Peninsula: Starting with the nation's first love, the white moonlight
Chapter 15 Divine Assistance
Three days later, the planning department continued its daily routine, and everyone was as busy as ever.
Li Luran was filing several overseas copyright confirmation letters. He looked calm, as if he wasn't the one who had almost made Li Zhi'en cry three days ago.
Old Park brought over two cups of coffee, placed one on Li Luran's table, and looked him up and down.
Li Luran stopped what he was doing, looked up, and asked in confusion:
"Senior? Is something the matter?"
Old Park pulled up a chair, plopped down next to him, and lowered his voice: "Hey Lu Ran, you better tell me honestly, you're not some rich kid who's here to experience life, are you?"
"No, that's not true. Senior, think about it carefully. I'm just an international student. What could I possibly have to do with the chaebols on the peninsula?" Li Luran chuckled and took a sip of his coffee.
"That's just unbelievable!"
Old Park yelled, then realized several people were watching him and quickly lowered his voice again: "That day in the recording studio, you said such awful things in front of the director and manager! I thought you'd be fired the next day!"
Old Park paused for a moment, then moved his face closer.
"Do you know what happened after you left that day?"
Li Luran raised an eyebrow slightly, but did not interrupt, listening quietly.
"Ji-eun coughed up blood, and her manager was terrified and rushed her to the hospital."
Old Park swallowed hard, a look of lingering fear on his face: "The test results are in. Vocal cord congestion. Luckily, it was discovered early, and we sought medical attention in time. If it had been discovered any later, the consequences would have been unimaginable!"
"The doctor also spoke up, clearly informing her that she can no longer sing high notes in the near future, and that she must stop working and rest properly."
"The manager was furious," Old Park continued gossiping. "He thought you were a jinx, that you deliberately messed with Ji-eun in the recording studio, causing her to underperform and hurt her voice. He went straight to the president's office and insisted on firing you."
Li Luran leaned back in his chair; this development seemed to be within reason.
It's all about shifting blame. Big stars are never wrong; the temporary workers are always the ones who are wrong.
He was already prepared to be fired; at worst, he would just find another company to kill time.
If they don't want me here, there are plenty of other places that will.
"And then?" Li Luran asked calmly.
"And then? Then the most magical thing happened!"
Old Park's eyes widened. "Jie-eun came to the company herself yesterday afternoon and, right in front of the president, gave the manager a piece of her mind!"
Upon hearing this, Li Luran was visibly taken aback.
"I've heard that, though I can't guarantee the truth of this news, that Ji-eun told the president that it was indeed her own oversight this time. She had been feeling unwell in her throat before, and that this was just her being stubborn and had nothing to do with you."
Old Park patted Li Luran on the shoulder, filled with emotion: "Luran, you've really met a benefactor. Although Zhi'en seems cold and stubborn at times, she's a person who clearly distinguishes between gratitude and resentment. Not only did she not hold a grudge against you, she also took the initiative to protect you."
"Lu Ran, take my advice and find some time to thank Hao Zhi'en."
"Fortunately, nothing serious happened this time. Sigh, if something had really happened to Ji-eun, we would all be finished!"
"Why do you say that, senior?" Li Luran asked, puzzled.
"What are you playing dumb with me for? Doesn't everyone say that LOEN Company is only kept alive by Zhi En alone?"
"While that might be a bit of an exaggeration, our planning department is definitely directly connected to Jie-eun!"
Old Park patted him on the shoulder again: "Young people have tempers, I understand, but some things don't need to be said so directly."
Li Luran nodded, his tone softening: "What you say is true, senior. I understand."
After Lao Pu left, Li Luran sat alone in front of the computer, feeling somewhat conflicted.
He thought that Lee Ji-eun would be like those spoiled celebrities, getting angry and embarrassed because her vanity was exposed, and kicking him out.
But he was wrong. Not only did Lee Ji-eun not take her anger out on him, but she also spoke up for him.
Li Luran lowered his head, feeling inexplicably irritated and even a little guilty.
"Maybe I should go and apologize to her."
Li Luran said to himself, but he hesitated.
It's really too abrupt to just go to a female celebrity's house to apologize like that.
Moreover, given Lee Ji-eun's stubborn personality, she might not even want to see his face.
Disturbed and confused, Li Luran left the company early.
Instead of going straight back to his apartment, he took a walk all the way to the Han River.
The wind on the Han River was very strong, making people's cheeks sting.
Li Luran found a bench to sit down, took out his phone, opened WeChat, and dialed Zhang Kai's voice call.
The call was answered quickly after ringing twice.
"Hey? Young Master Li! What brings you to call me today? Did you finally have a change of heart and manage to get me an autographed photo of IU?" Zhang Kai's voice on the other end of the phone was as excited as ever.
No autographed photos.
Li Luran looked at the shimmering river surface, his tone somewhat helpless.
"Damn it! Why did you call me if you couldn't get anything out of me? You wasted my time!"
"I need to ask you something." Li Luran ignored his complaint, thought for a moment, and then organized his thoughts, "If, I mean if..."
"If you have an argument with a female classmate because of a misunderstanding, and you say something hurtful that offends her."
"Then, to prove you right, that female classmate did something really strenuous. As a result, she got sick, but instead of blaming you, she spoke well of you to the teacher. Now she's on sick leave and resting at home."
"In this situation, should we go to her house to apologize?"
A cold wind blew by, and there was a sudden five-second silence on the other end of the phone.
"Hey? Are you listening?" Li Luran frowned, asking him for advice, but he wouldn't say a word.
Holy crap!!!
"Li Luran! You've finally blossomed, haven't you?"
"What nonsense are you talking about? I said it's a classmate..." Li Luran moved the phone away a little; this guy's voice was really too loud.
"Don't give me that nonsense!"
Zhang Kai slammed his fist on the table in excitement: "We grew up together! When did you ever get so worked up over something as ordinary as a female classmate that you had to call me, a single dog, from across the country for help?"
"Not only are you still hung up on her, you're even feeling guilty! Li Luran, you're finished! You've definitely fallen for her!"
Li Luran's head was throbbing from his noise, so she quickly interrupted him: "Shut up, let's get down to business."
"Isn't that simple?!"
Zhang Kai, exasperated, lectured her, "Although I don't know who your female classmate is, she must have a very good personality; she protected you even after being wronged herself!"
"What are you hesitating for now?! Are you even a man?"
"Listen to me! Buy medicine! Buy porridge! Buy fruit! Go straight to her doorstep!"
"This is when a woman is most vulnerable. As long as you are sincere, admit your mistake, and say a few kind words, I guarantee that not only will the misunderstanding be cleared up, but your relationship will also progress by leaps and bounds!"
"Listen to me, buddy! Stop dawdling! Go now! Don't let her stay home alone and feel miserable!"
"Beep beep beep..."
Before Li Luran could refute anything further, Zhang Kai hung up the phone.
Li Luran held her phone, standing alone in the wind, looking bewildered.
"You've got your eye on her? How could that be!" Li Luran shook his head.
He simply felt that he owed her an apology, nothing more.
But Zhang Kai is right about one thing!
If you're wrong, you're wrong. A grown man who doesn't even have the courage to bow his head and admit his mistake is truly laughable.
Li Luran stood up, all her hesitation vanishing.
He had seen the location of Lee Ji-eun's house when he was organizing the documents.
Yongsan District, Hannamdong, United Nations Village.
Li Luran put away his phone and hailed a taxi.
"Master, to Hannan Cave."
