Elven cultivators
Chapter 186 Turmoil Erupts
The year was 9361 in the Dawn Calendar.
This year was repeatedly mentioned in later historical records and was eventually etched in history as the "Year of the Divide of an Era".
This year also marked the beginning of the decline of the dragon race's rule.
Before this, there was a long era in which the dragon race reigned supreme as the golden descendants of the dragons.
Wherever the dragon banners went, all races submitted; for nearly ten thousand years, no force could shake their authority.
What followed was a chaotic era in which all order collapsed, old authority was crushed, and new forces burned like wildfire across the continent.
Countless races that had once groveled under the dragon's might have raised the banner of resistance.
But it all started in a forest in the eastern corner of the continent, and an elf who was previously unknown.
Two months after Anton murdered the Radiant Dragon Isaac, turmoil finally broke out.
August of the year 9361 in the Dawn Calendar.
Bloodhowl Fortress, Tide Temple, Free Alliance, Heart of the Mountains, and Emerald Court—the top powers of the five major races—seemed to have agreed to launch surprise attacks on their respective Dragon Cities on the same day.
In less than half a day, the five major dragon cities were destroyed one after another.
The five legendary dragons guarding Dragon City also perished in the war.
This news struck like a thunderbolt, igniting chaos throughout the entire Dawn Continent.
If anyone had any doubts about the dragon race losing the protection of the dragon god, then the fact that five dragon cities were captured on the same day by the top forces of the five major races with overwhelming force completely shattered any remaining hope or doubt.
The dragon race has lost the protection of the dragon god.
This fact was completely exposed to the entire continent.
Those once invincible, high and mighty dragons are no longer invincible.
After that, the situation on the Dawn Continent was like a lake tossed with a boulder, creating ripples upon ripples.
September of the year 9361 in the Dawn Calendar, Leiming River Basin.
The orc tribe "Steelmane," in alliance with various local forces, launched an attack on Dragon City.
After nearly two months of fierce fighting, "Steelmane" successfully captured Dragon City and killed the dragon.
November, 9361 AD (Dawn Calendar), Frost Ridge Plateau.
The city of Naxilong, located in the eastern part of the plateau, was attacked and breached by the dwarven force "Ironforge" and the local human city-state "Frostwhisper City". The guardian dragon was also besieged and killed.
January, 9362 of the Dawn Calendar, Green Heights.
Dragon City was captured by the local coalition forces, and the guardian dragon was killed by several legendary powerhouses while fleeing.
February, 9362 of the Dawn Calendar, Azure Coast.
The sea creatures landed on the coastal waters and, together with the human alliance, attacked from both sides, capturing Dragon City in less than a month.
……
In just six months, more than twenty dragon cities were captured, and the guardian dragons either died or fled.
The dragons suffered heavy losses.
Behind these wars, the shadow of the Meteor Dragon Society can be seen to varying degrees.
This organization, whose mission is to kill dragons, is now operating at full capacity.
Its intelligence network relayed the weak points in the defenses of each Dragon City to the Allied forces.
Its liaisons traveled back and forth across the mainland, bringing together forces that were originally strangers to each other to the same negotiating table.
It was through its tireless mediation that forces from various regions gradually united to launch a counterattack against Dragon City.
Without the Meteor Dragon Society, these independent forces might have been able to conquer one or two Dragon Cities, but it would have been impossible for them to form such a large-scale alliance in just six months.
Autumn of the year 9362 in the Dawn Calendar.
Faced with wave after wave of attacks and resistance, the Dragon Court had to make a difficult decision.
Recall all the guardian dragons.
Recall all Dragonborn Legion units deployed overseas.
Contract the defenses and hold the Dragon Court.
This was a decision that shook the entire Dawn Continent.
For nearly ten thousand years, the dragon's banner has never been lowered from any dragon city.
Hundreds of Dragon Cities scattered throughout the land were once symbols of the Dragon Clan's rule and proof of the submission of all races.
Now, they have either been conquered or abandoned, collapsing piece by piece like sandcastles being washed away by the tide.
Everyone knew that the dragon race had begun to decline.
This has ignited the ambitions of many more races and factions.
Beneath the surface, a massive siege against the dragons is gradually taking shape.
……
Just when the outside world was in turmoil and unrest was frequent.
Eldron Plains, however, was peaceful.
In the spring of the year 9363 in the Dawn Calendar, a major event brought this long-silent plain back to life.
The Silvermoon Clan is about to hold a ceremony to mark the inauguration of its clan leader.
The new clan leader is none other than Anton Silvermoon, who killed the Shining Dragon and was known as the "Fallen Dragon Sword Saint" by the outside world.
The news caused an uproar throughout the Eldron Plains.
At this moment, all major powers, races, merchant guilds, and even some well-known mercenary groups acted simultaneously.
Everyone exerted all their strength to try and secure a spot to attend the ceremony.
Some people want to take this opportunity to establish contact with the Silvermoon Clan.
Some people simply wanted to see the legendary Meteor Dragon Sword Saint with their own eyes.
Many others, however, wanted to take this opportunity to express their sincerity and goodwill to the new overlord of Eldron Plains.
After all, the Silvermoon Clan has become an indispensable presence on this plain.
Befriending them will bring you nothing but benefits.
Before we knew it, the day of the ceremony arrived.
Before the sun had fully risen, the edge of the forest was already bustling with activity.
The azure light barrier that once blocked the Dragon City army has now been specially opened into a wide passage.
On both sides of the passage, elven guards dressed in brand-new rune-patterned leather armor stood ramrod straight, the scabbards of their longswords gleaming coldly in the morning light.
The captain of the guards stood at the front, holding a long list in his hand. Each time a guest arrived, he would mark a line on the list before the guards behind him would guide them inside.
Guests arrived in an endless stream, each offering congratulatory gifts.
There were merchants riding tall camels and dressed in fine clothes.
There were orc chieftains draped in animal skins and carrying battle axes.
There are human spellcasters dressed in long robes and holding staffs.
There were even a few sea creatures that were soaking wet and whose gill slits were faintly visible on both sides of their necks.
They came from Changhu Town, still carrying the salty smell of the sea.
A diverse mix of people and ethnicities.
If this were a few years ago, who would have imagined that such a group of forces belonging to different races, who once fought separately under the oppression of Dragon City, would gather so neatly in the same forest?
Silvermoon Forest hasn't been this lively in a long time.
The last time was during Anton's coming-of-age ceremony.
Now, however, things are completely different.
The ceremony was held in a wide open space in the northern part of the forest.
This place has been carefully decorated.
The center of the open space was covered with a fine layer of tender green moss, which was soft and springy to the touch.
Above the open space, a dome woven from vines hangs down from the surrounding tree trunks, forming a natural sunshade.
The vines were adorned with blooming honey bell flowers, their pale yellow blossoms swaying gently in the morning breeze and releasing a sweet fragrance.
Dozens of long tables were set up around the venue, covered with snow-white tablecloths, and filled with all kinds of food and drinks.
At this moment, hundreds of guests have gathered in the venue.
They stood or sat, gathering in twos and threes, talking in hushed tones.
Apart from Anton and the Grand Elder, all the high-ranking members of the Silvermoon Clan were present and exchanging pleasantries with the various guests.
The area around the Second Elder and the Third Elder was particularly lively, almost completely surrounded by guests.
After all, the two elders were the highest-ranking people present, and guests who wanted to make friends with the Silvermoon Clan naturally set their sights on them.
Beside the two elders, an elven girl with long emerald green hair stood quietly.
She wore a light blue ankle-length robe embroidered with silver star patterns, and a white ribbon tied around her waist, which perfectly accentuated her slender figure.
Her face was calm, with a polite smile on her lips. She nodded to the guests from time to time, and her every move exuded a composure and calmness that was beyond her years.
"Is that Eleanor Silvermoon, the chieftain's assistant?"
Not far away, a human merchant lowered his voice and asked his companion beside him.
"That's right." His companion nodded, his gaze lingering on Eleanor for a moment. "I heard she's only a little over 160 years old, which is only a short time for an elven to come of age, yet she's already a Gold-rank spellcaster and holds a very high position in the clan."
"Wouldn't that greatly increase the chances of awakening the power of laws in the future?" The merchant clicked his tongue in amazement. "The Silver Moon Clan is indeed full of talented people. No wonder they have risen to prominence so quickly."
"That's not all." His companion leaned closer, lowering his voice even further. "Look at her appearance; she's outstanding even among the elves. Moreover, she's about the same age as the chieftain, and they work together day and night..."
He didn't finish his sentence, but the meaning was already quite clear.
The merchant smiled knowingly: "In that case, wouldn't it be very possible that she'll become the future clan chief's wife?"
"Who knows?" His companion shrugged. "But I heard that the chieftain has a childhood sweetheart. They grew up together and are very close."
"Oh?" The merchant's interest was piqued. "And who is that?"
"Look," his companion gestured towards the corner of the field, "that's him."
The businessman followed his gaze and his eyes froze.
At a long table in the corner of the venue, a silver-haired elven girl sat casually, holding a golden-brown, crispy roasted animal leg in her hand, gnawing on it with gusto.
She was dressed in a close-fitting black hunting outfit, with a battle axe almost as tall as herself slung on her back. Her eyes were fixed on the food in her hands, oblivious to the commotion around her.
Their eating manners had absolutely nothing to do with elegance.
She felt out of place, yet strangely at ease, among the guests around her who were raising their glasses and chatting quietly.
The merchant and his companion looked at each other, speechless for a moment.
After a long silence, the merchant finally managed to squeeze out a sentence: "This one... certainly has a genuine personality."
His companion coughed lightly, not daring to reply.
It was approaching noon.
More and more guests arrived at the venue, and the long tables were almost full.
The sounds of conversation, laughter, and clinking glasses blended together, and the air was filled with the aroma of food and drinks, creating a lively atmosphere like a grand celebration.
Just then, a voice suddenly rang out.
"Chief Andong has arrived."
The crowd quickly quieted down.
All eyes turned to the entrance of the venue.
Two figures were walking side by side from the end of the tree-lined walkway.
Leading the way was none other than today's protagonist.
Anton Silver Moon.
He wore a moon-white robe, its surface smooth as water, spotless, the hem swaying gently with his steps, like flowing clouds.
His eyes were calm as a deep pool, so deep they seemed to draw one's soul into them.
His gaze swept across the crowd, neither sharp nor ostentatious, yet it made everyone he looked at unconsciously hold their breath.
The Grand Elder followed beside him, half a step behind, a faint smile of satisfaction on his weathered face.
"That's the Meteor Dragon Sword Saint?"
"So young..."
"Elves, they all look young... but I heard he's only a little over 140 years old."
Whispers rose and fell like the buzzing of bees among the crowd.
Some were amazed by his youth, some speculated about his abilities, and some silently compared his actual abilities with those of the rumors.
Regardless of their inner thoughts, everyone's gaze was firmly drawn to that tall, slender figure, unable to look away.
Anton seemed not to hear the discussions and calmly stepped onto the platform.
The Grand Elder followed closely behind and stood beside him.
Below the platform, the elves of the Silvermoon Clan fell silent, their gazes fixed intently on the tall, slender figure on the stage.
The guests gradually stopped talking, and the entire place fell silent.
The Grand Elder stepped forward half a step and slowly spoke.
"Thank you all for coming from afar to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new chieftain of the Silvermoon Clan."
"Over the past century, the clan has experienced its most difficult years and traversed its most arduous path. But we have finally made it to where we are today, and the clan has finally welcomed a new successor."
"Now I'll introduce it to you."
The elder turned around and faced Andong.
"This is the new patriarch of our Silvermoon Clan, Anton Silvermoon."
Anton faced the crowd and spoke solemnly.
"I, Anton Silvermoon, here today assume the position of Chief of the Silvermoon Clan."
"From this day forward, I will lead the clan to an even more glorious future."
The words were brief, without any grand pronouncements or passionate rhetoric.
Yet, such a simple sentence made every Silvermoon Clan elf present straighten their backs.
The guests present also applauded enthusiastically, and the loud applause quickly spread out.
The ceremony was not lengthy.
After a brief speech, Anton stepped down from the platform and began to greet the guests one by one.
The elder stepped aside, giving the stage entirely to the new clan leader.
