Chapter 37: What else is there that he can't do?
After leaving the top of the hill, Anton and his two companions naturally walked together, side by side, along the winding tree-lined walkway.
Morning light filters through the leaves, casting dappled golden carpets on the ground.
Roman carried his battle axe, his steps light and quick, humming an unknown tune, completely immersed in the joy of becoming a Wind Whisperer.
In contrast, Eleanor was much quieter.
She walked beside the two men, glancing at Anton from time to time, hesitant to speak, her emerald green eyes filled with complex emotions.
"Anton, what kind of combat technique was that just now?" Roman gestured and clicked his tongue in amazement. "It was so powerful that even the thick-skinned Ridge Dragon couldn't withstand a single blow."
Eleanor looked on with curiosity upon hearing this.
The astonishing power of that sword strike was still vivid in her mind, leaving a deep impression on her.
The Silvermoon Clan has preserved many image crystals that depict the process of casting magical combat techniques. Eleanor had watched them out of curiosity, but those magical combat techniques did not seem to her as powerful and domineering as those cast by Anton.
"That's called the Divine Sun Sword Technique," Anton replied casually.
Eleanor was slightly taken aback.
Divine Sun Sword Technique?
What a strange name.
Roman was used to it, after all, the two combat techniques that Anton had taught her before had very special names.
She assumed that Anton had a unique aesthetic sense, which was why he gave the combat skills such peculiar names.
"Could you modify this Divine Sun Sword Technique to make it a combat skill that can be performed even with an axe?"
Roman leaned closer, a fawning smile on his face.
Anton glanced at her, a half-smile on his face, and said, "It depends on my mood."
"Please, please." Roman leaned behind him, stood on tiptoe, and massaged his shoulders with extra effort. "Please take this opportunity to work hard, I'll grill some meat for you another day."
After enjoying the girl's massage for a while, Anton slowly nodded: "Just so you know, the power might be a little weaker."
He doesn't yet have the ability to modify the Divine Sun Sword Technique into an axe technique, but finding a fire-attribute axe technique with a similar appearance is easy.
Of course, top-tier martial arts techniques are out of the question; one can only choose a slightly less advanced one and modify it into a combat technique that can be activated by magic.
"It's alright." Roman beamed with joy.
In her view, any combat technique that Anton used was of high quality.
Anton thought for a moment and then said, "Find an opportunity to hand over the Wind and Thunder Guidance and the Scale Locking Technique to the Elders Council."
He had actually thought about this for a long time: to gradually improve more martial arts techniques and teach them to the talented warriors in the clan, so as to strengthen the clan's power.
The stronger the clan, the more resources it can provide and collect, and the more stable his path to immortality will be.
Win-win!
Roman naturally had no objection and immediately nodded in agreement.
Eleanor, who was standing nearby, finally reacted and asked in astonishment, "Anton, those two combat techniques Roman just used, did you create them?"
When she was watching Roman's fight, she felt that the two combat techniques he used were unfamiliar and she had never seen them before.
She assumed it was a new combat technique developed by one of the clan's combat instructors, never expecting it to be Anton's work.
Before Anton could speak, Roman interjected, "That's right, it was Anton who created it, isn't that amazing?"
Eleanor's gaze suddenly became even more complicated.
They're even developing new combat techniques...
Is there anything he can't do?
Eleanor subconsciously took stock of what she was good at.
He has good talent for cultivation, but not as much as Anton.
Pharmacological talent? There's no comparison.
Creating combat techniques? She had never even considered it.
Alchemy...
Oh, right, alchemy!
Eleanor's heart skipped a beat.
Not long ago, I heard Professor Darian mention that Anton was planning to study alchemy and had borrowed a lot of introductory books from him.
Anton's talent in pharmacology is indeed amazing, but alchemy and pharmacology are two completely different fields.
Surely he can't be exceptionally talented in this area too?
That would be far too outrageous.
Although she had given up competing with Anton, Eleanor still felt a subtle sense of balance.
At least in this matter, she was ahead of Anton.
At the fork in the road, Anton parted ways with the two women and headed straight towards the Tree of Eternity.
The other two will have to wait until tomorrow when accommodations are arranged before they can enter the area of the Eternal Tree.
Eleanor stared blankly in the direction Anton had left, when suddenly a slender, fair hand reached out and waved in front of her.
"Stop looking, they've all gone far away."
Eleanor turned her head and saw Roman smiling at her.
The smile held a hint of mischief, but no malice.
"You should give up too."
Eleanor paused, then asked, "Give up what?"
"You've always considered Anton a rival, haven't you?"
Roman took the battle axe off his shoulder, propped it on the ground, and said casually, as if he were just saying that the weather was nice today.
Eleanor was genuinely surprised this time, her eyes widening slightly: "How did you know?"
She believed she had kept her feelings well hidden and had never mentioned them to anyone except Lyra.
How did Roman know that?
"I'm just guessing." Roman grinned. "Whenever Anton is around, your gaze always lingers on him for a long time, and the way you look at him is different from how you look at others, like you're competing with him."
"Also, every time you hear about Anton's achievements, your expression becomes somewhat resentful."
Eleanor was speechless for a moment.
She never expected that Roman, who usually seemed carefree and thoughtless, would have such keen and meticulous observation skills.
Those emotions she thought she had hidden well had actually been seen through by others all along.
"You're very observant," Eleanor couldn't help but say.
"Of course," Roman said matter-of-factly. "Anton is the most important person to me. I can tell at a glance if anyone has designs on him."
Eleanor was silent. How could this guy say such embarrassing things so frankly?
"You're right. I did always consider Anton a rival and wanted to surpass him."
Ellie pursed her lips and gave a self-deprecating bitter smile.
"But after today, I've given up."
"The gap between me and Anton is too big; I could never catch up to him in this lifetime."
Roman carefully examined Eleanor's expression for a few moments, nodded to confirm that she was telling the truth, and then patted her shoulder to comfort her, "Don't be too discouraged. Anton is a monster; it's normal for normal people to be no match for him."
She looked at Eleanor, her tone becoming more serious, "You have great talent. Just focus on improving yourself, and one day you will become very strong too."
Eleanor paused for a moment, then gave a faint smile.
"Thank you, Roman."
"Don't mention it." Roman casually put his arm around Eleanor's shoulder. "We'll be going on a hunting trip together from now on, so we'll be partners and need to look after each other."
"Okay, please take good care of me," Eleanor replied with a smile.
She suddenly realized that this seemingly carefree girl was actually more insightful than many others.
