The tunnel wasn't long, and we soon reached its end, entering another stone chamber.
The room was of medium size. On one side stood many dusty wooden shelves, and on the other side were piles of rusty and broken ironware, including knives, spears, swords, and halberds, most of which were corroded beyond recognition.
At the very top lies a huge iron axe, its entire body rusted, yet it is one of the relatively intact pieces among them.
As the young master of the Ghost King Sect, Biyao had extremely high standards. She glanced at these "junk" items and lost interest. She turned around and walked to the wooden shelf to examine them more closely.
Many compartments on the shelf were labeled, and although the writing was mostly blurry, the names such as "Five Sacred Mountains Divine Halberd", "Moon-Viewing Rope", and "Separation Awl" could still be vaguely discerned.
She was startled; these were all legendary magical treasures with formidable power!
Overjoyed, she quickly checked them one by one.
Unfortunately, most of the shelves were empty shells, leaving everyone disappointed.
She sighed, still unwilling to give up, and carefully searched each compartment. Just when she was about to despair, she found a palm-sized black iron box in an inconspicuous compartment in the last row. And this compartment, unfortunately, had no label on it.
Biyao was delighted and carefully took out the iron box. It was quite heavy in her hand, and when she shook it gently, there was no sound from inside.
She hesitated for a moment, not daring to be careless, placed the iron box on the ground, focused her mind on guard, and took a few steps back.
After making preparations, she carefully used her spiritual power to lift the lid of the box.
Upon pressing it, I discovered that the lid was not locked!
She frowned, her eyes showing even greater wariness.
[Such a secure place, yet these treasured items are unlocked? There must be something fishy going on!]
She gritted her teeth, no longer hesitated, and suddenly lifted the lid of the box!
With a soft "click," the box lid opened, and a thick, inky black gas, emitting a pungent stench, shot out of the box and rushed straight at her face!
Biyao's expression changed drastically. She wanted to retreat, but it was too late. The black energy was too fast and too strange!
Just as the black mist was about to touch her nose, a figure suddenly slammed into her from the side, knocking her away violently!
It was Jiang Xiaochuan! But he couldn't stop in time, and most of his body was hit by that cloud of black gas!
"Hiss!"
The black mist clung to the clothes on his arms and shoulders, immediately producing a corrosive sound and emitting wisps of pungent white smoke.
"It's 'Ancient Corpse Poison'!"
Biyao staggered to her feet, and upon seeing the characteristics of the black aura, she instantly recognized it. Both shocked and enraged, she cursed towards the skull, "You heartless old devil! You've truly turned your heart black, using such an evil object to protect yourself!"
After finishing her tirade, she immediately turned to look at Jiang Xiaochuan, who was standing in front of her, her voice trembling almost imperceptibly: "Are you...are you alright?!"
Jiang Xiaochuan frowned and raised his arm to look at it. Several holes had been corroded in the sleeve, revealing the skin underneath.
The areas on the skin stained with the black aura showed a faint, unnatural bluish-black tinge, but that was all. There was no ulceration, no spread, and even... the pain was very mild.
The bluish-black color was visibly fading, and within a few breaths, only a few faint gray marks remained before disappearing completely.
He moved his arms and then used his spiritual energy to examine his body. There was no obstruction or signs of poisoning.
"It seems... I'm fine." He scratched his head, his tone uncertain. The poison didn't seem to have any effect on his broken body.
Biyao stared intently at him until she was sure that his complexion was normal and his breathing was steady, not feigned. Only then did she slowly exhale the breath that had been hanging in her throat, and a thin layer of sweat broke out on her back.
She didn't say anything more, but just gave him a deep look, her gaze complex and hard to decipher.
Then, she turned her gaze back to the open black metal box.
The box was lined with soft, yellowed silk. On the silk, there was nothing else but a tiny, exquisite bell, about the size of a thumb, golden in color, perfectly intact.
Biyao was stunned, never expecting that the thing guarded by such a vicious thing as "ancient corpse poison" was such an ordinary little bell.
She carefully took out the bell, placed it in her palm, and examined it from left to right. It felt slightly heavy and cool to the touch, and was extremely well-made. The bell seemed to have very faint, barely perceptible patterns on its body, but no matter how she tried to sense it, she could not detect any spiritual energy fluctuations. It was just like an ordinary, skillfully crafted golden bell.
She hesitated for a moment, but finally couldn't resist her curiosity and picked up the bell, pinching the thin iron chain attached to it with her fingers.
"Ding-dong."
A clear, melodious sound, seemingly capable of cleansing the soul, rang out leisurely in the stone chamber that had been silent for eight hundred years, echoing outwards.
Biyao picked up the bell and saw its exquisite design. With her girlish heart, she was delighted by its delicate and lovely appearance. The anger she had felt earlier because Jiang Xiaochuan had almost been injured dissipated. She pinched the bell with her slender fingers and gently shook it.
"Ding... Ding-dong."
The bell rang again, its ethereal and melodious sound particularly clear in the silent stone chamber.
She examined it carefully several more times, but still couldn't sense any spiritual power. It was just like an ordinary, exquisite toy. But then she thought, the black-hearted old man had kept it so carefully, even using ancient corpse poison for protection, so it must be extraordinary. Perhaps she just wasn't good enough at seeing. She would ask her father, the Ghost King, after she got out.
Thinking this way, she felt much more at ease, and the more she looked at the bell, the more she liked it.
So she tied it around her slender waist, and as she turned around, the bell jingled and made a clear "ding-dong" sound. She was very pleased with herself, as if she had obtained a wonderful treasure.
"This is probably a Hehuan Bell." Jiang Xiaochuan, who had been watching silently, suddenly spoke up, his voice flat and devoid of emotion.
Biyao was startled and quickly brought the bell to her eyes. By the dim light of the stone chamber, she carefully examined the inner wall of the bell. Sure enough, on the smooth metal inner wall, three delicate ancient seal characters were engraved with extremely fine strokes.
He, Huan, Ling.
Biyao was overjoyed! It really was the Hehuan Bell! One of the most powerful treasures in the legends of the Demonic Sect! She never expected to obtain it here!
After the initial euphoria, a sense of caution and hesitation quietly crept into my mind.
She subconsciously looked up at Jiang Xiaochuan, who was standing not far away. Would he try to take it? If he wanted to… given his strange body, which had just displayed immunity to the ancient corpse poison, and his monstrous strength, now that she had lost the Heartbreak Flower, she was afraid…
If he wanted to take it, there was nothing she could do. Biyao's fingers tightened slightly as she gripped the bell, casting a shadow over the joy she had just experienced.
Jiang Xiaochuan glanced at the bell, his gaze lingering on her suddenly tense face for a moment before he looked away. He turned and walked out of the stone chamber, leaving behind a curt remark:
"You haven't refined it yet, so you can't use it."
The sound dissipated into the slightly musty air of the stone chamber, and the others had already stepped out of the chamber, their figures disappearing into the shadows of the stalactite forest outside.
