Douluo Continent: The Legend of the Gods
Chapter 32 Huo Yuhao
"Elder Yi, are you sure that the divine realm's observations cannot detect us now?"
"Yes." Electrox's voice quickly rang out, his tone certain. "My soul fragments have recovered quite a bit. Although I can't defeat those so-called gods head-on, I can still shield myself from divine sense probing."
He paused, then added, "Moreover, that dimensional consciousness has been helping you all along. I sensed it when I arrived; it left something in your spiritual sea, specifically to shield you from external prying eyes. The deductive ability of your second martial soul is also related to that mark."
So you don't need to worry. Even if that God King Tang San looks down himself, he won't be able to see you, let alone what's happening around you.
"What if I get close to that chosen one?"
“They can’t see you either,” Electrox said. “The barrier around you is centered on you, and it covers everyone around you. Even if that chosen one has the mark of the gods on him, his mark can’t see you; your barrier will separate his mark.”
"When the two of you stand together, in the eyes of the gods, you are a blank slate."
Over the course of those six years, he intermittently told Electrox about everything that happened in the original story.
Huo Yuhao's fate, Tang San's scheming, the destruction of the Holy Spirit Cult, and the upheaval in the God Realm that he didn't know what to call it.
Electrolux listened without much expression, only occasionally asking "And then?" When asked about his own later experiences, Yun Qinglin recounted that part of the story.
Electrolux will help Huo Yuhao fuse with the Snow Empress's soul on a bed of ancient ice, triggering an energy explosion.
Electrolux used his last bit of strength to protect Huo Yuhao, and the fragments of his soul completely dissipated.
Electrolux narrowed his eyes slightly after hearing this.
Electrolux never mentioned it again, but Yun Qinglin noticed that his research speed had increased. Sometimes when he woke up in the middle of the night, he could feel a faint power operating in his spiritual sea, as if Electrolux was deducing something.
He didn't say anything, and Yun Qinglin didn't ask.
At this moment, Yun Qinglin was looking at the two people opposite him.
A boy of about five or six years old peeked in first. He had black hair, a thin face, and bright eyes, with a composure that was unusual for a child his age.
He glanced inside, his gaze sweeping over the medicine cabinets and tables and chairs, then turned back to the outside and said, "Mom, this is it."
A woman followed her in. She was wearing a faded blue cloth shirt, her hair was tied up with an old handkerchief, her face was sallow, her eyes were sunken, and her cheekbones were high and prominent.
She walked with a slight stoop, stopping to catch her breath every few steps, her right hand pressed against her chest as if she were enduring some pain.
Yun Qinglin's gaze swept across her face and landed on the boy.
This seems to be... Huo Yuhao?
He tapped his finger lightly on the edge of the table, his expression remaining unchanged.
After so many years of experience, he has learned not to put unnecessary things on his face.
He first met the other person when Dai Yueheng invited him to the Duke's mansion before Dai Yueheng went to Shrek Academy. He made an excuse to take a look at the other person that time, but only from a distance, mainly because he was worried about being discovered by someone.
He turned his head to Zhizhi and said, "Let me take a look at this." Then he walked over to the woman and pulled up a chair.
"Sit down. Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?"
Huo Yun'er slowly sat down, her movements very careful, as if afraid of bumping into something.
Huo Yuhao stood next to her, his hand on her shoulder, not letting go.
"I've been coughing for almost a year." The woman's voice was soft and hoarse. "I'm okay during the day, but I cough as soon as I lie down at night. Sometimes I cough so much that I can't sleep all night. I have no appetite, I have no energy, and my legs feel weak when I walk."
Yun Qinglin sat down opposite her and pushed the pulse pillow over.
The woman placed her wrist on his wrist, and his hand rested on her pulse, his fingertips slightly cool.
Overwork led to illness.
It wasn't something that happened in a day or two; it took many years of hard work.
Insufficient nutrition and lack of rest gradually deplete the body, eventually leading to collapse.
Medication can alleviate the symptoms of this disease, but it cannot cure it completely unless one can change their lifestyle and not have to suffer so much.
Huo Yuhao stood beside him, his eyes fixed on every change in his expression.
He didn't speak, but his nervousness was palpable; his lips were pursed, and his hands unconsciously gripped the hem of his mother's clothes.
Yun Qinglin withdrew his hand and thought for a while.
Huo Yun'er looked at him, her lips moved slightly, as if she wanted to ask something but didn't.
Huo Yuhao spoke first: "Doctor, can my mother's illness be cured?"
"It can be cured," Yun Qinglin said, "but not by taking medicine."
Huo Yun'er's face darkened slightly.
She probably thought Yun Qinglin was going to say "this disease is incurable" or "it will cost a lot of money".
"Your illness is caused by overwork." Yun Qinglin looked at the woman, his tone not harsh, but his words were clear. "Your body is severely depleted, your qi and blood are deficient, and your spleen and lungs are damaged. Taking medicine will make you feel better, your cough will lessen, and you can eat, but the root cause is still there."
As long as you're still so tired, still can't sleep or eat well, and the symptoms return after a while, medication only treats the symptoms, not the root cause.
The woman was silent for a moment, then lowered her head and said in an even softer voice, "Dr. Yun, my family's circumstances are what they are. My husband passed away early, so I have to work. I can't avoid getting tired."
Yun Qinglin didn't respond; he knew there was no way to respond to such a question.
Saying "you should take a rest" is pointless; if she could rest, she would have done so already.
Huo Yuhao stood to the side, his lips pressed even tighter.
He roughly understood what Yun Qinglin meant: it wasn't that it couldn't be cured, but that even if it was, it would be useless, and the patient would still be the same when they returned.
His hand slid off his mother's shoulder, hanging at his side, clenched into a fist.
Yun Qinglin glanced at him, then looked at Huo Yun'er.
He picked up a pen, wrote a prescription on a piece of paper, and handed it to Zhizhi to get the medicine.
This is a seven-day supply of herbs including astragalus, angelica, atractylodes macrocephala, poria cocos, and licorice. They are all inexpensive but effective.
"Take these seven days' worth of medicine, once in the morning and once in the evening, boil three bowls of water down to one bowl." He pushed the prescription in front of the other person. "After taking it, your cough will be better, and you'll feel more energetic. But remember, this will only make you feel better, it won't cure you."
Huo Yun'er took the prescription, her fingers trembling slightly.
She took out a cloth bag from her bosom, opened it layer by layer, and inside were several copper coins and one silver coin. She counted them, put the silver coin and the few copper coins on the table, looked at the remaining copper coins, hesitated for a moment, and then added two more.
Yun Qinglin glanced at the money on the table but didn't take it. He pushed the silver coins back and only took the few copper coins. "That's enough."
Huo Yun'er was stunned for a moment, then looked up at him.
She seemed a little flustered; although she looked young, she already had quite a few gray hairs on her head.
Huo Yuhao stood beside her, his eyes also red, but he didn't cry. He simply put his hand back on his mother's shoulder and gently pressed it.
Yun Qinglin stood up, grabbed a few herbs from the medicine cabinet, wrapped them in paper, and tied them with a thin string.
He placed the medicine packet in front of the woman and said, "Starting tomorrow, bring your mother to Qinglintang every night. I will give her a few acupuncture needles on her back and then soak her feet in the medicinal soup. This will be done for seven days, free of charge."
Huo Yuhao looked up at him, opened his mouth, and said in a still childish voice, "Thank you, doctor."
Yun Qinglin shook his head and said nothing.
Huo Yun'er stood up, held the medicine packet in her arms, and bowed to Yun Qinglin.
Huo Yuhao helped her, and the two slowly walked out of Qinglin Hall.
The curtain fell down, swayed a few times, and then stopped moving.
Yun Qinglin stood at the window, watching them walk away.
From within the sea of consciousness, Electrolux's voice rang out, tinged with a lazy tone: "That child, is he the Chosen One you spoke of?"
"Um."
"He doesn't look anything special," Electrox said. "Just an ordinary kid, a bit thin, but his eyes are bright enough. His mother's health is too poor; a few doses of medicine won't make her any better."
"I know," Yun Qinglin replied. "I did my best to help him, as I owe him something. After that, it's up to them to decide what to do next."
He and Huo Yuhao were just strangers. His help was only based on a favor he owed to Electrolux. He wouldn't help the Duchess if she found out Huo Yun'er was better and did anything else; it was ultimately a family matter.
Because if Huo Yun'er wanted to, she could leave the Duke's mansion, but she still stubbornly clung to that small plot of land. Yun Qinglin couldn't save her like that. He couldn't very well go and tell the Duchess that he would protect these two people, could he?
Zhizhi was a little puzzled. Why was Brother Qinglin so concerned about those two patients?
However, she didn't ask. Everyone in Qinglin Hall was a commoner helped by Yun Qinglin and Dan Chen. There was no hierarchy here because everyone came from the bottom. Even those without any soul power were not discriminated against.
She was lucky to come to Qinglin Hall, and I believe Afu and the others felt the same way.
