Chapter 541 has been discovered.
Lesnesk held her ceramic cup, listening and occasionally interjecting a few words.
Feeling that was enough, he asked one last question: "Is this town different from other cities? For example, what are its unique features?"
The players thought for a moment and said, "There's not much difference, except for the love of collecting blood. Other than that, it seems the only difference is that the quest rewards here are a bit higher than elsewhere. And when collecting materials, you can get 20% more in Black Coffin Town."
Rethenesk nodded. "I heard from you guys that they've been collecting blood or something here. Where do you get those kinds of quests?"
"It was sent by an NPC under the acting mayor named Corey, who is also a lich. He usually stays at the warehouse in the north of town. However... that quest doesn't come every day; you have to wait."
"Corri." Rethenesk wrote down the name.
He sat for a while longer, then made an excuse to leave.
Back at his table, the Death Knight leaned over and whispered, "Boss, what's up? You're going to do that quest?"
Rethenesk glanced at him, but didn't answer. She simply said, "Let's go and take a look north of town."
Warehouse area north of Black Coffin Town.
Several figures are moving.
At the front was a level 420 lich NPC dressed in a black robe, followed by four undead warriors. In the middle of these four undead warriors were three people being held captive: two humans and one elf, who also appeared to be NPCs.
Their hands and feet were bound by dark red rune chains, and glowing seals were pasted over their mouths, preventing them from making any sound except for whimpering noises from their throats.
The lich NPC led them through a maze of twists and turns to a warehouse, where they stopped. After looking around and finding nothing amiss, the lich NPC took out a key and opened the door.
"Take him in and hand him over to Brookru. Tell him the last six will be delivered later!"
"yes!"
After watching his four subordinates enter, the lich NPC locked the vault door and then turned to leave.
A moment later, six figures emerged from the darkness; it was Rethenesk and her group.
"Boss, isn't that Corey you're looking for?"
"Shalin, try to open this door!" Lethenesk said to one of the female players in the team.
The female player was a level 400 Ghost Assassin. Upon hearing this, she stepped forward, took out her tools, and began to use her lock-opening skill. A moment later, with a click, the lock opened.
The crowd's faces lit up with joy.
"Let's go in and take a look, be careful!"
Behind the door was a warehouse, piled high with miscellaneous items; you could see the whole thing at a glance.
However, the four undead and three living beings that entered here earlier have all disappeared, which clearly indicates that there is something strange about this warehouse.
It was still Charlene. After exploring around, she immediately discovered an unusual protrusion on the wall. When she pressed it, a floor tile moved away automatically, revealing a downward-extending passage.
The group exchanged glances, and Lethenesk cast a group invisibility spell on them. The six of them then silently infiltrated the area.
The passage continued downwards, with a ghostly lamp every few steps on the walls on both sides, its eerie green light casting the passage in a flickering dim light.
As they continued forward, the air became increasingly humid and stuffy, and the smell of blood grew stronger.
Resenesk walked down the passage for about five minutes, and then a light appeared ahead.
At the end of the passage was a huge underground space, and in the very center of the surface was a huge pool of blood.
This thing is soaked in a pool of blood.
That was a heart.
A huge, bizarre heart was still beating, each beat creating a crimson ripple that spread in all directions. Wherever the ripples passed, the runes on the walls would light up, as if in response, or as if breathing.
Standing around the blood pool were NPCs whose faces were obscured by long black robes and black hoods. Each of them held a living person in their hands, and most of them were humans and elves.
They were cutting open the bodies of these living people, using their flowing blood to create a huge blood magic circle around the blood pool.
Lethenesk was no stranger to blood magic.
The undead also use blood magic, but their blood comes from the dead and is cold, congealed, and lifeless. The blood in this magic circle is different—it is warm, fresh, and full of life.
"No wonder..." he muttered to himself.
No wonder this city felt so strange to him. The atmosphere of a city of the dead should be cold, decaying, and filled with the scent of death.
But Black Coffin Town is different. Beneath its chill lies a faint warmth, like a lingering body heat beneath a rotting corpse. That feeling makes every spirit uncomfortable, yet they can't quite pinpoint why.
These black-robed NPCs moved with practiced skill, grabbing the imprisoned creatures and precisely severing their blood vessels and meridians.
Fresh, scalding crimson blood dripped from his body onto the ground, then, guided by some magical force, meandered and flowed across the earth.
"Boss," the Death Knight's voice came from behind Rex, low and menacing, "this place is too eerie. What should we do next..."
Before he could finish speaking, a dull thud came from behind him.
Everyone instinctively turned around.
Behind them, a heavy stone slab fell from above, cutting off the passage and completely blocking their way.
"Damn it!" the ghost assassin Charlene's voice rang out, "We've been discovered!"
At that moment, the black-robed NPCs who were kneeling in front of the node stood up at the same time and began to chant loudly.
They turned around, their movements remarkably synchronized, as if they had rehearsed countless times.
Beneath the hood, pairs of blood-red eyes lit up, like burning embers in the dim underground space.
They pulled back their hoods, revealing pale, bloodless faces.
Its lips were scarlet, and its fangs protruded from the corners of its mouth, gleaming with a cold, eerie light under the glow of the ghost lamp.
They tore off their disguises, and dark red blood gushed from their bodies, coalescing into a translucent layer of blood-red armor. Sharp fingernails extended from their fingertips, like ten daggers. Their eyes were fixed on Lethenesk and his group, a cruel smile playing on their lips, like a pack of wolves hunting their prey.
"You—" Lethenesk took a step back, her pupils throbbing wildly, "You are vampires!"
"You only noticed now?" The leader of the vampires stepped out from the center of the magic circle. It was none other than Corey, the lich NPC who had locked the door and left earlier.
He tore off his black robe, revealing a dark red nobleman's suit with a gold bat emblem embroidered on the collar.
His level jumped dramatically in Lethenesk's true vision, soaring from level 420 to level 580.
"We've been waiting for the six of you!" Corey laughed, revealing two rows of sharp fangs. "Hehehehehe..."
