Chapter 20 Fierce Battle

Two guards were chatting idly against the wooden gate of the camp, completely unaware that death was already standing behind them.

Karen slowly unsheathed the greatsword from her back.

The sword was six feet long, and its blade was broad and thick, like a door panel.

At that very moment, Renn heard a strange sound.

"breathe--"

The sound originated from Karen's chest; it was extremely slow, yet as heavy as a bellows being pulled.

Ryan turned to look at Karen.

He could clearly see that with Karen taking a deep breath, some white steam gushed out from the gaps in his breastplate, as if a furnace inside him was being ignited.

The old knight's neck veins bulged slightly, and his previously somewhat cloudy eyes turned bloodshot.

Raine suddenly thought of breathing techniques.

Is this the proper state of a knight operating the breathing technique?

Karen did not give Ryan more time to observe.

"The Sword of Dawn, here comes the judgment!"

The old knight did not choose to launch a sneak attack, but roared out.

Before the two guards could react, Karen had already moved.

The giant sword seemed weightless in his hands.

He didn't swing the sword; instead, he used the weight of the greatsword itself and the kinetic energy of his charge to ram the broad blade into the wooden door like a battering ram.

"boom--!!!"

After a loud bang, wood chips flew everywhere.

The wooden door, along with the latch behind it, shattered instantly.

The two guards behind the door were thrown away by the impact, and one of them had his sternum visibly collapsed and died on the spot.

"Enemy attack!!!"

The camp erupted in chaos.

More than twenty disheveled bandits, armed with axes and machetes, rushed out of the wooden house.

"Kill him!"

Karen did not take a step forward in the face of the surging crowd.

He held the greatsword horizontally, assuming a very peculiar stance—his left hand gripped the end of the hilt, while his right hand did not grip the hilt but instead rested directly on the broad spine of the sword.

This is a stance unique to two-handed greatswords, combining offense and defense.

Karen did not dodge when three robbers pounced on her at the same time.

Three axes and a scimitar struck the spine of the greatsword, sparks flying. But the greatsword remained completely still.

The next second, the offense and defense reversed.

Karen thrust her right hand forward with force, while her left hand pulled back smoothly.

The greatsword instantly deflected the enemy's weapon.

Immediately following, another sweeping attack.

"call--"

The sword's edge tore through the air, emitting a series of low hums.

This isn't cutting, it's smashing.

This heavy weapon doesn't need a very sharp blade; its kinetic energy alone is enough to destroy everything.

The bandit at the front tried to block with his shield.

"Snap!"

The shield shattered, and the arm holding it was smashed into a bloody pulp.

The greatsword, still possessing considerable force, slammed into his side, sending him flying five meters away and crashing into a tent.

This is the absolute crushing power.

"Rain, left flank! Don't let them surround us!" Karen roared, brandishing his greatsword once more.

At that moment, he was like a storm of steel.

The greatsword in his hand sometimes acted as a shield to block, and sometimes fell like a guillotine.

The sword's momentum was continuous, requiring no recharging.

Raine gritted his teeth and charged toward the two bandits on his left who were trying to ambush him.

His heart pounded, but under the [Iron Wall Stance], his feet were driven into the soil like nails.

Faced with the dagger thrusting at him, Renn seized the opportunity and used the hilt of his longsword to block the blade.

The friction of metal produced a piercing shriek.

There were several more bandits behind him, so Renn did not choose to fight them.

He suddenly released his tension, turned to the side to dissipate the force, causing his opponent to stagger forward a step due to inertia.

Raine gripped the sword in a reverse grip and, with remarkable skill, slammed the hilt into the back of his opponent's head.

"Thump!"

In the instant the robber was stunned, Renn kicked him in the back of the knee, forcing him to his knees. Then, without hesitation, he thrust his longsword into the gap between the collarbones, straight to the heart.

He drew his sword, drawing a spray of blood.

The raw, viscous sensation of a sharp blade cutting through muscle and cartilage traveled from the hilt of the sword to the palm of the hand.

Compared to before, there is now absolutely no time left for Renn to feel disgusted.

This is what killing feels like.

On the other side, Ella was to Karen's left, specializing in reaping the enemies she knocked down or who lost their balance.

Within minutes, more than twenty bandits lay dead in front of them, but the bandit leader was still alive.

"Get out of my way, all of you!"

With a loud shout, the one-eyed leader wearing an eyepatch appeared on the roof, carrying a crossbow.

"Die, you old bastard!"

With a loud thud, the crossbow bolt shot out.

But Karen didn't even look up.

In that instant, his breathing became rapid and labored, and the air around him distorted due to the intense heat.

[Perception Explosion].

What appears to be a crossbow bolt as fast as lightning to an ordinary person, Karen perceives as having a trajectory at this moment.

The greatsword in his hand was originally slashing downwards, but it forcibly changed direction in mid-air.

He flipped his wrist, using the broad spine of the sword as a shield to block in front of his face.

"clang--!!!"

With a loud bang, sparks exploded on the spine of the sword.

The crossbow bolt, powerful enough to pierce plate armor, was deflected, leaving a white mark on the sword.

Karen slowly turned her head and locked her gaze on the one-eyed leader on the roof.

"Is that all?"

Perhaps because of the breathing technique she was using, Karen's voice was low and hoarse.

He planted one foot on the ground, preparing to gather his strength.

The next second, he rushed towards the house.

Faced with the two bandits blocking his way, he didn't even swing his sword, but instead rammed them with his chainmail-clad shoulder.

"Bang! Bang!"

Two muffled thuds were heard, and two adult men were sent flying.

Karen rushed to the ground beneath the roof, slashing her greatsword and severing the pillar supporting the roof.

"Boom!"

Half of the wooden house collapsed.

The one-eyed man screamed as he tumbled off the roof and crashed into the mud, his crossbow flying from his hand.

Just as he was about to get up, a huge black sword was already hovering in front of his nose.

The few remaining bandits around the camp, seeing the situation was dire, dared not fight any longer and knelt on the ground.

"I...I have money!" The one-eyed man cried, tears streaming down his face, as he tried to grab Karen's boots. "I'm the Baron's..."

The sound stopped abruptly.

The fleshy head flew up, and in its single eye, a last trace of disbelief remained.

The headless corpse swayed twice, then collapsed to the ground, spitting out a jet of blood.

Karen stared blankly at the corpse, as if it were a pile of dog poop on the side of the road.

Clang.

When the last few bandits saw their leader dead, they completely lost the will to resist. Their weapons fell to the ground, and they knelt down, weeping and begging for mercy.

"Spare us...please spare us, sir! We were forced into this!"

Karen sheathed her sword, not even glancing at those who were begging for mercy.

He turned around and looked at Ryan and Ella, who were covered in blood.

"Raine".

"exist."

Raine stepped forward, his sword still dripping with blood, his chest heaving.

"According to the Code of Chivalry," Karen said, the steam dissipating from her body, "what should be done with bandits who plunder civilians and murder innocent people?"
