Courtyard House: My Time Travel is a Bit Too Strong
Chapter 661 Kick the Zongzi Away
Wang Kaixuan grabbed the bottle and was about to go over when Hu Bayi reached out and pressed the bottle down, placing it on the table: "Don't move yet."
Seeing the two get up and walk in that direction, Lin Quan put down his cup and followed them at a leisurely pace.
After a few words, the foreigner pulled the translator up and left the room, his voice fading away on the spot.
After weighing the options, Big Gold Tooth realized that there were three opponents and he only had two men. He had no chance of winning in a head-on confrontation, so he had no choice but to back down.
The jade was brought back, and the three returned to the table. The hot pot was boiling, and laughter and banter continued.
Lin Quan paid the bill.
Less than half an hour after returning to Wang Kaixuan's residence, a series of hurried footsteps sounded outside the courtyard gate.
Big Gold Tooth arrived with his men.
Hu Bayi didn't lift a finger; he simply placed the compass on the table and casually chatted about feng shui. Big Gold Tooth stared at the bronze compass for a long time, then suddenly smiled and said, "It's my treat today."
A few days later, Lin Quan accepted Wang Kaixuan's invitation, shouldered an old canvas bag, and boarded a train heading north.
"The Qi and Blood Crystal has been refined, and the Dragon Elephant Undying Technique has steadily entered the fifth level."
"The soul crystal has been fused, and the Refining Spirit realm is equivalent to that of a Foundation Establishment cultivator."
Hu Bayi had no intention of going into tomb raiding, but he was penniless and heartbroken. Many of his comrades had fallen, and he wanted to help their families.
He was familiar with Niuxin Mountain... He had been there during his time as an educated youth, and there were many old things buried in the gullies. He figured that becoming a middleman, buying and reselling old goods wouldn't be illegal, and he could still make some real money.
After traveling for several days, the three finally arrived at the village entrance.
The plan fell through: the few old things that had been passed down for generations in the village had long been cleared away by the archaeological team.
Hu Bayi and Wang Kaixuan squatted on the stone mill at the village entrance and smoked half a pack of cigarettes in silence. Finally, Wang Kaixuan stubbed out his cigarette and said, "The Japanese devils built fortifications here back then, digging more diligently than rats. If there's anything left, it's probably there."
Lin Quan nodded: "They even dismantled the stoves in the places they raided and took them back to smelt iron. They might have missed something even in the military fortress."
"Let's go, let's try our luck." Hu Bayi smiled.
"Okay," Wang Kaixuan replied readily.
The next morning, Hu Bayi brought three horses from a villager's house. Wang Kaixuan mounted one of the horses, grinned, and started humming a tune, completely off-key. Before long, Yingzi caught up on a chestnut horse, its hooves kicking up dust.
While resting, Wang Kaixuan said he needed to relieve himself by the edge of the woods and unload some of his belongings. Just as he bent down, a wild boar burst out of the bushes, its tusks aimed straight at his thigh.
Lin Quan tossed his backpack aside, drew his short knife, and slashed diagonally at the wild boar. Blood spurted from the boar's neck, it staggered a few steps, and collapsed to the ground, its hooves twitching.
Hu Bayi stared at the pool of blood on the ground, remaining silent for a moment.
Yingzi jumped off her horse, took two steps closer, and stared wide-eyed: "Brother Quan, you... you really did it?"
Wang Kaixuan wiped the sweat from his face: "I almost called for my mother just now."
Lin Quan flicked the blood off his knife: "What should we do with this pig?"
"Roast them. Eat as much as you can, and dry the rest and take them back," Hu Bayi decided.
"Okay." Lin Quan didn't ask any more questions, and simply sheathed the knife.
It was completely dark when the four of them lay down around the fire.
Yingzi stood up: "I'll go gather some firewood."
Wang Kaixuan immediately sat up straight: "I'll go with you and take care of things."
"Forget it, you're not even as good as a dog." Yingzi didn't turn her head, flicked her whip, and disappeared.
Wang Kaixuan opened his mouth, but ultimately remained silent.
Lin Quan also stood up, picked up his short knife, and walked deeper into the woods.
Hu Bayi took out a compass, and the needle wobbled slightly.
Wang Kaixuan leaned closer: "Old Hu, is there any movement?"
"There's something down there, a large tomb," Hu Bayi said in a low voice.
Before the words were finished, a scream came from afar, followed by a crisp gunshot.
Lin Quan turned around and ran over, only to see Yingzi standing on a collapsed slope, her face pale.
"What happened?" Hu Bayi followed.
Yingzi caught her breath and led them around a pile of rocks... The ground was covered with bones, layer upon layer, scattered all over the place.
Lin Quan stepped on a skull, and with a crack, it shattered into several pieces.
"The Japanese are so weak-willed, they'll be buried for at least thirty or forty years."
Wang Kaixuan picked up a rusty military knife, while Hu Bayi pulled out a leather-bound notebook with brittle pages and messy handwriting.
Lin Quan didn't get closer to look; he just stood a few steps away, hands in his pockets, listening quietly.
The next morning, they dug down a few feet through the tunnel and suddenly a glass-like dome appeared above them, gleaming with a bluish-gold light in the sunlight... the Tianbao Dragon Fire Glass Dome.
Hu Bayi took a half step back, his throat a little dry: "This kind of roof seals the main burial chamber; the commotion below won't be small."
Before she could finish speaking, Yingzi slipped and fell into a hidden vertical hole next to her.
Without hesitation, Lin Quan followed Hu Bayi and Wang Kaixuan inside.
The tomb entrance was right next to him. Wang Kaixuan grinned and handed Yingzi a black donkey hoof: "Here, to calm your nerves."
Hu Bayi waved his hand: "Don't try it, someone has already walked by."
The flashlight beam cut through the darkness, and the four filed in.
Lin Quan held the lamp in his left hand and the knife in his right. His gaze swept over the murals on both sides without stopping or commenting.
Upon entering the second stone chamber, a long spear, a shield, and a vase were neatly arranged on the floor.
He squatted down, casually tapped the bottom of a celadon bottle, and weighed it in his hand: "It's earthenware, not from an official kiln."
Touching the other one, my fingertips brushed against the crackled glaze, and I lifted the bottom to examine it closely: "Two pieces from the Yuan Dynasty, genuine."
He wrapped the bottle in a cloth and stuffed it into his backpack. Just as he straightened up, a cold arrow came flying through the air. Lin Quan swung his knife in a backhand motion and knocked it away with a "clang".
It was Wang Kaixuan who carelessly bumped into the base of a bronze crane in the corner of the wall.
During the retreat, he slipped and his elbow struck a protrusion on the rock wall...
The ground trembled, and a black lacquered coffin slowly rose from the ground.
Hu Bayi quickly adjusted the compass and aligned it with the direction: "Fatty, light the candle."
Lin Quan closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them again, a glint of light flashed in his eyes as he swept over the left wall: "Hollow wall, right here, we'll split it open later."
He took out a cigarette, lit it, leaned against the stone pillar, exhaled a puff of white smoke, and quietly watched Hu Bayi and Wang Kaixuan pry open the coffin lid.
Wang Kaixuan lifted the mask, then carefully put it back, reached into the coffin, and took out two warm jade pendants.
Lin Quan casually stuffed the bronze mask into his bag.
Suddenly, with a soft "poof," the candle in the corner went out.
Hu Bayi immediately shouted in a low voice, "Fatty! Brother Quan! Put the things down!"
"What are you putting in? The candles are damp." Wang Kaixuan gripped the jade pendant tightly, refusing to let go.
Lin Quan stubbed out his cigarette and threw his backpack on the ground: "Old Hu, I've practiced external martial arts, but I've never seen a live zombie before. Today will be a good opportunity to broaden my horizons."
The newly lit candle leaped high and instantly turned a ghostly green.
The coffin lid was flung open with a bang, and a figure in black sat up inside. His movements were stiff but quick, and in the blink of an eye, he blocked the exit.
Wang Kaixuan's voice tightened: "Old Hu, let's reason with it? Return the goods, and we'll back out the way we came..."
Before he finished speaking, Lin Quan had already stepped forward, straightened his right leg, and kicked the rice dumpling in the chest.
