Chapter 98 An Encounter
Chapter 98 An Encounter
Western section of the Eldron Plains.
Blackstone Outpost.
Broken stones and shattered weapons were scattered all over the ground, and blood flowed like a stream, gradually spreading into a patch.
Anton stood in the open space in the center of the outpost, his gaze sweeping indifferently over the corpses scattered on the ground.
Behind him, a high-blooded dragonborn officer lay face up in the rubble, his chest armor pierced by the sword light, revealing only half of his heart.
Such a fatal injury would have killed a human long ago.
But the dragonborn's tenacious vitality kept him alive, his turbid vertical pupils fixed on Anton's back, burning with deep-seated hatred and resentment.
Ten years of silence had made these Dragonborn stationed at military outposts almost forget the fear that the name "Azure Waves" brought.
They thought that the fierce god who had once wiped out twenty-one military outposts had long been frightened into hiding in the depths of the wilderness by the Dragon Court's reputation and would never dare to show his face again.
Unexpectedly, the enemy struck again, and with lightning speed. In less than five minutes, Blackstone Outpost, which ranked among the top military outposts in the Dragon Fang Defense Line, was reduced to ruins, and all its soldiers were wiped out.
"Your Excellency the Governor... will not let you get away with this..."
"When they find you... they'll tear you to pieces..."
Anton glanced down at him, a nonchalant smirk on his face.
"Then let them come and find it."
The moment the words fell, the silver-white sword light hanging in front of him suddenly moved, flashing away like a fleeting shadow, piercing through the dragonborn officer's brow.
The tall body stiffened abruptly, the light in its vertical pupils went out completely, and its head slammed heavily against the stone slab with a dull thud, then fell silent.
The sword light receded, circled around Anton's body, and disappeared into his chest like a fish returning to its nest.
He bent down and put the dragonborn officer's body into his dimensional bag, then collected the other dragonborn corpses as well. After making sure nothing was missing, he walked out of the outpost and prepared to leave.
But at that moment, Anton suddenly stopped moving.
He turned his head, his gaze passing over the ruins and looking towards the wilderness southeast of the outpost.
At the edge of their field of vision, a figure was rapidly approaching.
Anton narrowed his eyes, thinking they were pursuers from Dragon City, but he quickly realized he was mistaken.
The newcomers were not enemies, but rather "friendly forces".
A moment later, Scott stopped at the edge of the outpost ruins, his gaze sweeping over the mess, a look of surprise on his face.
But when he saw Anton, his eyes lit up immediately.
"Mr. Canglan, we meet again."
Scott greeted him with a broad smile, his voice filled with undisguised enthusiasm.
Whether it was a misperception or not, Anton felt that there seemed to be a lot of surprise in his tone.
"What are you doing here?" Anton asked, his gaze calmly sweeping over him.
Scott didn't hide anything and said truthfully, "I came here to gather intelligence, but I didn't expect to run into you like this."
Scott was deeply moved when he said this.
Canglan's record of destroying twenty-one military outposts in succession caused a huge uproar throughout the Eldron Plains.
Under these circumstances, after discussion, the organization ultimately decided to invite Canglan to join the Meteor Dragon Society.
Unexpectedly, after that, Cang Lan completely disappeared, as if he had vanished without a trace.
Scott felt it was a great pity.
He came here today to secretly gather intelligence on the Black Stone Outpost in preparation for the organization's next step in its plan to destroy the military outpost, but he unexpectedly ran into Cang Lan.
This is truly an unexpected delight.
Anton nodded noncommittally and turned to leave.
Scott quickly called out to him, "Please wait a moment, Mr. Canglan."
Anton turned around and looked at him with a puzzled expression.
Scott straightened his expression and looked solemnly at Anton: "Mr. Canglan, on behalf of the Meteor Dragon Society, I would like to formally invite you to join us."
Anton raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised, but upon closer inspection, it wasn't unexpected.
All his actions so far have been in line with the principles of the Fallen Dragon Society, so it is only natural that the latter regards him as a like-minded fellow traveler.
In addition, the Meteor Dragon Society has only recently expanded its territory to the Eldron Plains, and is currently short of manpower.
If he were a high-ranking member of the Meteor Dragon Society, he wouldn't let such a talent slip by either.
"What benefits would I get from joining the Meteor Dragon Society?" Anton asked.
Scott had clearly prepared his words beforehand, and without hesitation, he said, "The purpose of our organization is to overthrow the rule of the dragons and hunt down those arrogant dragons and dragonborn. From this point of view, our goals are the same as yours."
Scott carefully observed Anton's expression and, seeing that he did not intend to refute it, felt reassured.
"We have witnessed your strength, sir. It is truly amazing that you were able to destroy multiple military outposts single-handedly. However, the power of an individual is ultimately limited. If you had the support of an organization, you could certainly do more and be more efficient."
"Intelligence, resources, manpower, cover... these things are hard to obtain by going it alone, but the Meteor Dragon Society can provide them."
Anton's eyes flickered slightly.
Admittedly, Scott's words do have some merit.
Over the years, he has acted alone, and although he has been able to get things done relatively smoothly by relying on various talismans and spells, his disadvantage in intelligence has never been negligible.
Although it is possible to occasionally purchase intelligence from the Misty Tavern, the latter is ultimately just a small intelligence force. It can provide some ordinary intelligence, but it is not capable of providing more secretive intelligence.
For example, the precise distribution of military outposts along the Longya defense line, the rotation patterns, and troop deployments.
The Mist Tavern most likely doesn't have this level of intelligence.
Even if they had them, they wouldn't dare sell them.
The map in the Second Elder's hand was most likely information accumulated by the Silver Moon Clan over many years of espionage.
If Anton hadn't discovered this map by chance, the previous hunting operation wouldn't have been able to proceed so smoothly.
The importance of intelligence is beyond doubt.
If an organization could provide detailed intelligence support, many things would be much more convenient in the future.
In addition, there are resources.
The five leaders of the Fallen Dragon Society are all core figures in a top power within their respective races.
Backed by the Five Star Pillars and having operated for many years, the Meteor Dragon Society possesses extremely abundant resources and energy.
What Anton lacks most right now are various rare materials.
If we can get in touch with the Meteor Dragon Society, it will undoubtedly be easier to obtain rare materials in the future.
Although he was quite tempted, Anton did not show it at all. Instead, he pretended to ponder for a moment, then took out a list and handed it to Scott.
"I'm in dire need of some materials right now. If you can provide the materials on the list, or any relevant clues, I'll agree to join the Meteor Dragon Society."
Scott perked up and immediately took the list and began to browse through it carefully.
While their organization cannot guarantee anything else, the Meteor Dragon Society has a greater advantage than many other forces when it comes to resources.
After all, the members of the Meteor Dragon Society come from multiple races, and their influence extends almost throughout the entire Dawn Continent, giving them an incredibly strong control over resources.
However, upon closer inspection, Scott was taken aback.
The list contained the names of hundreds of materials, many of which he did not recognize, and only a few of which he had heard of. Without exception, they were all quite rare and precious items.
The key point is that these items have applications in multiple fields, including pharmacology, alchemy, and enchanting.
Scott couldn't help but look up at Anton.
Cang Lan is clearly a lone wolf who goes his own way. He shouldn't have any other forces supporting him. Why would he need so many materials with different uses?
It's impossible for him to be a pharmacist, alchemist, and enchanter at the same time, right?
"Is there a problem?" Anton raised an eyebrow.
"No." Scott shook his head hastily, suppressing any unnecessary thoughts.
It doesn't matter whether there are other forces behind Anton.
The Meteor Dragon Society does not prohibit its members from joining multiple factions at the same time, after all, there are five leaders who "set an example" for others.
As for the purpose of these materials, Scott wisely refrained from asking further questions and carefully put the list away.
The fact that Canglan was willing to provide the list was itself a sign of trust. If he were to pry into the details, he would appear ungrateful.
"I will hand the list over to the organization and use all available channels to search for it. However, there are quite a few items, so I need some time. I will notify you as soon as I have any news."
Anton nodded, signaling Scott to wait a moment, then went into the outpost. After a while, he came back, now holding a piece of parchment.
"This is a voice transmission reel. It can only transmit voice information in one direction. Once you receive a message, just activate this reel to notify me."
Anton handed the reel to Scott.
However, in reality, it was a sound transmission talisman.
However, the talisman's appearance was too unique, and Anton was worried about exposing his identity, so he used parchment as the material to draw it, disguising it as a magic scroll.
Even an enchanter would only find the runes on it somewhat peculiar and would not question its origin.
Scott was not a spellcaster, nor had he ever studied enchanting. He couldn't understand the runes on the parchment at all, and unknowingly took the parchment and carefully put it away.
Seeing this, Anton nodded slightly, and a silver-white sword light leaped out from his chest, enveloping his entire body.
The next instant, the sword light shot into the sky and disappeared into the deepening twilight.
Scott stood there, watching the streak of light disappear into the distance, before finally turning his gaze away after a long while.
He turned his head, his gaze sweeping over the corpses scattered on the ground, and couldn't help but sigh.
"He dared to go against Longcheng all by himself, and acted like nothing had happened... He's truly skilled and daring."
Fearing that the people from Dragon City would arrive soon, Scott didn't linger and quickly turned to leave.
He needed to rush back to report today's events to his superiors.
Recruiting a top-tier fighter like Canglan into the organization would undoubtedly be a shot in the arm for the newly established Eldron branch.
