Chapter 14 Set a Small Goal
In order to catch Cassius off guard, Anton immediately launched a deadly attack.
As he had expected, the results were surprisingly good.
Having landed a successful blow, Anton didn't stop. He moved like the wind and appeared in front of Cassius, slashing out with his black steel sword.
Cassius's longsword had already been knocked out of his hand during the impact, and now he could only endure the excruciating pain and use his bare hands to catch the incoming blade.
His half-undead nature granted him a resilient physique, allowing him to easily withstand even steel weapons. However, the moment his hand touched Anton's blade, smoke began to rise from it, and his skin and flesh were charred and torn apart.
With a slight exertion, Anton's sword sliced through the hand like a hot knife through butter, then plunged into the neck without any resistance.
laugh!
Its head flew high into the air, its distorted face frozen in despair, terror, and resentment, before finally crashing heavily onto the rocks seven or eight meters away.
The headless corpse swayed a few times before collapsing to the ground with a thud.
The wilderness quickly returned to silence.
Harvey and the other three stared blankly at the corpse on the ground, unable to come to their senses for a long time.
That terrifying enemy, whom even their entire team couldn't defeat, was dealt with so easily and decisively?
Anton paid no attention to the changes in the expressions of the others and went straight forward to search the body.
To his disappointment, Cassius had nothing of value on him except for some loose coins.
"Too bad he's a poor wretch."
Anton sighed.
In a game, these elite monsters would at least drop a skill book, but in reality, they were so stingy that they only dropped a little money.
Shaking his head, Anton picked up the longsword that Cassius had dropped, used the tip of the sword to cut the hemp rope of the gray stone necklace, threw it to the ground, and then pointed the tip of the sword precisely at the gray stone.
Click.
The rubble shattered, and a wisp of grayish-white mist escaped from it, emitting a faint whistling sound before dissipating in the night wind.
This gray stone necklace is a token of membership among lower-level members of the Ring of Annihilation.
The carrier can sense the presence of other tokens within a certain distance, and when combined with specific code words, it serves as a means for members of the organization to identify each other.
It's a pity the code changes every month, otherwise, with this gray stone, Anton wouldn't mind playing the role of someone from the Ring of Annihilation for a while; it might come in handy on certain occasions.
Anton then threw the body, along with the longsword, far away into a pile of rocks to avoid attracting the Scaled Rock Lizard with its bloody smell.
After finishing his business, he dusted off his hands, returned to the campfire, sat down, and looked at Harvey and the others who were still standing there.
"Don't stand, sit down."
Harvey and the other three exchanged glances and silently sat back down.
The campfire crackled, casting long and short shadows of everyone, as if the life-or-death struggle just moments before had been an illusion.
"Thank you." Harvey broke the silence, looking solemnly at Anton. "We owe you our lives. If..."
Anton raised his hand to interrupt him and smiled, "If you really want to thank me, then tell me more about the Eldron Plains."
Harvey paused for a moment, then nodded readily in agreement.
Having traveled extensively for over twenty years, he knew this land, which was under the control of the dragon clan, inside and out. He was familiar with the customs, traditions, and geography of many places, and after careful consideration, he began to recount his story.
Anton listened attentively, occasionally interjecting with a few questions, and silently noting down the key information.
It wasn't until late into the night, when the campfire had died down, that Anton finally ended the chat with satisfaction. He then sat cross-legged in meditation to recover his depleted spiritual energy.
Harvey and the others dared not disturb them. After assigning their watch order, they leaned against the rocks and slept fully clothed.
The next morning, after a simple meal of dry rations, Anton politely declined Harvey's invitation to go to Bluewater Harbor and turned to leave without hesitation.
We are going to Bishui Port, but not now.
He had no intention of developing a close relationship with Harvey and his group.
Human lifespan is too short; the friendships formed today may one day amount to nothing more than a desolate grave when we look back on them.
It's just adding to my worries for no reason.
Even if he were to one day master the means to grant others immortality, he would only care for those close to him.
However, before leaving, Anton gave Harvey a reminder.
Once the Ring of Annihilation discovers Cassius's disappearance, it will likely target the last adventure party that made contact with him.
Those guys are ruthless and capable of anything; they'd better be careful.
......
In the days that followed, Anton hunted Scaled Rock Lizards during the day and practiced the Returning to the Void Devouring the Sea Technique at night, leading a fulfilling and busy life.
Five days later, after estimating that the lizard meat stored in his storage talisman was enough for him to cultivate for two or three months, he finally set off to return to the Silvermoon Forest.
The first thing he did upon returning to the settlement was to go to the treehouse where Roman lived and knock on the door.
No one answered.
Anton raised an eyebrow and went around to the yard behind the treehouse. Sure enough, he saw Roman forging, his battle axe flying, his movements powerful and swift. Sweat dripped down his fair neck, reflecting tiny golden glints in the morning light.
Noticing the commotion, Roman turned around and, upon recognizing Anton, immediately stopped. He said irritably, "You're finally back! Professor Darian has been looking for you twice already. If you hadn't come back, I wouldn't know what excuse I would have made to cover for you."
"Thank you for your hard work." Anton smiled and tossed a leather pouch over. "This is a gift for you."
Roman took it and felt it was a bit heavy. Curious, he asked, "What is this?"
"The flesh of the Scaled Rock Lizard."
Gurgle.
Roman's throat bobbed slightly.
Unlike other elves, she showed little interest in things like nectar and fruit, but had a particular fondness for meat.
As a dragon-like creature, the Scaled Rock Lizard has extremely firm and chewy meat, making it exceptionally delicious whether grilled or stewed.
The forest guards would occasionally kill one or two scaled rock lizards that accidentally wandered into the forest, and use the lizard meat to supplement the soldiers' meals at the training ground.
Roman had once eaten at a restaurant without paying for it, and ever since then he'd been craving the taste of the Scaled Lizard meat.
"Anton, you're amazing!"
Roman beamed and excitedly rushed over to give Anton a hug, wiping his sweaty body against him.
Anton didn't mind.
Even the sweat of a beautiful girl smells sweet. This phrase was just a pervert's fantasy in my previous life, but among the elves of the Dawn Continent, it is a description that couldn't be more real.
After the hug, Roman rushed back into the house to get tools to start a fire.
Anton took the opportunity to enjoy a free barbecue before returning to his lodgings to sort out the gains from his trip.
Although there were some unexpected events along the way, the hunting trip went smoothly overall.
From now on, as long as I go out once every two or three months, I can basically meet my cultivation needs.
Moreover, with ample blood from the Scaled Rock Lizard, there's no need to be so stingy and meticulous when drawing talismans anymore; many talismans can be practiced on their own.
Martial arts skills are also essential.
You should continue to practice the martial arts skills you have already mastered to improve your proficiency.
New martial arts techniques must also be continuously practiced.
The Dawn Continent is home to countless extraordinary creatures with all sorts of bizarre abilities. Mastering a few different martial arts techniques might come in handy someday.
For example, the Cold Abyss Sword is used by the Scaled Rock Lizard, and the Divine Sun Sword Technique is used by the Half-Undead.
Since I can't learn magic for the time being, I can use the extra time to practice martial arts.
"Set a small goal: to break through to the mid-stage of Qi Refining by the time I'm 60."
After finalizing his plans, Anton quickly washed up and went to bed to meditate.
