular rock totem.

"This is a secret manual passed down through generations of the Wilder family," Linus said, stroking the manual in his hand. "The Black Rock Breathing Technique."

Renn reached out to take it, but Linus pressed his hand down.

"Before you open it, you need to understand the rules of this world." Linus looked at Renn seriously:

"Raine, do you know why I only taught you swordsmanship before, but never showed you this breathing technique?"

Renn was indeed somewhat confused, shaking his head, and could only guess from the original owner's previous bastard behavior:

"Because I used to be an asshole?"

"That's only part of the reason." Linus did not deny this.

"The real reason is that only knights are qualified to practice breathing techniques. In this world, breathing techniques are controlled by the Knight Orders and the major knightly families and nobles."

Linus slowly walked up to Renn.

"As far as I know, knights categorize breathing techniques into four levels based on their sophistication and potential for growth: rudimentary, excellent, perfect, and legendary."

"If you weren't born into the Wilder family, as an ordinary apprentice knight, you could only learn a rudimentary breathing technique from the knightly order. Most people would probably need to be apprentice knights or squires for twenty or thirty years to master this breathing technique. Only when they reach middle age would they have a chance to condense the [Seed of Life] and become a full knight."

"Of course, if you're lucky and your assigned knight mentor is in a good mood, he might teach you a move or two. But the chances of that are lower than finding a dragon egg in the forest."

Then Linus pointed to the secret manual in his hand: "And our family's 'Black Rock Breathing Technique' is of excellent quality."

"Excellent breathing techniques are the key to becoming a knight, but they are only the key. As for perfection and legend... those are things only grand dukes and legendary heroes deserve."

Renn roughly understood what his father meant. In this world where breathing techniques were monopolized by knights, this breathing technique before him was priceless.

But breathing techniques are just secret manuals. What if those knight families who possess breathing techniques secretly teach them to their children?

"What if an ordinary person steals the skill?" With that thought, Renn couldn't help but ask.

"Wild Knight," Linus uttered an unfamiliar word.

"If discovered, you will either be forcibly conscripted into the suicide squad or executed as a heretic. The Knights will never allow their power to fall outside the system. Therefore, tonight you must swear a solemn oath never to teach this breathing technique to any non-knight."

"I swear," Ryan nodded solemnly.

"Very good." Linus sat back down in his chair and pointed to the book.

"Open it. Don't go anywhere this month. Whether you understand it or not, engrave every word in this breathing technique into your mind."

"When you can feel the heat gathering in your heart, you'll have almost mastered the basics."

A week later, late at night, in Ryan's room.

Moonlight streamed in through the window, breaking into strips that fell evenly over the headboard.

Raine sat cross-legged on the bed, with the book "Black Rock Breathing Method" open in front of him.

He has read it carefully three times.

The book is obscure and difficult to understand, filled with a lot of metaphysical descriptions, and from the perspective of Ryan's logic and common sense as a modern person, there are many contradictions.

Despite spending almost all his time studying the book "Black Rock Breathing Technique" this week, Raine made almost no progress.

Fortunately, Rennes has a golden touch.

"call……"

Raine adjusted his breathing, closed his eyes, and his consciousness began to sink.

When he opened his eyes again, he found himself in the gray, misty corridor.

On the walls of the corridor, the characters describing his physical attributes underwent a slight change.

Compared to when Renn first came to this world, after more than a month of practice, Renn's agility has improved by two points, returning to the normal level of an adult.

As for the slight improvement in his physique, Renn wasn't sure if it was the effect of the training or the result of him learning the [Iron Wall Stance].
