Chapter 133 Continuing Forward
The remaining time flew by.
Renn completely relaxed.
He accompanied Lina as they hunted in the forests surrounding Greystone and strolled through the market.
Lina also took this opportunity to show off to everyone she knew her brother, who was about to become a full-fledged knight.
In the evenings, Linus would call Renn to his study, and they would chat like two friends, discussing all sorts of interesting stories and the situation in various parts of the kingdom.
Linus imparted his experiences of travel and combat from his youth to Renn without reservation.
The morning of parting finally arrived.
The weather was somewhat gloomy, as if foreshadowing parting.
Raine donned his armor once more and hung his longsword at his waist. Fitz had already prepared his baggage and ample provisions.
At the entrance of the mansion, Linus and Lina came to see him off.
"Be careful once you get to the capital," Linus patted Renn on the shoulder.
"Brother, you must write back often!"
"I will."
Renn mounted his horse and took one last look at the town.
Then, he turned the horse around and squeezed its belly with his legs.
"drive!"
Rye let out a neigh, took off on all fours, and sped off toward the road leading to Sunset City.
The wind blew up his cloak.
When Renn saw Sunset City again, he was no longer as exhausted as he had been from the long journey.
He didn't go directly to the Knights of Dawn, but instead took a detour to the stables in the west of the city.
There, he spent a few copper coins to have the best groom wash the rye and feed him the finest oats and beans.
This companion who fought alongside him all the way back from the North deserves the best treatment.
After doing all this, he leisurely walked back to the Knights.
As soon as he stepped through the gates of the Knights, a familiar aura wafted over. Looking up, he saw Ella sitting alone by the window, idly teasing an unidentified little flower on the windowsill with a small stick.
She seemed to sense something, and turned around abruptly, clearly excited when she saw Ryan.
"You're back!"
She darted from her seat in a few steps, circled around Ryan, and even gave him a rather professional sniff.
"Hmm—it seems you're enjoying being home?" She tilted her head, somewhat curious.
"It's alright," Ryan replied succinctly. "My family treats me very well."
"It feels so good to have family thinking about you," she suddenly whispered, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible.
Suddenly, Ryan caught a hint of melancholy in the girl's eyes and tone.
This lively and cheerful half-elf girl, who is as free as the wind, seems to have a side that is unknown to others.
He suddenly realized that since he met Ella, he had never heard her mention her family.
"You—" He was about to ask something, but then felt it was a bit abrupt.
"Me?" Ella quickly regained her composure and said with a grin, "Well, I haven't seen them in a long time. My mother is an elf, and elves have very long lifespans. For them, several decades is just a slightly longer journey. As for my father, he's always busy with important matters."
Although she spoke lightly, Ryan could still sense a hint of detachment and loneliness in her tone.
Just then, a voice came from the stairwell.
"Now that we're back, let's get ready. We'll go to the Knights' headquarters to replenish our supplies."
Sir Karen descended from upstairs. He had changed into his usual armor and was carrying his exaggerated greatsword.
He glanced at Ryan, didn't ask anything about his family, and simply nodded calmly.
"Okay!" Ella immediately put her little bit of sadness behind her and replied with great interest.
Inside the Dawn Knights' compound in Sunset City, when Sir Karen approached, the guards at the gate immediately adopted a respectful demeanor and opened the gate for them.
"Sir Karen, you've come here...are you about to leave?" The person in charge of the post was a middle-aged knight named Austin.
When he saw Karen, he immediately hurried over to her.
"Auston." Karen simply nodded, as if to say hello. "I need some supplies. The horseshoes for the three warhorses need to be replaced. Also, prepare enough dry rations for the three of us to travel to the capital, and a few spare water bags."
"No problem, Sir Karen." Austin readily agreed, then turned his gaze to Ryan and Ella behind Karen: "You two go to the capital—"
Karen explained succinctly, "They are about to travel to the capital to be knighted as full knights."
A hint of envy immediately appeared on Austin's face.
He remembered that when these two had just passed the test last year, the knights in the garrison were somewhat reluctant to accept them, but now, they were about to become official knights.
"Please follow me." He personally led the way.
The quartermaster station at the base was far more sophisticated than Renn had imagined.
Various standard weapons and armor were neatly arranged on the shelves.
While waiting for the horses to rest and supplies to be prepared, Ella excitedly wandered between the weapon racks.
"Raine, come quick! This elven rapier has wind elemental enchantments on it!"
"And this! A crossbow crafted by dwarves, with a very unique design!"
She was full of enthusiasm for all sorts of novel weapons and equipment, while Ryan's gaze was drawn to something on the other side.
It was a separate room with a sign on the door that said alchemy and potions.
He went inside and saw rows of shelves filled with various colored potions.
"Do you need anything, sir?" an alchemist wearing a monocle asked in the room.
"Let me see." Ryan's gaze swept over the labels on the medicines.
[Secondary Healing Potion], [Antidote], [Rage Potion], [Eagle Eye Potion] —
These are the most commonly used consumables for knights. His gaze finally settled on a bottle containing a dark green liquid.
Then, Renn paused for a moment, and another message popped up:
【Super Strength Potion (Inferior Quality)】
Description: After consumption, it can greatly increase strength for a short period of time, but after the effects wear off, one will fall into a period of weakness that lasts for several hours.
Although it was a substandard product with side effects, its effects were indeed quite remarkable.
"I need two bottles," he said to the alchemist.
"A wise choice." The alchemist adjusted his glasses. "A true warrior always prepares an escape route for himself."
When they had everything ready and left their camp, it was already noon.
The three warhorses were brand new, with iron hooves nailed to their horseshoes, and their packs were bulging beside the saddles.
"Alright, let's go." Sir Karen mounted his horse.
Ryan and Ella nimbly mounted their horses.
They didn't look back at Sunset City again, but headed straight for the King's Avenue, which runs through the entire Kingdom of Orland and leads directly to the capital.
