The burly man with a thick beard was named Ma Gaoqiang, the second-in-command of the logistics department and Zhao Tianxiong's trusted confidant.
He took a step closer to Lin Feng, his finger almost poking Lin Feng's nose.
"Kid, Lieutenant Zhao is dead. What the hell were you doing last night?"
Lin Feng looked down at the overturned lunchbox on the ground; the rice was still steaming.
Pity.
He got another meal.
When Ma Gaoqiang returned with his lunchbox, he was still standing there, followed by five people from the logistics department, all of whom had stern faces.
"I'm talking to you! Are you deaf?"
Ma Gaoqiang grabbed Lin Feng's shoulder.
Lin Feng raised his hand.
The entire lunchbox, including rice and soup, was smeared all over Ma Gaoqiang's face.
Scalding soup dripped down his neck. Ma Gaoqiang screamed, took two steps back, and reached out to wipe the rice grains off his face.
"Ah!!! You fucking!"
Before he could finish cursing, Lin Feng's fist had already smashed into his chest.
boom!
Ma Gaoqiang flew three meters away, his back slamming into a pillar in the cafeteria. He spat out a mouthful of blood and foam mixed with rice grains, which looked quite comical.
He is an eighth-dan martial arts student.
Lin Feng is a second-level martial artist.
With that punch, Ma Gaoqiang's sternum was fractured in at least three places.
The five people behind him rushed forward at the same time.
Lin Feng didn't even draw his knife.
With his left hand, he parried the first man's fist, and with his right elbow, he struck the second man in the temple. The man's eyes rolled back, and he went limp.
The third person kicked from the side, and Lin Feng raised his foot to meet it.
Snapped!
The sound of a broken shinbone echoed throughout the entire cafeteria.
The fourth person was clever; he pulled out a dagger.
Lin Feng stepped forward, grabbed the man's neck with one hand, and slammed him onto the table.
The fifth person was about to move.
Lin Feng turned around and glanced at him.
The man's foot was rooted to the spot, and he simply couldn't take a step forward.
Four seconds before and after.
All five of them collapsed to the ground.
There were dozens of people in the cafeteria, their chopsticks hanging in mid-air, their mouths full of food but they had forgotten to chew.
Raymond Lam released his hand and clapped his palms.
Ma Gaoqiang leaned against a pillar, clutching his chest, the blood still flowing from his mouth.
"You're finished. Lieutenant Zhao has connections."
"Zhao Tianxiong is dead."
Lin Feng's voice wasn't loud, but the cafeteria was so quiet that everyone could hear him clearly.
"He's been reselling military supplies for three years, and I've already given the ledgers to Instructor Chen. The transfer records and buyer lists are all in there, one by one."
Ma Gaoqiang's expression changed instantly.
It wasn't anger, it was fear.
"He sold those healing pills, three hundred of them, for two million four hundred thousand last November." Lin Feng squatted down to be at eye level with Ma Gaoqiang.
"Nineteen men on the front lines died because they ran out of medicine. You know that, right?"
Ma Gaoqiang opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
"The forms you handled all have your signature on them."
Upon hearing these words, Ma Gaoqiang's body visibly trembled.
Two of the logistics staff nearby collapsed to their knees on the spot.
"Brother Lin, it has nothing to do with me, I'm just a gofer."
"Me too, I've never even seen what an account book looks like."
Lin Feng stood up and glanced around.
"By today, hand over all that junk Zhao Tianxiong has in your possession. Whoever hands it over, I won't pursue the matter further. Whoever hides it..."
He looked down at the dagger on the table.
You don't need to finish your sentence; the meaning is conveyed.
At the entrance of the cafeteria, Chen Lie, who had arrived at some point, leaned against the door frame with his arm crossed over his chest and his face expressionless.
He glanced at the five people lying on the ground, then at the two kneeling, and finally fixed his gaze on Lin Feng.
"You're being a bit too rough."
"I'm just here to have breakfast."
Chen Lie's lips twitched, but he didn't laugh.
"Okay. Let's go back after we eat. The people upstairs will arrive at noon."
Lin Feng got another meal, and this time no one dared to touch his lunchbox.
He sat down and quietly finished his meal.
When they returned to the barracks, Wang Tie was waiting at the door.
"I heard you beat up Ma Gaoqiang in the cafeteria?"
He lifted my lunchbox first.
"Then we should fight." Wang Tie rubbed his hands together and lowered his voice. "Instructor Chen just talked to me and asked about Zhao Tianxiong. I told him everything I knew. He said that the higher-ups will send someone to handle it, and that we shouldn't cause any trouble these next few days."
Lin Feng entered the barracks and pulled a cloth bag from under the bed.
Inside were nearly a hundred magic cores of various sizes that had been collected over the past few days, along with Zhao Tianxiong's dark short sword and the remaining nine Body Tempering Pills.
"Old Wang, is there a black market in the North?"
Wang Tie blinked.
"You want to ship the goods?"
"These things are too hot to handle. The source of the Body Tempering Pills is shady, and having too many magic cores is also conspicuous. Let's get rid of them while the camp is in chaos."
Wang Tie leaned closer, looked at the contents of the cloth bag, and gasped.
"Nine Body Tempering Pills? That's all left?"
"Um."
"If this batch of goods is sold in full, it will be worth at least a million."
Wang Tie swallowed hard, his eyes darting around.
"There is a black market. It's located 12 kilometers northwest of the camp, in an abandoned mine. It opens every three days. Today happens to be the opening day."
"Walk."
"Wait a minute." Wang Tie stopped him. "The black market is a mixed bag; all sorts of people come there. Bringing things there isn't hard; the hard part is coming out alive with the money."
"Last time, a veteran took an E-grade magic core to sell. He went in perfectly fine, but came out with only one shoe left."
Lin Feng slung the cloth bag over his shoulder.
"Then we'll see who's tougher."
Wang Tie sighed, turned around, and pulled a tattered cloak from under the bed, tossing it to Lin Feng.
"Wear this. It's the rule in the black market; you can't show your face when you go in."
The two changed their clothes and, taking advantage of the chaos in the camp, climbed over the wall on the west side.
Li Ming chased after Wang Tie to the door, but Wang Tie pushed him back down.
"You stay here. If anyone asks, just say we went out on patrol."
Li Ming nodded, then hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but stopped himself.
"Brother Lin, be careful."
Lin Feng waved his hand without turning his head.
After leaving the camp, the two made a quick trip along the edge of the wilderness.
After walking for about an hour, a huge abandoned mine came into view.
The mine pit is at least several hundred meters in diameter and more than ten meters deep.
The bottom of the pit was brightly lit.
Wang Tie stopped, took out two iron plates from his pocket, and handed one to Lin Feng.
"I got the admission tickets through an old connection, one yuan each. Once inside, keep quiet and don't haggle too much during transactions; those guys have big tempers."
Lin Feng took the iron plate and flipped it over.
A crooked symbol was engraved on the iron sheet, like some kind of code.
The two walked down the steps on the pit wall.
The further down you go, the more people there are.
Figures dressed in various cloaks moved between the caves, some carrying cloth bags, some carrying boxes, and occasionally the aura of a few martial arts masters could be seen passing by.
The open space at the bottom of the pit was filled with stalls.
Magic cores, elixirs, weapons, spiritual materials, and even information is being sold.
Wang Tie turned into a side alley with practiced ease and stopped in front of an inconspicuous cave.
"Old Qian, are you there?"
A hoarse voice came from inside the cave.
"Who?"
"Your Grandpa Wang Tie."
A series of splashing sounds followed.
A gaunt old man poked his head out of the cave, looked Wang Tie up and down, and then glanced at Lin Feng.
"Did you bring a stranger?"
"My own brother."
Old Qian hesitated for a moment, then stepped aside.
The cave was much more spacious than the outside. The walls were covered with various weapon and material samples. In the middle was a stone table with a sophisticated weighing instrument and a detector for inspection on it.
Lin Feng placed the cloth bag on the table and untied it.
Old Qian came over and immediately fixed his eyes on the nine Body Tempering Pills.
He stretched out his hand and then pulled it back, repeating this twice.
"Body Tempering Pill? Where did you get that?"
"What's it to you?" Wang Tie put his legs up on the stone table.
Old Qian looked at the dark short knife again.
I picked it up and examined it, tapped the blade with my fingernail, and listened to the sound.
"Good stuff, forged from black iron bone, an E-grade short sword, market price 300,000."
He put down the knife and began to examine the magic cores one by one.
After the examination, Lao Qian remained silent for more than ten seconds.
"Nine Body Tempering Pills, market price 900,000, I'll give you 700,000. One Black Iron Bone Short Sword, 250,000. 98 Demon Cores, varying in size, totaling 180,000."
"Total price: 1.13 million."
Lin Feng spoke up.
"One million two hundred thousand."
Old Qian looked up at him and frowned.
"Young man, I've already been very fair..."
Lin Feng pushed up the hood of his cloak, revealing half of his face.
"One million two hundred thousand, cash payment."
Old Qian looked at his excessively youthful face and sensed the aura emanating from him.
Two stages of martial arts?
He tapped his fingers on the table a few times.
"make a deal."
