America: Starting with the Last Liberty

Chapter 154: Is it considered open if it's not closed? (4K)
Once Mike entered the room, Billy couldn't help but ask Rosen.
"Jack, that phone call just now—"
"Shh! This is the latest technology, you know!"
The phrase "you know what I mean" instantly triggered Billy's imagination, leading him to suspect that it was the FBI's latest technology, something like synthesized speech.
In reality, this was just a pre-recorded message from Lawson that would play automatically when the call was connected.
Billy breathed a sigh of relief; he had almost been scared to death.
"The signal we heard after we went inside."
"clear!"
Rosen and Billy closed the apartment door and went inside.
Besides Mike, there were two other members of the Castro gang in the room, and Billy greeted them.
"Where is John Byrne?"
"He's playing games in the other room! Thank goodness for the game console, otherwise we'd be driven crazy by him!"
Rosen glanced into the inner room and saw a young man in his early twenties playing video games, grinning foolishly as he played, looking rather dim-witted.
Having reviewed John Byrne's file, Rosen quickly confirmed that the man's identity was correct.
At that moment, Mike spoke up from the living room.
"Billy, Mr. Castro suddenly summoned you here. Is there something you need?"
"That's right, Mr. Castro is worried that this place will be exposed, so he wants you to move to a safer place. I'm the one who's responsible for taking you there."
"I see! Shall we pack our things then?"
"Yes! Let's pack up quickly!"
Rosen quickly gave Billy a look, and then suddenly made his move while Mike and the other two were packing up.
Billy tripped Mike, then pulled out a gun and subdued him.
Rosen then pulled out his multi-functional walking stick and swiftly knocked the remaining two men to the ground.
Mike was completely bewildered; he still hadn't realized what Billy was up to.
"Billy, are you crazy? This kind of joke isn't funny!"
Billy looked at Mike's face and struggled for a long time before finally saying the words he had always wanted to say.
"Excuse me, I'm a police officer!"
(Still from the American version of the rooftop showdown)
Mike still didn't believe it; he stared wide-eyed at Billy.
"That's impossible! Billy, don't joke like that! April Fool's Day was ages ago!"
Billy moved his lips, unsure how to answer Mike.
The two had a bond forged through thick and thin, but now they were forced to become enemies because of their opposing stances.
"Billy, stop wasting time and tie him up quickly. We need to move!"
It was indeed a relocation; Billy hadn't lied to Mike about this, except that Mike and his two companions weren't among those being relocated.
Billy sighed.
"Mike, I'm sorry! I had to do this!"
Rosen took out the rope he had prepared and tied the three of them up, and confiscated their cell phones and all their personal belongings.
Billy went into the room to try and bring John Byrne out.
John Byrne has an intellectual disability, so he doesn't speak very well, especially since Billy and Rosen are strangers.
Just then, there was another knock on the apartment door.
Rosen immediately became alert.
"Billy, go open the door!"
Billy composed himself, walked to the door, and opened it. He happened to recognize the person who knocked.
"Ryan? What brings you here?"
"Uh, Mr. Castro sent me. He felt it wasn't safe here, so he wanted to move John Byrne."
Billy's expression instantly turned strange. He had just said something similar to Mike, and he never expected to hear such words himself.
Rosen immediately sensed something was wrong and saw a pistol sticking out from the crack in the door.
"Be careful!"
"what!"
A gunshot rang out, followed by a scream.
But Billy wasn't shot because Rosen threw a playing card in time, which hit the hand holding the gun outside the door.
This caused the gun to veer slightly, saving Billy from serious injury.
Billy had already realized that the people outside the door were most likely not sent by Frank, but probably came like the two of them to take John Byrne away.
Fortunately, Billy had been careful when he opened the door; the safety chain was engaged, so the person outside couldn't rush in immediately.
"Close the door now!"
Billy tried to close the door quickly, but someone blocked the door with their foot, preventing him from closing it.
Left with no other option, Rosen pulled out the Beretta M93R he had previously captured and fired.
The shot wasn't pre-aimed; it was purely meant to scare the person outside the door. It did manage to frighten them back, allowing Billy to close the door smoothly.
"Fuck! Who are they?"
Billy was certain that the people outside weren't sent by Frank, not even Ryan, who was also a core member of the Castro gang.
Unless Frank could predict the future, he couldn't possibly have known that he and Rosen would come here.
"I bet they're from the CIA!"
Since the CIA agents suffered a major loss at Rosen's hands the night before last, the CIA has been relatively quiet for the past two days.
However, Rosen did not let his guard down against the CIA, and sure enough, the CIA located John Byrne's location today.
It's highly likely that he met the man named Ryan through Billy.
"Rosen, what do we do?"
The CIA's reputation was so great that Billy couldn't help but feel a little flustered at the thought of facing those powerful agents.
"Billy, calm down! Agents are human too, and humans can be defeated. You go to the room and deal with John Byrne, I'll think of something."
The CIA agents outside didn't immediately try to break down the door, so they must have something to rely on.
Rosen looked at the curtains; if they didn't go through the front door, the window was the only escape route.
Would the CIA leave such a huge loophole?
Rosen carefully pulled back the curtains and immediately felt a stinging sensation, so he quickly stepped back and moved to the side.
This is Spider-Ace reminding Rosen that he is being targeted by a sniper rifle.
"Damn it! It wasn't that simple after all!"
Using Spider Ace's senses, Rosen deduced that the sniper should be on the roof of the building across the street.
The sniper didn't fire immediately, probably because he didn't want to alert the enemy.
All the routes are now blocked, and all Rosen can do is make phone calls to call for reinforcements.
"91, did your assault fail?"
"Yes, the people inside are very vigilant; Kevin even injured his hand with playing cards."
"Playing cards? Are you kidding me?"
"I took a look; they're specially made metal playing cards, extremely sharp. 99, how's the situation on your end?"
"A white man just peeked through the curtains, but quickly withdrew. I can't see how many people are inside."
"Damn it! Which organization do they belong to? They don't seem like ordinary gangs!"
"Hmph! 91, in my opinion, we should just launch a direct attack and not hesitate."
"No! We can't let things escalate too much, or we'll get into trouble!"
"Tch! Whatever, I'll help you set it up for another half hour, and then I'll leave."
"I see."
The sound in the earpiece disappeared, and 99 continued to hold up the apartment window to prevent anyone from escaping through it.
However, just a minute later, the sound of sirens came from afar, which surprised 99.
"Huh, did the LAPD arrive so quickly?"
Frank placed John Byrne's apartment in one of the most chaotic neighborhoods in Long Beach.
Even if someone calls the police here, it's already considered fast if the LAPD can arrive within half an hour.
99 sensed something was wrong, and coincidentally, the police car arrived and stopped right downstairs at the house where she was, and the officers who got out of the car immediately went upstairs.
"Fuck! 91, something's wrong! My location has been detected, LAPD is looking for me, I have to move!"
"What did you say? Didn't you just say that guy only glanced at you and then retreated? How did he find your location?"
This is also what puzzled 99. She clearly only saw Rosen peek (referring to quickly turning to the side to look for information, a term in FPS games) for less than a second.
It only takes a second to spot the sniper's position; it's like having a cheat code.
Lawson: Does not turning it off mean it's open?
"I don't know! Anyway, the police have already started coming upstairs, I have to leave!"
99 put away her sniper rifle and began to move. If she was spotted by the LAPD, she would have no choice but to take action.
Regardless of the outcome, it will be very troublesome.
Fortunately, 99 had prepared a zipline escape route in advance, so even if the police came upstairs, they wouldn't be able to catch her.
However, 99 can be safely transferred, but 91 is in trouble.
Without 99 holding the window open, 91 had no choice but to launch a direct assault, which would inevitably result in casualties.
If the people in the room were to suddenly decide to kill John Byrne, it would mean that 91's mission had failed halfway.
Unfortunately, 91 now has no other choice.
"Kevin, prepare your men for a full-scale assault on 17."
Before 91 could finish speaking, the door to the apartment where Rosen and the others were located opened by itself, without the security chain being engaged.
This is like saying to someone outside the door: Come in and have some fun!
However, neither 91 nor the agents beside him dared to make any sudden movements; everyone wore a wary expression.
Until, a cylinder rolled out from under the door.
This thing was so familiar that 91's expression suddenly changed.
"Watch out for grenades!"
91 immediately jumped out and lay down; no other agent had his reaction speed.
There is still a difference in quality between codenamed agents and ordinary agents.
Fortunately, it wasn't a hand grenade, but a smoke grenade.
boom!
The smoke bomb created a large area of smoke, and 91 immediately sensed something was wrong.
"Fuck! Watch out, the people inside might try to break out!"
Upon hearing 91's words, the other agents immediately opened fire with their weapons, and gunfire erupted throughout the apartment.
However, they did not hear the sound of a bullet hitting flesh, but rather the strange sound of some kind of bullet hitting some unknown substance.
The bullets ran out quickly, and the agent had to stop firing and reload.
The next second, an umbrella emerged from the smoke and swiftly knocked the gun out of the nearest agent's hand.
All the agents saw a white man carrying a cane and wearing sunglasses rush out.
(Bulletproof umbrella)
"Bulletproof umbrella!"
The CIA agents were dumbfounded. Ordinary agents had never seen such high-tech equipment before. Only 91, as an elite agent with a code name, could recognize Rosen's equipment.
It was indeed a bulletproof umbrella. Rosen had seen a spy movie in his past life, and although he had mostly forgotten the plot, he remembered some of the equipment very well.
Among them is this bulletproof umbrella.
Therefore, Lawson modified the Multifunctional Stick Technique using the power of the Overlord's Technique, adding a bulletproof umbrella function to it.
Although this bulletproof umbrella can only last for a few minutes, it can be surprisingly effective in critical moments.
However, the bulletproof umbrella in the movie could even fire bullets, but Lawson didn't modify it like that, mainly because he was worried it would explode.
After all, with Greenskin technology, who knows when something might go wrong? Rosen isn't some tough Greenskin; he doesn't want to play such a risky game.
Seeing that the agents were mostly reloading, Rosen immediately pulled out a deck of cards and started throwing them around like crazy.
After a period of practice, Rosen's card throwing technique has become quite good, except that the speed is a little slower, but the accuracy has greatly improved.
By injuring agents with flying cards and finishing them off with punches and elbows, Rosen quickly took down the ordinary CIA agents.
Oh, and there's that unfortunate Ryan too, making a total of six people.
Although this guy wasn't a secret agent, Rosen was afraid he would help the CIA, so he took him out as well.
Now only 91, who was relatively far away, was safe, so he immediately raised his gun and fired.
The reason for not firing at the beginning was that the corridors of the apartment building were relatively narrow, and firing during a firefight could easily result in friendly fire.
Rosen easily blocked the 91 pistol bullet with his bulletproof umbrella.
The magazine was quickly emptied, making 91's face turn very ugly.
"Suit, bulletproof umbrella, are you from the tailor shop?"
"What tailor shop?"
Rosen's face showed a strange expression; 91, this veteran agent, could tell he wasn't faking it.
The problem is that the equipment Rosen is wearing is too coincidental, making it hard for 91 not to suspect Rosen's origins.
"What a pretentious guy!"
As he spoke, 91 threw a ball. Rosen thought it was some kind of explosive weapon and immediately used his bulletproof umbrella to block it.
But then I thought, that guy on the other side probably wouldn't throw explosives at his own teammate's location.
Sure enough, nothing happened after the sphere opened; it only emitted an extremely high-frequency sound that was difficult for the human ear to detect.
You can see that the other CIA agents near the sphere all have pained expressions on their faces.
Rosen also felt a sharp pain in his eardrums, and he immediately realized that the other party was using an ultrasonic weapon.
Under the influence of such ultra-high frequency sound, it is easy to feel dizzy and lose balance.
Realizing 91's purpose, Rosen immediately pretended to have fallen for the trap.
Seeing this, 91 rushed over, intending to capture Rosen through hand-to-hand combat.
They didn't choose to change the magazine because if Rosen really worked for the tailor shop, his suit would be bulletproof.
In areas where people aren't dressed in suits, it would be easy to kill Rosen. 91 also wanted to capture Rosen alive and interrogate him to find out his background.
Well, although the process of 91 was wrong, the result was correct: Rosen's suit was indeed bulletproof.
"Got you!"
91 grabbed Rosen's hand holding the multi-functional walking stick, only to see Rosen suddenly reveal a strange smile.
"Hehe! How about a magic trick?"
