Chapter 536 Bone King
Kalon pondered for a moment and said, "There is no priority for the others, but Master, since you are going to the Southern Subcontinent, we should kill Bone King Saron first. He occupies the 'Tranquil Fortress,' where there is a teleportation node leading to the Southern Subcontinent."
Liu Nian accepted Kalon's advice and, under his guidance, headed toward the Tranquil Fortress.
On the way, Liu Nian asked Kalon many questions. For example, when he was in the Realm of Sin, he also found a large number of Deathly Spheres on the small island where the Boundary Wood existed. Kalon said that they might have been left over from the S4 season war.
Similar to the ruins of Ascalon.
As for whether there was any connection between the Fogborn, the Council of Eternal Darkness, and the Lake of Eternal Darkness, Kalon thought for a long time but still couldn't remember what the Fogborn and the Council of Eternal Darkness were.
It is speculated that he was one of the races that entered Cyber Hell after his true body perished, and it is most likely just a coincidence.
When Liu Nianfei got tired on the way, Kalon summoned his skeletal whale, which carried Liu Nian and Arachne towards the Tranquil Fortress.
Liu Nian originally planned to summon the giant, the Void Giant Kun, which was larger, faster, and stronger in defense, and wouldn't need to be exposed to wind while sitting inside its belly.
But the Big Mac absolutely refused to let Charon stand on its head, let alone go inside its belly.
So Caron had no choice but to summon his skeletal whale to be his personal driver.
"Master, the Tranquil Fortress is thirty miles ahead." Kalon's voice drifted from the whale's head, carrying a hint of suppressed excitement.
Liu Nian squinted, looking towards the distant, greyish-white wasteland. There, a dark outline was faintly visible, like a giant beast crouching on the wasteland. Towering walls and towering buildings stood tall, and black flags fluttered in the wind.
"Kalon, lure Ainz out first, preferably out of the city. Then it will be much easier for me to take him down directly."
"Yes, ma'am."
On the walls of the silent fortress, the undead sentinels spotted the enormous figure approaching.
The alarm shattered the silence of the wasteland. Black banners fluttered wildly in the wind, and as if by magic, a dense swarm of defenders appeared on the city walls—skeleton archers, death knights, liches, and abominations, layer upon layer, like a gray-white wave.
Then, a huge figure emerged from the depths of the fortress.
He was at least twelve meters tall, his entire body covered in dark gold bone armor, each piece of which was engraved with twisted necromantic runes. The runes flowed with dark red light in the gaps between the bone armor, like angry veins of blood.
He wore a crown made of countless tiny skulls, with a fist-sized dark purple gem set in the center. Inside the gem, one could vaguely see countless twisted faces struggling and roaring.
The most striking feature is his weapon, a scythe similar to Charon's Death God form. However, unlike Charon's Death God form, this is a bone scythe, its blade forged from three curved dragon ribs, its edge gleaming with a chilling light. Dark purple necromantic energy coils around the scythe's handle, snakes crawling up the handle to the blade, condensing at the tip into tiny, pulsating dark red specks of light.
Saron strode up the city wall, dark red will-o'-the-wisps erupting from his eye sockets like two burning embers. He looked down at the slowly approaching skeletal whale in the distance, and the tattered black-robed figure atop the whale's head.
"Karon?" Saron's voice was deep and heavy, carrying an undisguised surprise and sarcasm. "Who do we have here? It's you, you stray dog! I thought you were long dead!"
He let out a piercing sneer, twirled the bone scythe halfway in his hand, and touched the ground with the tip of the blade, sending up a string of sparks.
"To be honest, you should die. The way you look now... tsk tsk, you've utterly tarnished my image of you. The former ruler of the undead, the agent of death, the creator of the era of zombification—and this is it? A rotten whale, wearing a robe more tattered than a beggar's?"
Saron shook his head, and the dark red will-o'-the-wisp flickered twice, as if expressing some kind of disappointment.
"Disgrace, Caron, what a disgrace!"
Kalon stood atop the whale's head, his tattered black robes fluttering in the wind. His face was expressionless—a half-skull, half-rotting face was inherently devoid of expression. But in his single eye, burning with a ghostly blue flame, rage raged fiercely.
"Saron," Karon's voice was eerily calm, "Do you know why you're sitting in that position?"
Saron's laughter paused for a moment.
"Because I gave you your first territory, because I bestowed upon you the title of Lord of the Dead, because I saved your shattered soul from the demons of the abyss." Kalon spoke each word slowly, each syllable like a blunt knife slicing across Saron's bone armor. "Without me, you would still be wailing in the lava pools of the abyss."
Saron's laughter completely disappeared.
"That was before." His voice turned cold, and dark red will-o'-the-wisps exploded violently. "Now, I am the Bone King. I am the master of the Silent Fortress. I am one of the rulers of the Eastern Continent of the Underworld. And you—" He raised his bone scythe, the tip pointing at Karon, "long since fallen to the dust, you are nothing. Your era has long passed, you should have died as a king!!"
Kalon did not refute, he simply looked at Saron in silence, the will-o'-the-wisp in his single eye flickering slowly.
"So, why did you come back?!"
Saron tilted his head, twirling his bone scythe in his hand. "Bringing you this wretched whale, are you perhaps here to challenge my Silent Fortress? Karon, have you been hiding for too many years? Has your brain rotted away?"
Charon did not answer; he simply raised his pale bone staff, the tip pointing at Saron.
A dark purple death ray shot out from the tip of the staff, heading straight for Saron's face.
Saron merely tilted his head slightly, and the death ray grazed his crown, blasting a huge crater in the city wall behind him.
Saron laughed: "Is this all you've got?"
Charon remained silent, his bone staff flashing as three more death rays shot out. Saron easily dodged them, then swung his bone scythe, unleashing a dark red blade that instantly struck the skeleton whale, severing one of its ribs.
"Too weak, Charon. You're too weak." Saron shook his head. "You're not even worthy of my attention."
Caron sighed, "It seems coming here today was a mistake. I thought you were the weakest of the thirteen kings back then, but I never expected... Oh well, I'll let you, this shameful traitor, live for a few more centuries!"
After saying that, Caron turned and left.
Ainz Ooal Gown was furious.
Caron's words deeply stung him.
What? The weakest of the thirteen kings?
What a shameful traitor!
You want me to live for a few hundred more years? With your abilities?
You're a useless person who thinks you can just come and go as you please? What do you take this place for?
"Trying to run?" Saron sneered and took a step to chase after him.
He didn't walk fast, but each step covered dozens of meters.
The bone sickle dragged behind him, ploughing a deep furrow in the parched wasteland.
Saron didn't need to call any of his men to deal with a down-on-his-luck, stray dog; he could handle it all by himself.
