Elven cultivators
Chapter 51 The Quagmire of War
Anton looked at the embarrassed elf girl in front of him, the corners of his mouth curved slightly, and then he pursed his lips without making a sound.
He turned his head, his gaze passing over Eleanor and landing on the pile of lizard meat roasting over the campfire. He spoke casually, "It smells delicious. We're in for a treat today."
After saying that, he walked straight to the campfire, found a stone stool to sit down, and naturally began to flip the meat skewers on the fire, as if he hadn't seen anything.
Roman followed along casually, plopped down next to Anton, and said with a grin, "This meat is something I specially brought back from the mining area. It's from a Ridgeosaurus, much more flavorful than Rock Lizard meat. You should try it."
As she spoke, she took a skewer of golden-brown, crispy meat from the rack and handed it to Anton.
Anton took it, took a bite, and found the meat firm and chewy, with the oil bursting between his teeth, mixed with the aroma of spices. It was indeed superior to the meat of the Scaled Rock Lizard.
"Not bad," he praised.
There are also higher-level blood-feeding body-refining methods for the Foundation Establishment stage, but the Scaled Rock Lizard meat contains too little energy and is not suitable for cultivation. In the future, it can be replaced with the more energy-rich Rift Spine Dragon meat.
As Eleanor watched Anton and Roman chatting and laughing while eating their barbecue, the flush on her face gradually faded.
She hesitated for a moment, but eventually sat back down on the stone stool and ate in small bites, her movements deliberately becoming much more elegant, a stark contrast to her earlier wolfing down of food.
She only glanced at Anton occasionally, and seeing that he never mentioned his embarrassing moment and his expression remained the same, the awkwardness in her heart slowly dissipated.
The campfire crackled as Anton flipped the meat skewers, casually inquiring about the clan's recent situation.
Roman, of course, spoke freely and chattered on about everything, while Eleanor occasionally chimed in with her own words.
Through their accounts, Anton quickly gained a general understanding of the recent events.
The mining area in the Thousand Rock Hills is still operating well.
The dwarves, who see mining as the meaning of life, work tirelessly, while the clans do their best to ensure logistical support. The two sides cooperate quite well.
The frost-patterned silver ore was continuously mined, smelted into ingots by the dwarves, and then split in two.
Half of them were transported back to Grayrock Fortress by the dwarves.
The other half was carried back to the forest by the elves.
Over the years, the entire Forest Guard has been equipped with rune-inscribed equipment, and there are still many spares piled up in the warehouse.
In a short period of time, the clan's demand for rune equipment decreased significantly, and most of the frost-patterned silver ingots that were brought back were put into the warehouse as strategic reserves.
It is foreseeable that for a long time to come, the Silvermoon Clan will not have to worry about the materials needed to forge weapons.
On the other hand, the war with the Molten Thorn tribe continues unabated, and even shows signs of escalating.
The elves had to capture lizardmen prisoners and intercept the Fireflow Merchant Guild's supply convoys.
The lizardmen, on the other hand, wanted to prevent the elves from setting foot on the wasteland and invade the Silvermoon Forest to plunder their winter food and firewood.
Neither side would back down, and several fierce battles broke out at the boundary between the forest and the wilderness.
Furthermore, as time went on, the number of troops deployed increased, and there was a growing tendency for it to evolve into a full-scale war.
"According to scouts, the Molten Thorn tribe has stationed at least four thousand lizardmen outside Silvermoon Forest."
"In recent battles, even gold-ranked dragon lizardmen have participated."
"The elders have recalled all the guards from the mining area and stationed them at the edge of the forest. As for the guards of the mining area, they have handed over the full authority to Grayrock Fortress. In return, the clan has relinquished a portion of the Frostweave Silver mining quota."
At this point, Eleanor glanced at Anton and whispered:
"I overheard my grandfather and the other two elders discussing this in private... They were considering whether to launch a full-scale attack on the Molten Thorn tribe to wipe them out in one fell swoop, otherwise, if this drags on any longer, other unforeseen events may occur."
Anton's expression shifted slightly, and he understood.
The biggest advantage of the Molten Thorn tribe over the Silvermoon clan lies in their reproductive capacity.
The Silvermoon Clan has killed at least one or two thousand lizardmen over the years, but the total population of the Molten Thorn Tribe has not decreased significantly.
Their reproductive capacity far surpasses that of elves, who are long-lived species. Even if many warriors die in war, they can recover after a few decades.
So even though the Silvermoon Clan currently has the upper hand, it's really hard to say who will win if the war becomes a stalemate.
Even with the Dragon Essence Potion as a trump card, the Silvermoon Clan should try their best to avoid being dragged into a quagmire.
"The three elders' concerns are quite reasonable."
Anton took a skewer of raw meat and slowly rotated it over the campfire.
"In the past, we were not strong enough and could only defend passively, but now it's different."
"The clan's strength has increased significantly in recent years, and it has ample reserves of resources. If we can persuade Grayrock Fortress to cooperate with us, we may have a chance to wipe out the Molten Thorn tribe in one fell swoop."
Although they were all the same age, in Roman and Eleanor's hearts, Anton's importance was not much less than that of the other clan leaders. Hearing him say this, a thoughtful look immediately appeared on their faces.
Just then, Eleanor and Roman both heard a rapid clanging sound from their waists.
The sound was sharp and short, like the startled cry of some kind of bird, and it was particularly jarring in the quiet courtyard.
Eleanor's expression changed slightly, and she immediately untied a palm-sized bronze disc from her waist.
The disc's surface was engraved with fine runes, which were now shimmering with a bright green light, flashing on and off with a chirping sound.
Anton immediately recognized it as the Singing Bird Plate, a magical device used in conjunction with singing birds.
Once a songbird at the edge of the forest spots an intruder, it will emit a call at a specific frequency. The songbird disc will receive the sound and automatically issue an alarm. Based on the intensity and direction of the sound, a corresponding light spot will appear on the disc's surface to inform the guard of the direction and scale of the intrusion.
"The lizardmen have launched another attack." Eleanor stood up with a grave expression.
Without a word, Roman grabbed the Frost-Patterned Axe leaning against the wall and strode out, half a piece of roasted meat still in his mouth. He mumbled, "Anton, you keep eating, we'll be right back."
Eleanor nodded slightly to Anton as a farewell, and then followed him.
Anton put down the meat skewers in his hand, stood up, dusted off his robes, and said calmly, "I'll go with you."
Roman and Eleanor were both taken aback.
Eleanor hesitated: "Anton, you don't need to take this risk."
Anton is the clan's hope for resurgence. If anything unexpected happens to him on the battlefield, it will be too late for them to regret it.
"I am also a member of the clan, and I should contribute to the clan's war effort. I can't just hide in the back forever," Anton said calmly.
Eleanor frowned, wanting to persuade him further, but Anton stopped her by raising his hand.
"Don't worry, I'll explain to the three elders later." He stepped past the two and walked out of the treehouse. "Let's go, if we drag this out any longer, the battle will be over."
A hint of helplessness flashed across Eleanor's face, and she had no choice but to follow.
Roman was quite excited and quickly caught up with Anton, saying with a grin, "Great! Anton, I've been looking forward to fighting alongside you for ages! Let's have a competition later and see who takes down the most enemies!"
Anton's lips curled into a slight smile: "Okay."
He wanted to test just how powerful he had become after reaching the Foundation Establishment stage.
