Peninsula: I run a bed and breakfast on Jeju Island
Chapter 10 Is this your girlfriend?
Li Ran was also somewhat surprised to hear the voice.
Who came looking for him?
He doesn't know many people on Jeju Island at all!
He and Choi Jin-ri exchanged a glance, both looking somewhat bewildered.
She took a black mask out of her pocket and put it on skillfully.
"I'm here! Who are you looking for?" Li Ran also stood up and asked towards the door.
"I was Guifen Oni's neighbor before."
"I moved abroad with my son a few years ago. I didn't have time to come back for several years. This year I finally had time, but I never expected that we would be separated by death."
An aunt with fluffy curly hair was standing outside the door holding a jar.
"After I came back, I found out about you and thought I'd come and see you."
"This is homemade kimchi, nothing expensive, I hope you won't mind. This is the recipe that Guifen unnie taught me before." She handed the kimchi jar to Li Ran.
"Uh..." He dazedly took the kimchi.
Li Ran scratched his eyebrows, unsure of how to address her.
She and her great-aunt were of the same generation and she called her "Grandma".
But he's clearly not that old.
Call me Auntie? It feels like I'm a generation younger than my great-aunt.
Seemingly sensing his hesitation, the aunt said, "Just call me 'Aunt Jin'."
"Hello, Aunt Jin." He nodded.
"He's so handsome! He looks just like your great-aunt." The aunt exclaimed, gazing at Li Ran's face.
Her gaze swept over Choi Jin-ri before returning to Lee Ran.
"Is this your girlfriend?"
"No..." He was so anxious that he didn't care about honorifics and hurriedly shook his head.
Choi Jin-ri was also visibly taken aback, touching her mask and pursing her lips.
"Uh, she's a friend of mine from China. She doesn't understand Korean," Li Ran glanced at her and made up an excuse.
"We're just ordinary friends. She came to Jeju Island for tourism and stopped by to see me."
"Hee-ho!" Choi Jin-ri waved her hand in response.
Actually, she's safer when she doesn't speak.
However, since she had already spoken up, Li Ran could only try to salvage the situation.
He gave an awkward laugh. "She's saying hello to you."
"Ah, oh, oh!"
Aunt Jin's gaze shifted between the two of them. "So, are you two really just ordinary friends?"
"I've been through this before, you can't hide it from me. Tell me, do you like her?"
Upon hearing Li Ran say that Choi Jin-ri couldn't understand Korean, Aunt Kim relaxed, moved closer, and looked at him with a smile.
Li Ran had a bit of a headache.
Although he just told Aunt Kim that Choi Jin-ri doesn't speak Korean, that doesn't mean she really doesn't!
They are genuine people from the Korean Peninsula!
Choi Jin-ri's gaze also shifted over at this moment, with a hint of mockery, as if she also wanted to hear how Li Ran was prepared to answer.
He and Choi Jin-ri have only known each other for a few days, what's there to talk about liking or disliking?
Li Ranfa noticed that people from all over the world tend to play matchmaker as they get older.
"Auntie, would you like to come in and sit for a while?" He decisively changed the subject.
"No need, no need," Aunt Jin waved her hand repeatedly.
"I just came here to take a look. I don't have any other plans."
She looked around and then said, "Seeing how well you've taken care of Guifen's guesthouse, she'll definitely be very pleased."
"I'm leaving. My son is still waiting for me!"
Without waiting for Li Ran's reaction, he turned and left.
They came and went in a flash. It felt like a fixed NPC who finished the main quest and then left.
Li Ran was left awkwardly standing there, holding the jar of kimchi.
He coughed twice and gave Choi Jin-ri a somewhat embarrassed smile.
"I didn't expect this to happen so suddenly."
"I was afraid of revealing your identity, so I said you were a friend of mine from China."
"Aren't we friends?" She tilted her head, took off her mask, and smiled slightly.
"Uh, really?"
Seeing Choi Jin-ri's eyes gradually narrow, Lee Ran nodded readily, "Definitely! We're kindred spirits, true soulmates!"
Choi Jin-ri pouted. "You're exaggerating a bit! Looks like you'll never be a good actress."
Although she expressed some dissatisfaction, her mood was noticeably lighter.
Li Ran weighed the kimchi jar in her hand. "Then let's not just stand here. I'll put the kimchi in the kitchen first. My arm is getting sore from holding it up."
"After you're done releasing him, can you come back and teach me how to take care of that 'Fellow Busan resident'?"
"It's not like I taught you for nothing. I'll teach you Korean later too," Choi Jin-ri added.
He shrugged. "I didn't say I wouldn't teach!"
"Also, I'm quite confident in my Korean. But if you're willing to teach me, I certainly won't object."
Listening to his accented Korean, Choi Jin-ri suppressed a laugh, then nodded, "I think so too."
Choi Jin-ri stood there waiting for Lee Ran to put the kimchi away.
Just then, Xiao Hei appeared out of some corner, covered in mud.
It wagged its tail happily and circled around her.
"What's wrong, Xiao Hei?" Choi Jin-ri squatted down and asked softly.
Xiao Hei gently rubbed its head against her palm.
Choi Jin-ri smiled slightly and stroked the dog's fur.
Little Black also lay down, exposing its belly.
She brushed the fur off the little black cat's back and pulled out quite a few things from it.
Greenish-blue cockleburs, tiny leaves, and small clumps of mud...
I don't know how it managed to hide so many things in its fur.
"You've been hiding in the bushes! You need to take a bath!" Choi Jin-ri gently stroked its chin with her right hand.
Upon hearing the word "bath," Xiao Hei, who had been enjoying himself with his eyes closed, immediately stood up.
Before she could react, it slipped away again.
"No, are you that afraid of taking a bath?" Choi Jin-ri was both amused and exasperated as she watched the little black dog running around with its butt wiggling.
"What's wrong?"
At this moment, Li Ran also put the kimchi away and came back.
"I just petted Xiao Hei and found that it probably went into the bushes, as it was covered in burrs and mud. As soon as I said the word 'bath,' it immediately ran away," she explained.
"I see!" He glanced in the direction of Xiao Hei.
"That lazybones," he chuckled and cursed.
"Never mind, let's talk about taking a shower later."
Li Ran took two steps towards the cherry tomato seedlings, then squatted down. "Didn't you say you wanted to learn how to take care of your 'Busan natives'?"
Choi Jin-ri moved closer and squatted down as well.
She pointed to the marks she had left from loosening the soil. "So tell me, how did I handle it?"
"Not very good." Li Ran shook her head.
"You loosened the soil in the wrong direction just now. You should usually do it along the direction of the roots, otherwise you might damage the lateral roots."
He picked up the small shovel and demonstrated.
"Here, try again." He handed the shovel to Choi Jin-ri.
She imitated Li Ran's movements and shoveled a few times.
"Hmm, that's about right. As long as it's roughly correct." He nodded.
Choi Jin-ri dusted off her hands and stood up.
She had barely stood up when she felt dizzy and saw stars.
"What's wrong? Are you experiencing low blood sugar?" Li Ran asked with concern.
"Maybe a little." She pursed her lips and looked into the distance, trying to relax her eyes.
"Is that a bird's nest?" she suddenly asked.
Li Ran followed her gaze.
"That's true." He nodded.
