The next day, when Jiang Xiaochuan woke up, it was already broad daylight.

Sunlight streamed through the windowpanes, casting dappled shadows on the floor. A faint scent of bamboo leaves mingled with the lingering aroma of last night's passion—a slightly cloying, yet not unpleasant, fragrance.

Lu Xueqi had already gotten up and was sitting in front of the dressing table combing her hair. She was only wearing a white undergarment, and her long hair was draped down her back like a piece of black silk.

Jiang Xiaochuan stared at her back for a long time, then propped himself up to sit up. His body was still sore, so he hissed and frowned.

Lu Xueqi heard the voice and turned to look at him.

"Awake?" she asked, her voice a little hoarse but very gentle.

"Hmm." Jiang Xiaochuan responded, lifted the blanket, and tried to get out of bed. As soon as his feet touched the ground, his legs went weak and he almost knelt down. Lu Xueqi reacted quickly and stepped over to support him.

"Slow down," she said, helping him sit down on the edge of the bed.

Jiang Xiaochuan's face flushed slightly, and he said softly, "I'm fine."

Lu Xueqi didn't speak. She knelt down and put his shoes on. Jiang Xiaochuan tried to dodge, but she held his foot down. She moved very gently and carefully, putting the shoes on for him, then straightening his trouser legs. Then she stood up and said:

"Go wash up first, then eat."

Jiang Xiaochuan nodded, stood up, and slowly walked towards the outer room.

After washing up, he returned to his room, where breakfast was already laid out on the table: congee, side dishes, and two steamed buns. Lu Xueqi was sitting at the table waiting for him, and when she saw him come in, she served him a bowl of congee.

The two ate in silence.

Halfway through the meal, Jiang Xiaochuan suddenly remembered something, looked up and said:

"I'll go see my master later."

Lu Xueqi nodded: "I'll go with you."

"No need," Jiang Xiaochuan shook his head. "I can go by myself. You...you go and check on Xiaobai. She drank a lot of alcohol yesterday."

Lu Xueqi paused, then looked up at him.

Jiang Xiaochuan felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze, so he lowered his head and whispered:

"I'm just... a little worried about her."

Lu Xueqi looked at him for a while, then hummed in agreement and said:

"it is good."

After finishing their meal, Jiang Xiaochuan changed his clothes and headed out to Master Shuiyue's residence. Lu Xueqi cleared away the dishes and also went out to Xiaobai's room.

Master Shuiyue's bamboo hut is located deep in the bamboo forest. It is very quiet and surrounded by weeping bamboo. When the wind blows, it rustles. Jiang Xiaochuan walked to the door and knocked.

"Come in," came Master Shuiyue's voice from inside.

Jiang Xiaochuan pushed open the door and went in. Master Shuiyue was sitting by the window reading a book. When she saw him come in, she put down her book and looked up at him.

"Master." Jiang Xiaochuan walked over and bowed.

Master Shuiyue looked him over, her gaze lingering on his face before moving down to his neck, where there was a red mark left by Lu Xueqi last night. Jiang Xiaochuan noticed her gaze, his face flushed, and he subconsciously tugged at his collar.

"Sit down." Master Shuiyue gestured to the chair opposite him.

Jiang Xiaochuan sat down, looking a little awkward. Master Shuiyue poured him a cup of tea and pushed it towards him.

"Thank you, Master." Jiang Xiaochuan accepted the gift, held it in his hands, but didn't drink it.

"Did you need something from me?" Master Shuiyue asked calmly.

"I...I want to go back to Dazhu Peak," Jiang Xiaochuan said softly, "to see my master and mistress."

Master Shuiyue nodded: "That's right. Your master didn't look too good on the wedding day. Go back and see him, and try to comfort him."

"Hmm," Jiang Xiaochuan responded, looking down at the water in his teacup, and remained silent.

The room fell silent for a moment. Master Shuiyue looked at him and suddenly spoke:

"Xueqi...did I bully you?"

Jiang Xiaochuan was taken aback, looked up at her, his face flushed even more, and quickly shook his head:

"No, no, Xueqi...she's very good to me."

Master Shuiyue looked at him for a few seconds, then smiled. The smile was faint and shallow, but there was warmth in her eyes.

"That's good." She said, picking up her teacup, taking a sip, then putting it down. Looking at Jiang Xiaochuan, she lowered her voice, "If she bullies you, come and tell me. I'll teach her a lesson for you."

He was a little embarrassed, lowered his head, and whispered:

"Thank you, Master."

Master Shuiyue waved his hand and said nothing more. Jiang Xiaochuan sat for a while longer, drank some tea, chatted for a bit, and then got up to take his leave.

As he reached the door, Master Shuiyue suddenly called out to him.

"Ogawa."

Jiang Xiaochuan turned around.

Master Shuiyue looked at him with gentle eyes and a gentle voice:

"Live well."

Jiang Xiaochuan nodded emphatically: "Mm."

He pushed open the door and went out. The sunlight shone on him, warm and pleasant. He stood there for a while, took a deep breath, then mounted his spear and headed towards Dazhu Peak.

When Lu Xueqi arrived at the little white house, the door was closed. She knocked on the door, but there was no answer. She knocked again, but still no answer.

She pushed the door open and went in.

The room was dark, the windows were closed, the curtains were drawn, and only a little light shone through the crack in the door, barely enough to make out what was happening. Xiao Bai was sitting at the table with his back to the door, holding a wine jar in his hand, and tilting his head back to drink.

Several empty wine jars were rolling on the ground, leaning to one side or the other. The air was thick with the smell of alcohol, mixed with some other odors, and it smelled a bit sour.

Lu Xueqi frowned, walked over, and took the wine jar from her hand.

Xiao Bai didn't resist and let her take it. She turned her head and looked at Lu Xueqi. Her eyes were a little unfocused, her face was covered in tears, and her hair was messy, with a few strands sticking to her cheeks. She looked at Lu Xueqi for a long time, then tugged at the corners of her mouth and smiled.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice hoarse.

"Drink less," Lu Xueqi said, putting the wine jar aside.

"Why should I?" Xiaobai raised an eyebrow, her tone slightly provocative.

Lu Xueqi looked at her for a few seconds, then said:

He'll be worried.

Xiao Bai's smile froze for a moment, then slowly crumbled. She lowered her head, stared at her hands for a long time, and then whispered:

"He would worry, and then he wouldn't abandon me."

Lu Xueqi was silent for a moment, then sat down at the table, looked at Xiaobai, and said:

"He's just not good with words."

Xiao Bai chuckled, raised his head, and looked at Lu Xueqi with cold eyes:

"Not good with words? When he was in the southern borderlands, he used plenty of sweet talk to flatter me, and I actually believed him..."

She didn't finish speaking before lowering her head again, her shoulders slumping.

Lu Xueqi didn't speak, she just looked at her. The room was very quiet, so quiet that you could hear them both breathing. After a long while, Lu Xueqi finally spoke:

"Drink less, he's really worried about you."

Xiaobai didn't respond.

Lu Xueqi stood up, ready to leave. As she reached the door and placed her hand on the latch, she suddenly heard Xiaobai's voice behind her, very soft and hoarse:

"Is he really... worried about me?"

Lu Xueqi paused, but without turning around, she simply nodded and said:

"real."

After saying that, she pushed the door open, went out, and closed it.

The room darkened again. Xiaobai sat in the darkness, staring at the empty wine jars on the ground for a long time. Then he suddenly smiled. The smile was very light and faint, but there was a glimmer of light in his eyes.

……

When Jiang Xiaochuan returned to Dazhu Peak with his flying sword, it was almost noon. The sun was so bright that it was hard to open one's eyes. He landed on the open ground in front of Shoujing Hall, put away his flying sword, straightened his clothes, and then walked inside.

Inside Shoujing Hall, Tian Buyi was sitting in the main seat drinking tea, while Su Ru sat beside him, holding a needle and thread and sewing something. When Jiang Xiaochuan entered, both of them looked up.

"Master, Mistress." Jiang Xiaochuan walked over and bowed.

Tian Buyi hummed in agreement, put down his teacup, and looked him up and down. Su Ru put down her needlework, stood up, walked to him, took his hand, and looked at him carefully.

"You've lost weight," Su Ru said, her brows furrowing. "Have you been eating poorly?"

"No, no," Jiang Xiaochuan quickly shook his head, "Xueqi...she's a really good cook."

Su Ru smiled then, pulled him to sit down next to her, and poured him a cup of tea.

"Xueqi may seem cold, but she's very thoughtful. We're at ease having you with her," Su Ru said, pushing the teacup towards him.

"Thank you, Master's wife."

Tian Buyi coughed, glanced at Su Ru, and Su Ru understood, stood up, and said:

"Xiao Chuan, come with me, your master's wife has something to tell you."

Jiang Xiaochuan was taken aback and looked up at her: "What is it?"

Su Ru blushed slightly, said nothing, and simply pulled him outside. Tian Buyi coughed again from behind and said:

"Go ahead, listen to your master's wife."

Jiang Xiaochuan was completely confused. He followed Su Ru out of Shoujing Hall and headed towards the backyard.

Su Ru walked in a hurry, pulling him all the way to the door of their bedroom, then pushed the door open, closed it behind her, and bolted it shut.

The room was dark, with only a little light coming in through the window. Jiang Xiaochuan stood at the door, looking at Su Ru, feeling a little flustered.

"Master's wife, what... is wrong?"

Su Ru turned around and looked at him, her face flushing even more. She bit her lip, as if making a great decision, before speaking in a very soft voice:

"Xiao Chuan, you...you and Xue Qi, did you...consummate your marriage?"

Jiang Xiaochuan's face flushed red, and he stammered:

"It's round, it's round now..."

"Then..." Su Ru's face flushed crimson, but she still forced herself to ask, "Do you know... what to do?"

Jiang Xiaochuan was taken aback: "What? How do I do it?"

Su Ru stamped her foot anxiously: "It's...it's about those things between husband and wife..."

Jiang Xiaochuan understood, his face turned bright red, and he quickly said:

"I know, I know, Master's wife, I know everything..."

"What do you know? What do you know!" Su Ru interrupted him, walked up to him, and whispered.

"Your master is too proud to teach you, so I'll have to do it myself. Let me tell you, matters between husband and wife are not as simple as you think. There are many intricacies involved. If you don't handle it properly, not only will it harm your health, but it will also damage your relationship..."

Her voice grew softer and her face redder as she spoke, but she still forced herself to stay calm, took out a small booklet from her bosom, and stuffed it into Jiang Xiaochuan's hand.

"Take this and look at it carefully when you get home. If you don't understand anything, come and ask me. Don't be shy..."

Jiang Xiaochuan looked down at the booklet in his hand. There was nothing written on the cover, but it felt quite thick. His face was so hot that he could fry an egg on it, and his hand holding the booklet was trembling.

"Master's wife, I really know..." he said softly.

"What do you know? What do you know?!" Su Ru glared at him.

"Have you seen it? Have you studied it? Let me tell you, this is no joke. If..."

She went on and on, talking about everything from positions and frequency to precautions and maintenance methods, until Jiang Xiaochuan was completely overwhelmed and his face turned bright red. Finally, Su Ru said she was tired, stopped, took a breath, and looked at Jiang Xiaochuan with a very serious expression.

"Xiao Chuan, your master's wife is an experienced person and knows the ins and outs of this. Xueqi is a strong-willed child, so you should be more accommodating to her, but don't let her run wild too much. If, if she goes too far, come and tell me, and I'll talk to her."

Jiang Xiaochuan's face turned even redder. He lowered his head and whispered:

"Master's wife, Xueqi...she's been very good to me..."

Su Ru looked at him for a long time, then sighed and reached out to ruffle his hair.

"Silly child," she said softly, "Alright, go back now, and remember to read the booklet, okay?"

Jiang Xiaochuan nodded, stuffed the booklet into his pocket like a piece of charcoal, bowed, and turned to leave, but Su Ru called him back.

"Ogawa."

Jiang Xiaochuan turned around.

Su Ru looked at him, her eyes gentle, her voice soft:

"Live well."

Jiang Xiaochuan's eyes welled up with tears, and he nodded emphatically:

"Um."

He pushed open the door and went out. The sunlight was so bright that he squinted. He stood at the door, took a deep breath, and then walked out quickly, as if a ghost was chasing him.

When they reached the front of Shoujing Hall, Tian Buyi was still drinking tea. Seeing Jiang Xiaochuan come out, he coughed, put down his teacup, and said:

"Did your master's wife... make things clear to you?"

Jiang Xiaochuan blushed again and nodded: "I've explained it clearly."

Tian Buyi hummed in agreement and waved his hand, "Go on, go on, live your life well."

Jiang Xiaochuan bowed, turned, and walked out. After taking two steps, he turned back, looked at Tian Buyi, and whispered:

"Master, please...please take care of yourself too."

Tian Buyi paused, looked up at him, stared for a few seconds, then nodded, his voice a little hoarse:

"Okay, go ahead."

Jiang Xiaochuan then turned around and flew away with his spear.

As Dazhu Peak grew smaller beneath his feet, Jiang Xiaochuan looked down, feeling a mix of sadness and warmth in his heart. He touched the small booklet in his pocket, his face flushing red. He quickly removed his hand and focused on controlling his sword.

When Lu Xueqi returned from outside, Jiang Xiaochuan was already there, sitting at the table in a daze. When he saw her come in, he snapped out of his reverie and stood up.

"You're back."

"Mm." Lu Xueqi responded, walked over, sat down beside him, and looked at him. "Have you met Master?"

"I've met her," Jiang Xiaochuan nodded, pouring her a cup of tea. "My teacher's wife... gave me a book."

Lu Xueqi took the teacup, took a sip, and looked up at him: "What book?"

Jiang Xiaochuan blushed and stammered, "It's...it's that kind of book..."

Lu Xueqi understood, a smile flashing in her eyes, but she didn't say anything, only humming in response.

The two drank tea in silence for a while. Jiang Xiaochuan, remembering something, asked:

"Did you go see Xiaobai?"

"I saw it," Lu Xueqi put down her teacup, looked out the window, and said in a calm voice, "I advised her to drink less, but she wouldn't listen."

Jiang Xiaochuan pursed his lips and whispered:

"Is she...is she alright?"

Lu Xueqi turned to look at him, stared for a few seconds, and then said:

"Go and see for yourself this afternoon."

Jiang Xiaochuan was taken aback.

Lu Xueqi stood up, walked to the window, looked outside, her back to him, and said:

She asked you if you were really worried about her.

Jiang Xiaochuan's heart tightened. He stood up, walked to her side, and looked at her profile:

"What did you say?"

"I'm serious," Lu Xueqi turned back to look at him, her eyes calm, "She smiled, and smiled quite happily."

Jiang Xiaochuan felt a sense of relief, but then his heart tightened again. He lowered his head, looked at his hands, and remained silent.

Lu Xueqi looked at him for a while, then reached out and ruffled his hair.

"Go ahead," she said softly, "and explain it to her."

Jiang Xiaochuan looked up at her, his eyes filled with hesitation.

"But……"

"No buts," Lu Xueqi interrupted him, her voice steady. "Some things you have to say yourself."

Jiang Xiaochuan looked at her for a long time, then nodded emphatically:

"Um."

In the afternoon, Jiang Xiaochuan went to Xiaobai's house.

The door was open, and Xiaobai was sitting on the threshold, holding a blade of grass and teasing the ants. She had changed into clean clothes, combed her hair, and washed her face, but her eyes were still a little swollen and her complexion was pale.

Hearing footsteps, she looked up, saw Jiang Xiaochuan, paused for a moment, then tugged at the corners of her mouth and smiled.

"You're here?" she said, her voice still a little hoarse, but much better than in the morning.

"Okay." Jiang Xiaochuan walked over and sat down next to her.

Neither of them spoke, just watching the ants crawling on the grass stems. After a while, Xiaobai finally spoke:

"Do you want to see me drink?"

Jiang Xiaochuan turned to look at her, and she turned to look at him with a serious expression.

Jiang Xiaochuan thought for a moment and said:

"Drinking alcohol is fine, but in moderation."

Xiao Bai smiled, but it was a faint, shallow smile.

"Did you ever like me?" she asked, her voice soft, but every word was like a needle piercing Jiang Xiaochuan's heart.

Jiang Xiaochuan's Adam's apple bobbed. He lowered his head, looked at the ants on the ground, and after a long while, said in a low voice:

"It's all in the past."

Xiaobai's smile froze for a moment, then slowly faded. She turned back, looked at the ants for a long time, and then said softly:

So, you liked him.

It's not a question, it's a statement.

Jiang Xiaochuan remained silent, which was taken as tacit agreement.

Xiaobai laughed again, this time out loud, but the laughter was short and quickly dissipated. She threw away the grass in her hand, clapped her hands, stood up, and looked down at Jiang Xiaochuan.

"Jiang Xiaochuan," she said calmly, "you are really a good person, and I hope you are doing well."

Jiang Xiaochuan looked up at her, and she looked back at him with clear, bright eyes, like the sky after the rain.

"You too," Jiang Xiaochuan said, his voice a little hoarse, "Xiaobai, take care of yourself too."

Xiao Bai looked at him for a while, then nodded and said:

"it is good."

She turned and went inside, closing the door. Jiang Xiaochuan sat on the threshold, staring at the closed door for a long time before standing up and slowly walking back.

……

Two more days passed.

That night, Jiang Xiaochuan and Lu Xueqi lay in bed, chatting idly. When they got to Linglong and Hongli, Jiang Xiaochuan suddenly remembered something and said:

"Those two... I can't keep them on my mind forever, can I? That would leave me with no privacy at all!"

Lu Xueqi hummed in agreement, turned to look at him:

"You want them to come out?"

Jiang Xiaochuan nodded: "There has to be a solution."

Lu Xueqi thought for a moment and said:

"Then call them out and ask them."

Jiang Xiaochuan hummed in agreement, closed his eyes, and called out Hongli's name in his mind.

Hongli came out quickly, leaned against the bedside, and looked at them with a smile:

"What's wrong? Missing me?"

Lu Xueqi frowned, sat up, and looked at her:

"You can't stay in Xiaochuan's mind forever. Is there any way to get you out?"

Hong Li raised an eyebrow, walked to the table, sat down, crossed her legs, and adopted a languid posture.

"Yes, it's not difficult for me to conjure a physical form. As for Linglong... she only has a wisp of remnant soul left. If she comes out, she will dissipate unless a suitable vessel is found."

Lu Xueqi looked at Jiang Xiaochuan, who also sat up and looked at Hong Li:

"Then... what about Linglong?"

Hongli shrugged: "Whatever. Either she stays in your mind, or she finds something to reside in, like a jade pendant or a hairpin or something. But then she can't move around freely; she'll have to follow that thing."

Jiang Xiaochuan pursed his lips and looked at Lu Xueqi. Lu Xueqi was silent for a moment, then said:

"Call Linglong out and ask her."

Hong Li clicked her tongue, raised her hand, and grabbed at the air. A phantom was pulled out from between Jiang Xiaochuan's eyebrows, landed on the ground, and solidified into an exquisite, semi-transparent figure.

Linglong was a little flustered, but quickly calmed down. She looked at Lu Xueqi with a calm expression, but her fingers were twisted together, revealing her nervousness.

Lu Xueqi looked at her for a long time, then spoke, her voice calm:

"Thank you for taking care of Xiaochuan before."

Linglong was taken aback, not expecting her to say that.

Lu Xueqi paused for a moment, then continued:

"As for that matter... never mind, never mind. You... do as you please."

Linglong was stunned for a moment, then she tugged at the corners of her mouth and smiled. The smile was a little bitter and astringent, but more than anything, it was a sense of relief.

"I have nowhere else to go," she whispered, "It's good enough to be able to see him in Xiaochuan's mind."

Jiang Xiaochuan lowered his head and remained silent.

Lu Xueqi took his hand and squeezed it gently.

Hongli looked at this, then at that, and suddenly smiled, saying:

"Lu Xueqi, you really do have the aura of an empress."

Lu Xueqi frowned, looked at her, and didn't say anything.

Hong Li stood up, walked up to her, leaned down, stared into her eyes, and smiled maliciously:

"What, you're not convinced? Let me tell you, I know him better than you do. I know what he likes and dislikes, I know he has a mole on his chest, I know he..."

"That's enough," Lu Xueqi interrupted her, her voice cold.

Hong Li raised an eyebrow, straightened up, and looked at her with her arms crossed:

"What, you're resorting to yelling at me because you can't win an argument? Let me tell you, you can't threaten me. Xiaochuan and I are bound by blood; we share the same fate. If you harm me, you harm him."

Lu Xueqi stared at her with a cold look in her eyes, but didn't say anything.

Jiang Xiaochuan glanced at Lu Xueqi, then at Hong Li, and whispered:

"Sister Hongli, please stop talking..."

Hong Li snorted, turned around and walked to Jiang Xiaochuan's side, reaching out to hug him. Lu Xueqi reacted quickly, pulling Jiang Xiaochuan into her arms and dodging her.

Hongli hugged empty air, but she wasn't angry. Instead, she smiled, leaned over, and hugged them both tightly.

Lu Xueqi froze, about to make a move. Hong Li leaned close to her ear and whispered:

"Hit me, hit me as hard as you want. Anyway, my master and I are both in danger. If you hit me, you're hitting him."

Lu Xueqi stopped moving, gritted her teeth, and stared at her with eyes like knives.

Hong Li laughed even louder, hugged them and shook them, then let go, turned around, transformed into red light, and disappeared into Jiang Xiaochuan's brow, returning to his mind.

Before leaving, he left with the following words:

"Alright, I won't disturb your lovey-dovey time anymore. I'm going to go play with the little fox."

The room fell silent again. Lu Xueqi hugged Jiang Xiaochuan tightly, her body still a little stiff. Jiang Xiaochuan patted her back and whispered:

"Xueqi, don't be angry..."

Lu Xueqi didn't speak, but hugged him tighter, buried her face in the crook of his neck, and said in a muffled voice:

"She bullied me."

Jiang Xiaochuan was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and ruffled her hair:

"No, Sister Hongli just likes to joke around..."

"She just wanted to hug you," Lu Xueqi looked up at him, her eyes a little aggrieved. "I could tell."

Jiang Xiaochuan looked at her, at Lu Xueqi, who was usually aloof and cold, now acting like a child, pitifully complaining. His heart melted completely. He leaned over and kissed her lips, whispering:

"I'll only let you hug me."

Lu Xueqi's gaze softened, and she lowered her head to return his kiss. The kiss lasted a long time before she released him, looked at him, and whispered:

"real?"

"Really." Jiang Xiaochuan nodded, very seriously.

Lu Xueqi smiled, a faint smile, but her eyes shone. She pulled him back into her arms, resting her chin on the top of his head, and whispered:

"That's more like it."
