Chapter 104 South China Sea Atmosphere
Although Nantianfang is named "fang" (坊), it is not a fang at all, but rather a group of small islands and a stretch of sea.
These islands are further divided into Dafang, Xiaofang, and Nanfang. Each of the three markets occupies a corner, and from a distance, they look like a string of beads scattered by the sea breeze on the sparkling sea.
Qi Fei's small boat blended in with the thousands of sails and was not conspicuous.
Flying boats come and go in the sky, some soaring through the clouds like birds, others flying in formation like geese.
The sea was even more bustling, with large and small ships crowded together, masts like a forest, sails like clouds, and shouts, yells, and the sound of waves crashing against the sides of the ships all mixed together, buzzing like a pot of boiling porridge.
Goods from both the north and south converge here.
Coral, pearls, hawksbill turtle shells, whale blubber, and other rare and precious treasures unnamed from the depths of the sea were loaded onto large ships here and transported to the lands of Yue, Min, and Yan.
Silk, porcelain, tea, and medicinal herbs from the land were also loaded onto ships here and transported to more distant places that Qi Fei had never even heard of.
They took the little pig to Dafang Island.
The port and docks stretch along the coastline. Behind the docks lies a dense network of streets and alleys, the bluestone slabs worn smooth and shiny by countless footsteps, with shops lining both sides, selling all sorts of things.
Magical artifacts, elixirs, talismans, nautical charts, compasses, ropes, canvas, fresh water, dry rations, and so on... everything you can think of is here; even things you can't imagine are here too.
The streets and alleys crisscross like a spider web, and once you walk in, you can't tell which way is which.
The people on the streets were a diverse bunch.
There were monks in long robes, sailors with bare chests, merchants with headscarves, and fisherwomen carrying bamboo baskets.
And some of them aren't even human!
They witnessed a fish-man walking down the street, his scales shimmering blue in the sunlight, his cheeks puffing out, followed by several followers carrying buckets of water who would occasionally splash water on him, soaking a large area of the street, causing passersby to scramble to avoid him.
Qi Fei and his two companions were dazzled by the sights when they suddenly heard someone shout from ahead.
"The immortal master has arrived!"
The crowds on both sides of the street seemed to be cleaved apart by an invisible knife, automatically parting to both sides.
A bridal sedan chair was carried out from the crowd. The chair was quite large and decorated with a profusion of flowers, including red silk, pink gauze, and golden tassels, which shone brightly in the sunlight.
Inside the sedan chair sat a man with a fair complexion and long beard, dressed in a blue Taoist robe, holding a whisk in his hand. He sat upright, his eyes fixed straight ahead, exuding an air of otherworldly elegance and dignified bearing.
Qi Fei glanced at his cultivation level, then glanced at it again to make sure he wasn't mistaken, and then turned to look at Lei Leilei.
"Looks like a fake monk?" he said.
Lei Leilei nodded, a faint glint of lightning in his eyes: "Not bad."
Qi Fei felt puzzled.
A pseudo-cultivator was called "Immortal Master" in this Nantianfang. He was surrounded by a retinue, carried in a bridal sedan chair, and made way for by the crowd. He acted like a local overlord.
The River God, Zhu Yixin, Ruyan, and Tong Daoren he encountered—were all stronger than him.
This guy, on the other hand, swaggered around in a bridal sedan chair, being carried through the streets, calling out "Immortal Master" at every turn, living a very glamorous life.
"That's it?" he said. "And you call yourself a Celestial Master?"
He was holding the leash, and the little pig, like a puppy, rubbed against Qi Fei's trouser leg, saying cutely, "Boss, don't underestimate them."
"In the South China Sea, there's no such thing as true magic. As long as you have magical power, no matter how you got there, you have it."
"The saying goes, 'Black dog or white dog, a good dog is one that catches its prey.'"
Qi Fei said, "Then if they encounter a true cultivator, wouldn't they be completely powerless to resist?"
The little pig grunted, "Where are there so many true cultivators? Most people just want magical power so they can show off in front of others. How many of them are truly seeking the Dao and cultivating themselves?"
"Becoming an immortal, becoming an immortal—the world is vast, but who has truly become an immortal? It's better to enjoy life to the fullest!"
Qi Fei and the other two looked at each other and then they began to understand the atmosphere in the South China Sea.
I thought there were countless experts overseas, but it seems like all three of them could fry fish.
The little pig's shiny black eyes darted around, lingering on each of the three faces for a moment before it spoke, its tone fawning:
"Gentlemen, just two more blocks ahead is the Three Seas Society. Hand me over to them, and they will reward you handsomely."
Qi Fei glanced down at it, his gaze lingering on its pinkish-white pig face.
"Are you familiar with this place?"
The little pig smiled awkwardly.
"After all, it's my own home," it said, "of course I'm familiar with it."
Is it really the Sanhai Association?
The three of them still had doubts.
However, if it belongs to the Sanhai Association, handing it over to them is perfectly acceptable. When traveling, it's always better to make good connections than bad ones.
After all, there's no benefit in killing a strange pig.
The three followed the pig's lead, or rather, the pig acted like a dog being led by a dog.
Soon, they crossed two street corners and arrived at the shop where the Sanhai Club was located.
The Sanhai Club's storefront was quite large, occupying an entire corner of the street.
Under the eaves of the magnificent facade hangs a black plaque with gold lettering, the three characters "Sanhaihui" written in a vigorous and elegant style.
The two vermilion doors were wide open, with sea and cliff patterns carved on the lintel, the waves surging and fish and dragons appearing and disappearing, seemingly some kind of protective formation.
The shop was spacious inside, but mostly consisted of elegant tea rooms. This was because the Sanhai Guild carried all sorts of goods, from pearls to religious artifacts.
Most buyers either discuss the goods before looking at them, or look at them before discussing the goods.
There were only three or five employees in the shop, each busy with their own tasks.
The little pig entered the gate of the Sanhai Association, kicked off with its hind legs, broke free from Qi Fei's grasp, and its four hooves made a crisp "clattering" sound on the blue brick ground.
The waiter at the door glanced down at it, then paused, stunned.
After all, it's quite rare to see a pig running around in Dafang.
The little pig raised its head and said something to the servant.
"Go and call the shopkeeper out. Tell him—"
It suddenly made a few "humming" sounds, and the waiters stopped what they were doing, looking at each other in confusion, not knowing what it meant. They had no choice but to call out the manager from the back.
Not long after, someone rushed over from behind.
The man appeared to be in his forties, wearing a dark blue robe with a plain silk sash around his waist and black cloth shoes. He was clean and tidy from head to toe, without any extra ornaments.
He carried a faint magical power, moving like a gust of wind, but when he reached the little pig, he suddenly stopped.
He looked down at the pink and white pig on the ground, then looked up at Qi Fei and the other two, then looked down at the pig again, and his brain seemed to suddenly shut down.
His expression shifted from confusion to shock, then to bewilderment, finally settling on a dazed look of "Am I dreaming?"
