Peninsula: From Water Injection to Stardom

Chapter 142 Five million for an exclusive?

After the news of his ranking spread widely, Jiang Yan received many congratulations.

From girlfriends to celebrities I've only met once but added as friends.

Jiang Yan responded to these messages in tiers, of course.

For people he doesn't know very well, he basically just gives a simple, polite thank you.

Jiang Yan was naturally aware of the public opinion in South Korea over the past two days.

Jiang Yan, while not explicitly supporting his fans' beating of Aili, was also very supportive.

Those clueless, data-illiterate people who are completely oblivious to their own incompetence deserve a severe beating.

Of course, he also saw that many EXO-Ls were still holding back their energy, hoping that EXO would defeat him head-on this week and take first place to reverse their current disadvantageous situation.

All Jiang Yan could say was: It's over.

With EX0's current popularity on music charts, it's simply a pipe dream to think they can beat this collaboration with Lee Ji-eun.

In his opinion, apart from the uncertain outcome of Music Bank, EXO has no chance of winning first place on any other music show this week.

However, he will not be participating in one of the award-winning live streams this week because it conflicts with his schedule.

After he stopped going, Lee Ji-eun also stopped going.

Neither of them valued this number one ranking very much, since they had both passed the stage of using a number one ranking to prove themselves.

On the contrary, EXO and EXO-Ls really need this person.

The reason is naturally that the third person from the old runner-up also ran away this year, and Brother Effort has also made it clear that he will not follow the team back to China to develop.

Under these circumstances, the general public is pessimistic about EX0, believing that the group's peak has reached its limit and that it will soon begin to decline.

This winter EP is actually EXO's way of proving to the outside world that even if they lose members again, their popularity will not be inferior to their peak.

This is one of the reasons why EXO-Ls were so upset when they learned that Jiang Yan and EXO were in the same cohort.

If they were to lose head-on to Jiang Yan, who has risen rapidly this year, wouldn't that confirm the outside world's view that EXO is on the decline?

Therefore, for Aili, Jiang Yan's sudden release of a new song is simply outrageously malicious.

On December 18th, in the afternoon, Jiang Yan and her team flew to Guangzhou, China, to be special guests at TARA's concert.

After arriving at the hotel, Jiang Yan had only been resting in his suite for a few minutes, chatting with his two partners, when there was a knock on his door.

He got up and opened the door; it was Jiang Zhennan who came in.

"Good news!"

"What good news is it now?"

Jiang Yan no longer felt anything about those three words, and her tone was quite calm when she asked.

"Your men's fashion magazine sold over 5 copies this time, generating over two million yuan in sales. This is arguably the highest single-issue sales record for any magazine in China to date!"

Jiang Zhennan spoke with great excitement, but Jiang Yan remained unmoved after listening.

That's it?

If this data is moved forward a few years, it won't even be ranked.

Even traditionalist Hua Zi once had a record of 4.8 million in magazine sales for a single issue, while Wang Yibo, who is still relatively unknown, once set a record of 25 million.

Compared to these figures, his two million is simply insignificant.

Of course, this is only said in comparison to the future.

In today's context, his record would be considered a relatively small breakthrough.

Because these days, the consumption concepts of domestic fan groups haven't been maliciously distorted, and there are still very few top-tier magazines that can sell millions of copies.

In fact, Jiang Yan wasn't really interested in this record, because he didn't want to put the cart before the horse by playing the top-tier idol game.

If you're going to be a singer, you should be a good singer. A "traffic singer" is still just a "traffic star" and not a true singer.

To reiterate, he wasn't publishing this to fleece his fans, but to show off and highlight his status.

"Is there any other good news besides this?"

Yes, yes.

Jiang Zhennan nodded quickly and continued, "NetEase sent us an email; they want to discuss a collaboration on exclusive copyrights."

"Exclusive? How much will you pay?"

"The offer is five million a year, for a three-year contract."

Five million for an exclusive deal? Are you trying to fob off beggars?

Jiang Yan was speechless when he heard the offer. He was the only person in China to have appeared on the Hot 100, and he was only worth this little exclusive fee?

The other party has granted Bago a non-exclusive sublicense of 870 million yuan a year this year.

However, upon further reflection, he realized that this might also be due to the current market conditions in China not accurately positioning its own prices, and NetEase was probably trying to find a bargain.

"Okay, let's leave NetEase out of the picture for now. Have someone go talk to QQ about the exclusive deal."

As NetEase Cloud Music's most direct competitor, Jiang Yan didn't believe that QQ Music would remain indifferent after learning of the other party's actions.

As someone who has a vision for the future, Jiang Yan naturally prefers to collaborate more deeply with QQ Music.

After all, QQ Music will become the largest music app in China in the future, and it may even collaborate with Billboard.

Moreover, QQ Music will host music awards like TIMA in the future, while NetEase Cloud Music seems a bit like a roadside stall in comparison.

"Okay, I'll talk to the people at the company about it later."

Jiang Zhennan didn't ask too many questions about why; he knew his younger brother's judgment was always right, so he just followed along.

"Oh, by the way, have you had time to look at the house I showed to Mom and Dad?"

Jiang Yan then took the initiative to ask about other things.

Once the Valentino endorsement contract is signed, along with his previous streaming royalties and commercial endorsements, his total income is roughly estimated at eight million US dollars.

This is after-tax calculation, because it does not include the royalties that the company directly deposits into his account, which are already after-tax amounts.

Earning foreign exchange is so satisfying.

Once the Zhong family had money, the first thing they would do was, of course, buy a house.

Jiang Yan plans to buy two apartments, one for his parents and one for himself.

After buying that, he'll use the remaining money to buy a car in South Korea. As for his driver's license, he'll take the test once he's done with this busy period.

"I took a quick look, but I feel it's a bit tricky. There aren't any units for sale in those developments at all."

Jiang Zhennan looked troubled as he spoke, because the properties Jiang Yan had shown him were all high-end residential developments in Shanghai.

Many celebrities have moved into these properties, but there are currently no secondhand homes available for sale on the market.

Jiang Yan wasn't surprised to hear this; it was quite normal.

It's not that there's no connection, it's just that the relationship isn't there yet, so we can't get in touch.

"It's alright, I'll ask Mr. Du later, and if it doesn't work out, we can look at other properties."

He doesn't necessarily have to buy in those places; as long as the money is right, there are plenty of suitable houses in Shanghai.

After finishing this topic, there was nothing else of importance to discuss for the time being. After chatting for a few more minutes, Jiang Zhennan left the room.

Jiang Yan continued to sit on the sofa and chat with the two people.

With only two recipients, he responded to messages with ease.
