The moment the words "Infatuation Curse" and the four lines of incantation spilled from Biyao's lips.

Jiang Xiaochuan, who had been standing quietly in the shadows not far away as if he were just an observer, suddenly trembled!

He didn't even realize he had moved.

By the time Biyao realized something was wrong and turned to look at him in astonishment, he had already rushed up to her in a few steps, his movements so fast they created a gust of wind.

"Don't look!"

He reached out, not to pull Biyao, but to shield her eyes; his hand was cold and trembling slightly.

Biyao was stunned by his sudden and violent reaction, and subconsciously turned her head to avoid his hand: "What are you doing?"

"Don't look!" Jiang Xiaochuan's voice was even harsher. He reached out with his other hand and almost roughly grabbed Biyao's shoulder, pulling her away from the stone wall without saying a word and pushing her aside. He used his body to completely block her view, separating her from the stone wall engraved with the "Infatuation Curse".

Biyao stumbled from his push, but after regaining her balance, she looked up with surprise and disbelief at his pale, frightening profile so close to hers, and the turbulent emotions still raging in his eyes.

She couldn't understand at all why he would react so...uncomfortably, even if it was just a set of incantations for a martial arts technique, no matter how strange or unorthodox it was.

"You..." Biyao opened her mouth, wanting to ask.

Jiang Xiaochuan seemed to realize that he had lost control.

He took a deep breath, closed his eyes briefly, and when he opened them again, most of the intense emotions in his eyes had been forcibly suppressed, but the aftershocks remained, making his gaze look somewhat frighteningly cold.

He released his grip on Biyao's shoulder, took a half step back, his Adam's apple bobbed, his voice was still a little dry, but he tried to regain his usual tone, only it was more stiff:

"This...this thing is truly vicious."

He pointed to the stone wall, speaking rapidly, as if trying to convince himself, or perhaps explaining: "Do you see that? 'With my blood and body, I offer myself as a sacrifice,' 'Forever fallen into the underworld'... This clearly demands that a woman burn her entire lifeblood and soul to exchange for a mutual destruction! It's harmful to others and doesn't benefit oneself; it's a heretical and twisted path! What's so interesting about it!"

Biyao didn't speak, she just stared at him blankly.

Looking at his hurried explanation, which seemed to be trying to cover something up, at the unnatural paleness on his face, and at the lingering, genuine fear deep in his eyes.

His reaction just now was not simply because he thought the technique was "vicious".

Jiang Xiaochuan felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze, so he turned his head away to avoid her eyes.

After a few seconds of silence, he turned back, looked into Biyao's eyes, and spoke slowly and deliberately, his voice low but carrying an undeniable sternness:

"Listen, Biyao, you absolutely, absolutely must not look at this again, much less memorize or practice it, do you hear me?"

Biyao blinked, her long eyelashes casting a faint shadow on her face.

She suddenly leaned forward a little, tilted her head back, looked at Jiang Xiaochuan's taut jawline, and asked softly, her tone carrying a hint of inquiry and a subtle mischievousness that she herself was unaware of:

"Why are you so nervous? Are you afraid that if I learn this 'love spell,' I might do something rash one day and die for some man?"

Jiang Xiaochuan stiffened again. He abruptly lowered his head, meeting Biyao's eyes, which were so close to his, filled with inquiry and a hint of mockery. Those eyes were still lively, but now they were like two mirrors, as if trying to reflect the most chaotic part of his heart.

He opened his mouth, wanting to refute, to say "No way," to say "Who cares who you die for," but those words stuck in his throat, and he couldn't utter a single syllable.

His silence deepened the inquiry in Biyao's eyes. She didn't press him further, but looked at him thoughtfully, then at the stone wall behind him, and finally, her gaze returned to his face.

Jiang Xiaochuan felt a chill run down his spine from her gaze, and that inexplicable irritability and panic surged up again.

He turned his face away and said in a gruff voice, "...Don't make things up. I just...don't want to see you court death."

Biyao gave a soft "oh" and didn't say anything more. The stone chamber fell silent again, with only the two of them breathing heavily.

……

I don't know how long I stayed in this dark, dripping blood cave.

There was no sunrise or sunset, only eternal darkness and silence. Time became blurred, and could only be roughly judged by hunger and sleepiness.

It was time to rest again. Jiang Xiaochuan walked to the stone room where the sleeping mat was laid out, in a relatively dry and flat corner. There was a thin cotton mattress and a plain cotton quilt.

Unfortunately, there was only one set.

Jiang Xiaochuan looked at the only available sleeping mat on the floor and hesitated for a moment.

He bent down, picked up the bedding, turned around and walked to Biyao, who was sitting on a blue stone not far away, unconsciously fiddling with the acacia bell at her waist. He stuffed the bedding into her arms.

"Here you go," he said, his voice a little muffled.

Biyao, holding the soft, warm quilt, paused for a moment, then looked up at him.

"I don't need it," Jiang Xiaochuan added, then turned and walked to the rock wall on the other side of the stone chamber, sat down against the cold stone, and closed his eyes.

"I can just sit down."

Biyao didn't move.

She hugged the blanket, her fingers unconsciously stroking the soft fabric.

She looked at Jiang Xiaochuan's profile as he leaned against the rock wall, his eyes closed in rest.

His posture was not relaxed, even somewhat stiff, clearly indicating that he was not comfortable.

"Hello,"

Biyao suddenly spoke, her voice exceptionally clear in the silence, tinged with amusement, "Really not going to sleep together? This blanket... is quite big."

Jiang Xiaochuan didn't even blink, and snorted through his nose, "Not sleepy."

Biyao didn't say anything more.

She took the blanket, walked to the edge of the makeshift bed, spread it out, and then crawled inside.

The quilt was indeed very soft, with a fluffy feel from being sun-dried, and it wrapped her up completely, the warmth gradually dispelling the chill of the stone chamber.

She turned to face Jiang Xiaochuan and watched quietly.

Time passed slowly, and only the two of them breathed softly in the stone chamber. Biyao wasn't sleepy and just watched.

As she watched, she noticed that Jiang Xiaochuan's head began to nod slightly, though the movement was very small, but he was clearly trying his best to stay upright.

After a while, his originally straight back relaxed slightly, and he leaned against the rock wall, his breathing becoming even and long.

He fell asleep, he fell asleep sitting up.

Biyao stared at it for a long time.

Then, she gently and silently lifted the blanket, barefoot, and stepped onto the cold stone floor, walking up to Jiang Xiaochuan.

He was fast asleep, his brows slightly furrowed, his long eyelashes casting faint shadows under his eyes, and his lips were pale. Even in his sleep, his body seemed to habitually maintain a defensive posture, but exhaustion ultimately overwhelmed everything.

Biyao bent down and carefully stretched out her arms, one hand going under his knees and the other around his back.

The touch was as expected—cold and heavy, befitting a boy's slender yet muscular build. She took a breath, used some strength, and lifted him up completely.

Jiang Xiaochuan seemed to sense the movement in his sleep, mumbled something, and unconsciously leaned his head against her shoulder, his cool forehead pressed against her warm neck.

Biyao's body stiffened slightly, then relaxed. She picked him up, walked to the edge of the makeshift bed, and gently placed him on it. She then pulled the blanket over him carefully.

After doing all that, she stood by the cot and looked down at Jiang Xiaochuan, who was wrapped in a quilt with only half of his face showing. Asleep, he had lost his usual laziness and occasional sharpness, and appeared unusually quiet, even somewhat... vulnerable.

She stood for a moment, then lifted a corner of the blanket and lay down.

The blanket wasn't big, so the two inevitably ended up close together. Biyao hesitated for a moment, then reached out and gently wrapped her arms around Jiang Xiaochuan's waist, pulling him closer to her.

As she held him, Biyao was puzzled again.

Why is this person so cold? Like jade that can't be warmed up. But strangely, touching this coldness gives her a peculiar sense of peace. She gently rests her face against his neck, smells his clean yet cold scent, and closes her eyes.

I haven't slept this soundly in so long...
