Lin Fan turned his head and said.

Officer Zhang waved: "Old Liu, Aunt Wang, you get in the patrol car in the back, you two sit in the one in front with me!"

The group quickly got into the police car and closed the doors.

The heater was on in the car, and the police officer in the passenger seat was holding a police mobile phone and recording the initial report information.

Lin Fan sat calmly in the back seat, silently watching the street scene rushing past the car window.

Su Xiaoxiao pursed her lips and clenched the hem of her trench coat tightly with both hands.

"Waaaaah—!!"

With sirens blaring and red and blue police lights flashing in the winter morning breeze, the car sped out of Phoenix Golden Street.

……

Jiangcheng East District Police Station.

The chill that enveloped the people who came in from outside was still lingering on them for a while.

Especially Su Xiaoxiao.

She sat on the edge of the bench with her head down, her hands gripping the hem of her clothes tightly.

Aunt Wang sat next to her, holding her wrist with one hand, and kept muttering to herself.

"Xiaoxiao, you must never be so impulsive again."

"Those people are deliberately trying to provoke you."

"You're a grown woman; if you really hurt someone, wouldn't you be the one who suffers in the end?"

"I understand, Auntie." Su Xiaoxiao nodded gently.

But thinking of what she had just witnessed, she couldn't help but grit her teeth.

"But I really can't stand them bullying you..."

Hearing this, Aunt Wang's eyes immediately welled up with tears again.

"Silly child." The old lady raised her hand and patted her head.

"Next time something like this happens, protect yourself first, understand?"

Su Xiaoxiao pursed her lips, responded softly, and lowered her head even further.

In the lobby on the first floor of the police station, police officers hurried back and forth.

The leather curtain at the entrance was occasionally lifted, bringing in a blast of cold air mixed with snowflakes, which was then swallowed up by the dry heat emanating from the indoor radiators.

Old Liu sat at the other end of the bench, his thick, oil-stained cotton-padded coat still unbuttoned, his hand still tightly gripping the large, two-foot-long adjustable wrench.

A young police officer on duty, carrying a folder, walked by and saw the large object in Old Liu's arms. He paused, walked over, and tapped on the wooden armrest of the bench.

"Sir, you can't bring this kind of metal object into the investigation hall. Please leave it at the front desk for now, and you can take it back when you leave."

Old Liu paused for a moment, then realized he was still holding his weapon to his chest. He handed over the wrench somewhat embarrassedly, muttering to himself:

"Comrade, I'm just keeping an eye out for those hooligans. Just now in the alley, those guys were carrying something that looked like iron pipes, acting really tough."

"Alright, once we get to the station, no one will dare to cause trouble, so don't worry." The young policeman took the heavy wrench and turned to hand it to the front desk for registration.

Lin Fan stood to the side of the pillar next to the bench, his expression calm.

Hearing the conversation between Aunt Wang and Xiaoxiao, he turned around and walked to the water dispenser at the corner of the corridor.

Lin Fan returned carrying two steaming cups of water and handed them to Aunt Wang and Su Xiaoxiao.

"Auntie, have some hot water to warm your stomach. You've been standing in the wind for so long, don't make yourself sick." Lin Fan's voice was calm and gentle.

Aunt Wang reached out and took the paper cup, her two withered palms pressed tightly against the scalding hot cup, her palms red from the heat, but her eyes revealed a sense of reassurance:

"Oh, okay, thank you, Xiao Fan. I've really caused you a lot of trouble today, Grandma..."

"You're a long-time neighbor, this trouble is aimed at the shop, it has nothing to do with you, but it's dragging you down with it."

Lin Fan placed another glass of water into Su Xiaoxiao's cold hand and looked at her slightly red eyes.

"Take a couple of sips first to calm yourself down. When the police ask you questions, just tell the truth. Just say exactly what happened. Don't embellish or exaggerate, and don't be afraid."

Su Xiaoxiao held the paper cup in both hands, the steam condensing into tiny water droplets on her eyelashes.

She took a small sip of hot water, and the warm liquid slid down her throat, finally easing the tightness in her chest a little.

Just then, the iron door at the end of the corridor was pushed open.

Accompanied by footsteps, the high-pitched, shrill voice of the goatee-wearing news anchor could be faintly heard:

"I protest! Why are you confiscating my phone?!"

"We are independent media, we have the right to know about news! That old lady started it by hitting people with a shovel, and that woman beat Zhao San'er until she vomited blood, why don't you file a case and arrest them?!"

"You're showing favoritism towards the locals! I'm going to call the inspector to complain about you!!"

This was immediately followed by a calm and authoritative shout from a police officer:

"Keep your voice down! This is a police investigation area, not your live broadcast studio! What are you shouting for?!"

"State any opinions truthfully in the interrogation record. Any further loud noises or disruptions to office order will be treated as obstruction of official business! Go inside and sit down!"

With a loud bang, the heavy iron door slammed shut again, cutting off most of the ear-piercing noise.

Hearing the commotion, Old Liu spat on the ground and said, "You bastard, you're still barking around even at the police station. Do you really think you're the boss of the world just because you're holding up a crappy cell phone?"

About five or six minutes later, Officer Zhang came out of the case-handling corridor on the first floor, holding several blank case files in his hand.

He had taken off his police hat, and a thin layer of sweat glistened on his forehead; his expression was very serious.

Walking up to the bench, Officer Zhang's gaze swept over the four people's faces, then he waved the folder in his hand:

"Get up, everyone. The lobby is too noisy with people coming and going. Let's go to the second mediation room on the second floor to make a statement."

The group followed Officer Zhang up the cement stairs to the second floor.

The mediation room was small, with a long, dark wooden table in the middle and several cushioned chairs on each side.

A water dispenser was running in the corner, and the window faced the snow-covered carport in the backyard of the police station.

"Please sit down."

Officer Zhang sat down at the head of the long table, next to a young police officer who had been in charge of data entry.

Old Liu and Aunt Wang sat on the left, while Lin Fan and Su Xiaoxiao sat on the right.

Officer Zhang opened the interrogation record sheet on the table, removed the cap from the black pen, and looked up at Su Xiaoxiao:

"According to the case-handling procedures, we'll verify your identity first. Do you have your ID card with you?"

"I brought it."

Su Xiaoxiao put down the paper cup in her hand, took out an ID card from the small pocket of her sweater, and handed it over with both hands.

Police officer Xiao Li took it and swiped it lightly on the police communication device next to him.

A soft "beep" sounded.

Detailed population register information popped up on the portable screen. Xiao Li glanced at it, then his fingers, which were typing on the keyboard, suddenly paused.

He looked up with some surprise, glanced at the rather thin girl sitting in the chair, then turned to Officer Zhang and reported in a low voice:
