Chapter 422 It's Time to Change Places
In the northern part of the continent, there is the city of Kang.
In the bedroom of the city lord's mansion.
Carey woke up with a start.
He sat up abruptly, threw off the thin blanket, stepped barefoot onto the cool stone floor, and looked out the window.
The distant horizon was faintly tinged with a dark red by the firelight, as if something was burning.
He threw back the covers, sat up, and angrily shouted, "Someone come here!"
"Guards!" Kerry shouted in a deep voice.
The guards standing outside the door immediately pushed the door open and knelt down on one knee at the entrance.
"Lord City Lord!"
"What's going on outside? Why is it so noisy?"
Before the guard could answer, Kerry seemed to realize something, and his expression suddenly changed.
"Could it be the undead attacking?" The guard was startled, but quickly shook his head and said, "Don't worry, Lord City Lord, we have sent scouts to patrol within a ten-mile radius at all times. If an undead army were to approach, it would be impossible to hide it from us."
Kerry thought about it and realized it made sense, and his expression relaxed.
But he quickly frowned again.
"Let's go see what's going on?"
"Yes, Lord City Lord." The guard immediately accepted the order and left.
Kerry couldn't sleep either, so he took his outer robe off the hanger and put it on. After thinking for a moment, he picked up the longsword on the table and walked outside.
Once outside the inner courtyard gate, Kerry discovered that the commotion outside was far more intense than he had anticipated, with shouts of killing and screams faintly mixed in.
His heart sank, and he finally realized something was wrong.
Just then, a series of hurried and disorderly footsteps came from the side corridor, followed by a figure stumbling into the courtyard, almost falling to the ground.
Carey instinctively drew his sword, but quickly realized that the person who came was his son Leonard.
"Leonard? Wasn't it your turn to be on duty tonight? Why did you come back?"
Leonard's armor was covered in dust and blood, his face contorted with fear. His lips trembled, and his voice quivered as he said, "Father, it's Morales! He's back!"
Carey's pupils constricted sharply: "Morales?"
Leonard nodded vigorously, speaking rapidly and urgently: "It's him! He's back for revenge, and the guards couldn't stop him at all!"
"How many men did he bring?" Carey immediately asked.
"Just him!"
Kerry paused for a moment, then frowned and said sharply, "What nonsense are you talking about? There are 80,000 troops stationed in the city. How could he possibly break in alone?"
Leonard was so anxious he was almost crying: "It's true, Father, Morales... he's become incredibly strong somehow. Uncle Vic led his guards to deal with him, but he killed them in a single move!"
Kerry had an expression of disbelief on his face.
Vic is the second strongest warrior in Kanger City after him, a warrior at the peak of the Gold rank.
How could such a powerful figure be instantly killed by Morais?
Unless Morais has already reached the legendary rank.
But that's even more impossible! Two years ago, when Morais escaped from Kanger City, he was only in the upper Silver tier.
How could someone's strength improve so quickly in just two years?
Even the Meteor Dragon Sword Saint in the eastern part of the continent couldn't have done that!
Kerry was filled with doubt and uncertainty.
"Father, Father..."
Leonard's trembling voice startled Carey awake.
The latter then suddenly realized that the noisy shouts and screams outside had disappeared at some point.
The deathly silence around us was even more chilling than the previous clamor.
A series of footsteps sounded from outside the archway, unhurried and steady, the soles of boots striking the ground with a clear, resonant rhythm in the open courtyard.
A tall, thin young man emerged from the shadows of the archway.
The moonlight fell on him, illuminating his young face in a half-light, half-shadow.
Compared to two years ago, Morales' appearance hasn't changed much, except that he now exudes a more melancholic air. His eyes are the most striking feature.
Those eyes were deep and unfathomable, like a bottomless pool of water; just one glance from them gave one the illusion that their soul was about to be sucked in.
The moment their eyes met, Kerry felt dizzy.
Although it returned to normal in an instant, it was enough to terrify him.
What exactly happened to Morales?
"Long time no see, Lord Kaili."
Morales stood in the center of the courtyard, his deep gaze falling on Carey, a strange smile playing on his lips.
"You never thought we'd meet again two years later, did you?"
Carey's face was grim, his gaze fixed on Morales, and he said in a deep voice, "Morales, what exactly do you want? Where are the people outside?"
"What do I want to do?"
Morales gave a wry smile.
"You should know perfectly well what's going on in your heart." (This last part appears to be a fragment and doesn't translate directly. It's likely part of a larger text.)
"What a pity, fate is so strange, it just so happened that I was given the power to take revenge."
Seeing Morales talking to himself, Carey grew increasingly uneasy and asked again, "What exactly did you do to my soldiers and people?"
Morales smiled slightly: "They... have all become the nourishment that ignites my divine fire."
A chill ran down Kaili's spine.
If you were to question Morales's words, how could a city with over a million people have been wiped out in such a short time?
But his intuition told him that Morales wasn't lying.
Furthermore, what exactly is divine fire?
Does that sound like it's related to gods?
But how did Morales get involved with this stuff?
Countless doubts lingered in Carey's mind, making him increasingly uneasy and uncertain. But before he could figure it out, Morales spoke again: "Alright, enough of the reminiscing, it's time to send you on your way."
Kerry's expression changed, and he immediately drew his weapon.
Before he could make a move, Leonard, unable to contain his fear, roared and unleashed his full magical power, transforming into a sharp white light that pierced towards Morales.
The sword tip was wrapped in a bone-chilling cold, and its speed was so fast that it even produced a sharp whistling sound as it cut through the air.
Morales remained calm, showing no intention of dodging.
He merely glanced at Leonard, turning his gaze slightly to the side.
In that instant, Leonard's body stiffened abruptly.
His pupils suddenly dilated, and the angry expression on his face froze on his face as if it had been removed. Then, as if his bones had been removed, he collapsed softly to the ground.
The longsword slipped from his hand and rolled to the ground with a sharp clang, which was particularly jarring in the quiet courtyard.
Kerry's expression changed completely.
He clearly felt Leonard's presence vanish the moment he fell to the ground.
What kind of bizarre method is this? Morales withdrew his gaze as if he had done something insignificant, and turned his attention back to Carey.
"now you."
Carey gritted his teeth, about to launch a counterattack, but when his gaze met Morales's deep eyes, his head began to spin again, much more violently than before, as if someone was violently stirring his head with a wooden stick.
He tried desperately to calm himself, but he was already a beat too late.
A ball of gray light surged from Morales's palm, silently sweeping across the courtyard and striking his chest.
Kerry felt as if his soul was being gripped tightly by something and suddenly yanked.
Intense pain exploded from within my body in an instant.
Consciousness, like torn pieces of paper, quickly disintegrated.
His body stiffened for a moment, then he fell backward, crashing to the ground with a thud, raising a cloud of dust, and remained motionless and silent.
A legendary expert, before he could even make a move, fell to the ground and died.
The courtyard returned to silence.
Morales stood there, looking down at the two corpses on the ground, his face expressionless. For the past two years, he had been thinking about revenge every single moment.
He wanted to kill Kerry with his own hands and use the enemy's blood to pay tribute to his parents' dead souls.
But when it actually happened, he found that he didn't feel the excitement and relief he had expected.
My mood was as calm as a stagnant pool.
Morales frowned, sensing that something was amiss.
But feeling the surging, boundless power within him, he shook his head and stopped worrying about it.
In any case, I have indeed become much stronger.
Strength cannot be faked.
Pulling his thoughts back, Morales closed his eyes, his mental perception spreading outwards, silently carried by the night breeze in all directions.
A moment later, he reopened his eyes, his brows furrowing slightly.
The city of Kanger is now empty.
He had devoured the souls of millions of people in the entire city. Yet, even so, he was still not satisfied.
"Not enough... To ignite the divine fire, we need more souls."
Just then, Morales' expression suddenly changed, and he soared into the sky, hovering motionless above the city lord's mansion, staring intently to the north.
In that distant place shrouded in night, he could sense countless cold and lifeless souls slowly moving toward him.
It is an army of the dead.
Morales understood.
Even if Kanger City doesn't fall tonight, it will be overrun by the undead army.
"It seems the north is no longer safe."
Morales murmured softly.
Most of the towns in the north have been overrun by the undead and turned into ruins where no living being has survived.
The remaining prey are being devoured one by one, and there are fewer and fewer prey for him to consume.
Staying here risks attracting the attention of the undead. It's time to move on.
"Where should we go?"
A thoughtful look flashed across Morales's face, and he quickly made up his mind.
The western part of the continent has the Free Alliance, the central part has the Emerald Court, the eastern part has the Silver Moon Clan, and only the south lacks a top-tier power at the level of the five major powers.
With his current strength, as long as he is careful, he doesn't need to worry about encountering danger in the southern part of the continent.
That was undoubtedly an excellent hunting ground.
"To get to the south, you have to cross the border."
"I just heard that there's going to be a war on the northern border. Before I go to the south, I'll go there first and maybe I can take the opportunity to devour a bunch of souls."
A slight smile appeared on Morales's lips.
The next moment, his figure blurred, and he transformed into a streak of gray light, soaring into the sky and rushing southward, quickly disappearing into the night sky.
