Chapter 393 The Forest of Giants
Rift Scale then explained the rules of the Battlefield of the Heavens to the two of them. It was also the first time that Dragon Demon Chakna had entered the battlefield, so he listened very attentively.
The rules are basically the same as what Kal'tsit said, except that Riftscale specifically emphasized the point about the pass—after they use the pass, they will be teleported to a coordinate point in the Battlefield of the Heavens. This coordinate point is both random and not random.
It's considered random because even if three people stand together, their entry points will differ due to each person using their own pass. It's not considered random because people entering from the same place will generally land within a similar area, without being too far apart.
Lie Lin took out another fist-sized, grayish-white stone from his backpack and weighed it in his hand.
"You all have the passes, right?"
Liu Nian and Chakner nodded at the same time.
"Then let's not waste any more words." Lie Lin gripped the stone, his golden vertical pupils sweeping over the two of them. "Remember, the first thing you need to do once you're inside is survive. Don't be reckless, don't act impulsively, or you'll lose everything."
Chakner and Liu Nian also held onto their own.
"Walk!"
In an instant, a tremendous suction force emanated from the stone, as if countless hands were pulling at Liu Nian's body. The space before him began to distort—the barbaric fortress, the distant gray-yellow wasteland, the hazy sky above—everything was like a shattered canvas, turning into countless points of light, and then being sucked into a bottomless vortex.
The world spun around.
When Liu Nian opened his eyes again, he was standing on a piece of land he had never seen before.
The sky was a deep, almost black, purple, like silk soaked in ink. There was no sun or stars in the sky, only enormous, slowly rotating vortexes of energy, like closed eyes hanging from the dome, coldly surveying everything below.
Pale white lightning bolts occasionally struck down from the edges of those vortexes, illuminating the earth below in flashes.
The place where Liu Nian was located was an enlarged version of a forest.
The plants here were all exceptionally tall. He only needed to crouch slightly to perfectly hide among them—the fern leaves were taller than him, and the moss carpeted the ground, thick enough to reach above his ankles. The trees all around were colossal giants, each easily exceeding a hundred meters in height, with trunks so thick that it would take a dozen people to encircle them. In their densest parts, the canopies intertwined high in the sky, forming an impenetrable canopy, with only occasional gaps allowing the purple sunlight to filter through.
As Liu Nian walked among them, he looked like a dwarf entering a kingdom of giants.
This place put him on high alert—he wasn't unfamiliar with Gulliver's Travels, and he knew all too well what this magnified world meant. If even a grasshopper, cricket, or ant were to appear here, its size would be terrifying!
"Are you all in? Let's meet at this coordinate point!" Lie Lin sent a coordinate in the small channel the three of them had temporarily set up.
Liu Nian looked around; of the three, he was the closest to that spot.
"This is your first time here, so be careful!" Riftscale's voice was low, as if afraid of alerting something. "The place we're in is called the Forest of Giants. Here, you can't see any opponent's level, nor do you know if your opponent is a player, a monster, or an NPC! Don't act rashly unless you're absolutely certain! Otherwise, if you get killed, you'll be immediately kicked out of the All-Heavens Battlefield, and your level will be halved! So I suggest you avoid any targets and go directly to the coordinates to wait for the rendezvous!"
Liu Nian and Chakner both replied "I know".
Liu Nian took a deep breath, summoned the colossus, and released the Sun Devourer from it.
Let's go!
Liu Nian certainly didn't come unprepared.
When he recruited the Demon Bear Clan, besides valuing their combat prowess, the most important factors were his "Dual King Bond" with Devourer of the Sun and Devourer of the Sun's "Heart of Truth".
In a hellish place like the Battlefield of the Heavens, this thing is more effective than any divine artifact.
The Sun Devourer trod on the thick moss, its bear face filled with shock: "This is the Battlefield of the Heavens?"
"This place is called the Forest of Giants," Liu Nian whispered. "Everything here is huge. Let's go, let's head towards this coordinate."
The two, one in front of the other, pushed aside the thick grass and headed towards the coordinates of the cracked scales.
This enlarged version of the forest was eerily quiet. There were no birdsong, no insect chirps, not even the sound of wind. The enormous leaves hung motionless in mid-air, as if time had frozen. A damp scent permeated the air, mixed with some indescribable, fishy smell.
The silence was unsettling, as if you didn't know where the danger might come from.
After walking for a while, Shi Ri suddenly stopped and slammed his bear paw on Liu Nian's shoulder. The two hid in the bushes.
Something was moving on the treetop of a giant tree not far away.
Shi Ri squinted, his pupils shrinking to a thin line, and looked closely—it was a flock of birds.
Each one was as big as an adult bull, completely black, with feathers that reflected a cold light like iron plates, and edges as sharp as blades.
They perched on the treetops, some sleeping with their eyes closed, others pecking at their feathers with their heads tilted to the side, and occasionally one or two would spread their wings, their wingspan reaching over ten meters, casting shadows that could cover half a basketball court.
Shi Ri glanced at it once, and his expression changed. He quickly covered his mouth and nose, and said in a voice only the two of them could hear:
"Level 760 monsters!"
Liu Nian's pupils contracted.
760 levels?
Just some broken birds?
He instinctively clenched his fist, then slowly relaxed it. Thankfully, he didn't act impulsively—otherwise, even a simple attack from the opponent would have been incredibly powerful, the damage incalculable. The main concern was that if this thing really was a crow or something, with a terrifyingly loud voice, he didn't know what it might attract if they started fighting.
The flock of crows—if those things could still be called crows—didn't see the two people lurking in the grass. They were too comfortable, too comfortable to be alert to anything around them.
Liu Nian and Shi Ri exchanged a glance, swallowed hard, and stealthily crouched down, using the grass as cover to slip past under the tree canopy.
The two walked for about two hundred meters in one go, until the canopy was completely covered by other tree canopies and disappeared behind them, before they dared to relax a little.
Shi Ri wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, and just as he was about to say something, he suddenly grabbed Liu Nian again.
"Don't move." His voice was as tight as a taut string.
Devouring Sun stared intently at a seemingly normal patch of grass ahead, its bear paws trembling slightly. It was a patch of intertwined vines, dark green, indistinguishable from the surrounding vegetation, with a few inconspicuous little white flowers blooming on it, and even a few glistening dewdrops hanging on them.
"Level 520. Deadly poisonous man-eating vine."
